Yeppoon, QLD 4703

Yeppoon has a beautiful view from selected high places & beaches. Most of the year the tempreture is pretty average. Not too cold, not too hot except for the occasional heat wave, but still cooler then nearby Rockhampton. Lived here almost all my life, it has changed over the last 10 years. It has grown in population, crime has picked up a little but no match for City crime. The people do keep a close eye on other people's businesses and should I say personal business as well. Everybody want's to know everything or already does know everything. I notice a story told in this town can be a hell of an adventure, this is sarcasim for some things are overeggerated & full of sh*t. I guess that is everwhere. Yeppoon is fairly quiet, the local pubs have the odd brawl as most pubs do. Though not much employment apart from aged care & disability services. Hospitality is popular for the younger generation, if some can actually take the time to learn, listen & concentrate on doing the job, most I come across are lazy or relaxed lol. Generally good people though. There are a lot of water activities for fishing, boating, swimming, snorkling at the islands, ect. Yeppoon has markets on the weekends, with Cooberrie Park, Five Rocks, Cooraman Creek, The Caves near Rocky, Double Heads Track Mountain walk, Roslyn Bay boat Harbour, Pineapple Festival. Pretty good variety of shops, though not many smiling workers for some reason I notice. Some retail workers just don't seem to be happy, some are. It is easier to get employment if you know someone as with most places. At the moment if you are looking for a rental, maybe try 12 mths in advance, the rentals are difficult enough for us locals to stay, let alone new adventurers. Please come but it may take a long time for you to rent a place, it can be expensive, $500+ a week recently for some rentals. Yeppoon is growing with the new lagoon which is a lot nicer looking at night, has been known to have a couple of people looking/taking photo's of kids that shouldn't be taking photo's or looking at kids, but still safe that I am aware off. Yeppoon is a great spot to settle down, not much for teenagers to do, apart from hang out at the skate parks or petty crime. Some are using drugs, actually a lot of drugs in Yeppoon. Once again it's no different anywhere else I don't think. There are some really rude kids/teenagers who don't care, they will flip the bird as they say as you drive by them. Some will swear at you for nothing but I think it's boredom & trying to get a reaction from their proud mates. Attention seeking. Overall Yeppoon is a safe family place to live & depending what sort of lifestyle you are looking for will depend on if you would be happy in this little relaxed beachside town. It is a beautiful place if you do you, stay out of other people's business, & don't tell anyone about your business unless you want the town to know. Cheers.

love yeppoon. there's everything here, two shopping centres, Bunnings, drs, many beaches, cafes, restaurants, play grounds, keppel island (paradise btw) , beautiful marina, friendly people, good schools, beautiful views and way less traffic than where we moved from. overall just a quality lifestyle away from the crowds. kids love it here and our quality of life is so much better here. 10 stars

I've lived in several places on the eastern seaboard and Yeppoon is by far the worst. It's amazing how people could turn such a spectacular natural location into such a horrible place to live. Crime is rampant in Yeppoon itself and even going for a walk you come across it: graffiti everywhere, kids rifling through the goods left by charity bins and throwing it all over the place and anything that is not bolted down being pinched. There is more rubbish in the parks than in the bins themselves. I thought I was being precious until locals started telling me to ensure I had everything under lock and key if I didn't want it stolen and a newspaper report with some local businesses saying that crime has gotten out of control over the past six months. My partner does not feel safe to leave the house after dark. There are plenty of fights and foul language and there seems to be more kid playing truant from the high school than actually attending classes. In outlying suburbs it may be better but Yeppoon itself is terrible.

There is very little employment in Yeppoon necessitating a 40-minute drive into Rockhampton: it's a clear run until you reach Rockhampton but Rocky itself has terrible traffic for a town of its size. If you're moving away from a metropolitan area congratulations, unless you're lucky enough to find work on the coast you'll feel like you're back in one with the commute.

House prices are reasonable vis-a-vis other cities but otherwise the cost of living is very high: fuel, fruit and veg, mechanics (I was amazed at the price some quoted for a simple car service) etc.. Yeppoon seems conflicted over whether it wants to be a sleepy coastal town or the next tourist Mecca and the layout of the city reflects that. There are new developments springing up everywhere.

The islands off the coast are indeed beautiful: if you're a boatie or from the big city you may well love Yeppoon but I'm less than impressed. The local council concentrates on the region's foreshore and one or two streets back from the foreshore - they've recently built what is actually a quite nice lagoon - and if you visit it's easy to see how you could be lured to move here.

Love the lifestyle feel so relaxed and at home great place to raise kids

After living in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast, my what a breath of fresh air. Everyone is friendly and no hostility or whining people like the southeast corner - I love it. Fantastic for people who don't need theme parks and fancy restaurants, not so good for people dependent on that 'entertain me' culture. Heaps of local produce, great fishing, quiet streets at night. Tons of beautiful beaches - Lammermoor, Cooee Bay, Emu Park, Keppel Sands the list is endless, and country drives through beautiful bushland - Cawarral, Mt Chalmers, Cooberie. And Stoney Creek and Byfield State Forest - absolute heaven. The Yeppoon lifestyle is great for anyone who wants a deeper life experience, and it has everything you need right here. Rocky is only 25 minutes away. I commute by car every day and even with the distance, it takes half the time it used to take me getting from Holland Park to Brisbane City every morning and the drive through such beautiful natural surroundings is MUCH more enjoyable :)

Being originally from Noosa, then living out west for a few yrs my family was looking for a change.
We only bought a house in Yeppoon as it was cheap, and really it still is a cheap place to by.
We dont have freinds or family here, and we thought what a great place Yeppoon can be for a new start.
I have 2 teenage boys who go to the local high school, they think its pretty good,
my daughter who is 8 loves her school, but finds that she is always being bullied.
The problem that my wife and i have is that the night life, is just not what coastal life should be.
Its something that you would expect from a country narrow minded night life, there are always fights amonst the locals 'lots of fights'
Some of the beaches along the coast here are, well it makes me sick, the amount of glass and rubbish. The local council tells me that they wont put bins along the coast beaches, because they get stolen, WELL CHAIN THEM DOWN, THEY DO EVERY WHERE ELSE IN AUSTRALIA.
Kemp beach for example, its a beautiful beach, WERE ARE THE BINS THERE IS NONE, it makes me wonder how many times in the past that a person has cut themselves and no one knows about it. And they were thinking of investing in Yeppoon and thought stuff this place.
The local skate park is like the local dump, my son tell me that 1 day a counciler came to the skate park to ask the kids how the council could make it cleaner.
The kids said put in more bins, so the next day a council worker put stickers saying put the ribbish in the bin. Thats dodgy.
Sunday afternoons there is now place to go, other than the Strand if you like live music, and there is not enough time in a day for me to start with that place. EYE SORE.
There needs to be a local backpacker resort as there is none, or cheap accomodation.
Yeppoon can be a awesome place to live, yes it is quiet the locals are friendly during the day, and at night, well just dont look at them.
I have no intensions of selling because i can see that it can be a great place to live, it just needs to be updated, it will never be like the coasts down south as there is no real surf, but the islands are beautiful.

We have just moved here from overseas and love it. It is a great place for kids as there is plenty of things to do with them in the Yeppoon area. The local people are super friendly so that makes everything so easy from visiting the shops to the schools and doctors. It is a very laid back lifestyle place and we feel like we are on a permanent holiday. Life is what you make of it and it is very, very easy living here. There are good farmers markets on every weekend and with great fishing right on the doorstep, it is a cheap place to feed a family. There are lots of cool little boutique style shops and two malls if you need some retail therapy. Everything we need is right here and we rarely need to go into Rockhampton for anything.

Yeppoon is a small town situated on the coast about half an hour from the super exciting,cowboy central Rockhampton.It's primarily thrives on catering for retirees.There is very little for younger generations to do.No movies,music,very limited choice of modern food.Not much shopping.The main street and gardens looks disgusting.The surf club doesn't function.The sailing club is where all the elderly pour all their money into the pokies,not much else happens there except for the disgusting food.Don't go to the pubs,they are all run down,disgusting and full of addicts.One has just had glass banned from the entire premises.So unless you like beer in a plastic cup...
The beaches are ok.Nothing special.The best parts of the area are the untouched islands off the coast.If you have a boat.Great keppel has some nice beaches,don't bother with staying there.The resort has been shutdown.It was a disgusting cesspool of a place.I can't believe i worked there.Though not for long.Honestly if you wern't ripped off,didn't catch a disease in the pool or get the runs from the food you were a lucky one.Anway this isn't a review of their malpractices.There are good,honest people here.Most of them struggling to survive in an area where tourism has failed.Most afternoons the streets are a ghosttown.If you are over 65 in can see how this place may appeal.You have a bowls club,sailing club with buffet and pokies.The nursing home overlooks the water,though not for much longer.why do the elderly need to take up valuable beachfront land says the council.Lastly you can play golf.So to sum it up.If you are a kid,you will probably end up doing what all the other kids do in yeppoon.Growing and smoking marijuana.Getting drunk.Street racing.Lots of fornication and pregnant at 15 is the in thing here.Go the baby bonus.If you are late twenties to mid forties you might as well book a room at the nursing home early.It's the busiest your social life will get.If you are over that age you probably think you have already passed on and are in heaven!

Yeppoon is a wonderful place to raise young children with many beaches and parks. Good selection of schools. Wouldn't reccommend teenagers as there is little to do for them. Few job opportunities especially now Great Keppel Resort has closed and likihood of reopening at least 5+ years away. It is fairly remote with closest town Rockhampton 40km away. However, it is ideal for retiree's who wish peace and quiet with some facilities. There are plenty of Doctors and a small Hospital if you can call it that - more a outpatient clinic with most patients transferred to Rockhampton Base Hospital. It is definitely a lifestyle location that we choose over 10 years, so if you are into fishing and boating - friendly locals, not too isolated, a great climate (although summers can be hot) away from the maddening crowds then this is the place.

Yeppoon has a pleasant climate during the winter but is scorchingly hot in the summer. It has a small hospital but no specialists. There are few employment opportunities so if you need to be working then you will have to travel 40 minutes to Rockhampton each day. As the mining boom retracts, job opportunities are rapidly decreasing. There are many large sharks in the ocean.

Yeppoon is located 40km east of Rockhampton on the Central Queensland Coast. Being a seaside resort, Yeppoon offers great long stretching beaches and is close to Great Keppel Island not far off shore. There is a plentiful supply of shops as well as a good choice of accommodation facilities to suit all tastes and budgets. Go swimming, snorkeling and diving or take a horse ride. Visit the Capricorn Caves and the Capricornia Cays national park. Being a coastal area Yeppoon's home prices are forever increasing but you can still pick up a good bargain if you want to live in this paradise.
