Reviews of Wilson Street, Chatswood

"Convenient, safe and friendly - if you don't mind the noise"

I've lived on Wilson St for almost 3 years now, and it has become my favourite home. My reasons for choosing to live here were really for the convenience - a 5 minute walk down Pacific Highway and Railway Street for the train station, or a 5 minute walk down Anderson Street to get to Westfield and an array of shops and restaurants on Victoria Avenue - what more could I ask for?

People often ask me whether noise levels are high where I live, as Wilson Street is directly sandwiched between the North Shore train line and Pacific Highway. When I am out on the street I can certainly hear everything, but inside my low-rise apartment it is quite calm and peaceful. The only disturbances are occasional fire trucks and ambulances sounding their sirens in the middle of the night. After the first few days of living here, I quickly adjusted to the sound of traffic during the night and it hasn't bothered me since.

Chatswood in general is a great suburb. It is the main hub of the North Shore line - huge shopping centres, a resourceful library, wide variety of places to eat (anything from the sushi train at Makoto to the trendy Andronicus cafe), as well as essential services such as the police station, post office and RTA, all conveniently located within walking distance of each other. In addition there are two large cinemas (both Hoyts), the Willoughby Town Hall hosting a variety of events, and the Thursday Night Markets every week along Victoria Avenue.

The walk home from the train station late at night, and into the early hours of the morning, are relatively safe. Walking past drinkers at the Chelsea Bar can be daunting, but I am quickly relieved by the noise of the traffic on Pacific Highway, as well as the large, high-security apartments Altura and Epica on Railway Street. It is comforting to know that in Chatswood, I am surrounded by people, so it is safe to walk home at night!

Wilson Street is very small, extending from the white railway bridge, past a low-rise apartment building and an office building on the other side, before it reaches Pacific Highway. There is a Shell Petrol Station just around the corner where I can always go for a bottle of milk or other necessities, if I can't be bothered to walk down to the supermarket.

It's all a matter of convenience!

If you were driving, how long would it take to get into the CBD?

thebookthief

It depends on the traffic because it can get pretty bad on Pacific Highway in peak hours, but I'd say generally around 20 minutes
