school help please....

my little family are moving to melbourne soon.. we are not fimiliar with melbourne at all... but we are wanting some good advice on schools. my daughter is 8 and is in a very good school now with high education standards.. and would love to find the same here.. which is better private or state?.. with the cost of a private school is there government assistance to help with these costs?? are they all so very expensive?.. we are living in the tarneit, werribee, area.. would love some sound advice... i also have a 3 year old daughter and wanting to look for a nice little pre-school also within the area..
