Reviews of Yuile Street, Ashburton

"Yuile Street - What can I say?"

We brought into Yuile Street about 14 years ago after having lived in Glen Iris Rd for the previous ten years. When we first moved into this area we were attracted to it for it's proximity to Camberwell and Burke Rd as well as Chadstone. Since then however we have found many other reasons to be here that are even more important.

Ashburton shopping centre is one of the best strip shops in Melbourne. People come from more upmarket suburbs such as Armadale and Malvern to do their weekend shopping - great butchers, green grocers and all the other types of shops that you need and only two blocks or a 5 minute walk away.

The access to the Monash Freeway means that off peak you can be in the city in 15 minutes or on the way down to the Mornington Peninsula just as quickly. If you don't wish to drive we are well served by public transport with Ashburton Railway Station at the end of the street and buses running along High Street.

Houses on the northern side of Yuile St back onto the Hill & Dale Park - this is excellent for kids to play in, is a leash free area to run the dog and has the bicycle track that will take you all the way into the city.

Recent sales in Yuile St and the construction of substantial new homes indicate the value people see in this area as an alternative to Glen Iris whose border is only 100m from where we live - having said this a derelict home around the corner sold for $900000 recently, and it's going to be knocked down - so it is less affordable than when we first bought into the area.

Traffic can be a problem in the afternoon when the rat runners take this street from Summerhill Rd through to Warrigul Rd, attempting to avoid the traffic snarl that can occur in High St itself.

Overall we are very pleased with what the street has to offer, both in the street directly and in the immediate vicinity, for people of all ages.
