Reviews of Bowen, QLD

"Bowen- NQ"

Bowen is a lovely, walm climated place set in the hot whitsundays. Bowen has many good tourist destinations such as: The Big Mangoe, The Beaches, Look Outs and Its People. Bowen is home to many lovely people and cheerful familys. It is a lovely small town for the kids to grow up in. You can feel safe letting your children / child running around outside or going to the beach with friends. There are many different places to live in Bowen: Queens Beach, Merinda, Rose Bay, Horseshoe Bay, Delta or Bowen Central. There are 4 primary schools in Bowen and 1 high school: Queens Beach State School, Merinda State school, St Marys Catholic School, Bowen State School and Bowen State High School. There are many sporting clubs and childcare centers. The main shoping centre there is the Woolworth Complex with consists of Target, Jewerls, Cafe, Rockmans, Sports Power, Newsagency and Hair Dressers. The safest spot to live in in Bowen would be Queens Beach because there is mainly families living there and there are plice watch houses and heaps of nice, friendly, social people live there. There are parks, skate bowls and convienence stores a school and nice residential areas for families. I would reccomend Bowen. Bowen is a tad boring on school holidays but that ca be changed because a water park is coming to Bowen, Macdonals is there, new esplanade is good for a quiet walk, bush walks and maany different swimming holes. And Airlie Beach is just a half an hour drive from Bowen!
I have lived in bowen for 14 years and i still am i have 3 children and they absolutley love it ! There are atleast 2 familys with kids in each street. I reccomend do not move to Merinda there are no shops and a train tracks run through the middle of it at it is ferally. About 30 kids go to Merinda State School and it is a main road through Merinda and It is a 15-20 minute drive into town to collect groceries.

So Bowen is a safe, friendly neighbourhood to live in

Looking for a home in Bowen?

"Capital Growth and great rental returns!"

Bowen is a beautiful coastal town in the Whitsundays. It is a 50 minute drive from Airlie Beach and Proserpine Airport. Bowen has 9 beautiful beaches and it doesn't matter where the wind is blowing from, there is always a beach that is protected from the wind. As you wade into the beautiful blue water you can snorkel around the fringing reef with beautiful coral and tropical fish. The beaches are ideal for swimming, families but there is no surf.

I have been buying in Bowen for 6 years. I have purchased in the vicinity of 40 properties for myself, family and clients. The rental returns are generally around 5% however the new type of townhouses are achieving 6% - 6.5%. Most properties we bought in the first 4 years have doubled in value and the newer ones have achieved approx 20% growth.

It has been forcasted that the population will increase from approx 8000 people to 30,000 people in the next 10 years. The QLD government are committed to expanding the Abboott Point port to include 4 extra coal crushing and loading docks, they are expanidng the port to add 8 extra docks for general cargo and the Abbott Point area has been designated to expand into a commercial and industrial area. They are bringing water in from the Burdekin and have nearly completed the extra electricty expansion for the industrial area. There is also a 429km rail line being constructed grom the Gooniyalla Basin to Abbott Point. BHP, Hancock Coal and Clive Palmer are building extra crushing and loading facilities at Abbottos Point. There is also a 500 berth marina approved with apartments, townhouses, offices & shops. They are just waiting for the building to commence.

Hi Karin1, I would be really interested if you could give an updated opinion of Bowen, 5yrs on from your original post. I have just started looking at Bowen as a possible IP/future retirement location and it would be fantastic to hear any insights you have. :)

Don't believe the real estate agent like BS. Bowen is a beautiful place to live everything is close, weather is fantastic, beaches are beautiful and plentyful, and no stress. But, nothing is ever going to happen here. When I was 18 we were waiting for Comalco to come - I'm 51 now and nothing has happened. Do your research, heaps of vacant rentals, there will be about 300 when the fruit season ends. They pack about 10 people into a 3 or 4 bedroom house and it gets wrecked. Investment properties purchased for $450,000 now on the market for $375,000. A lot of people getting their fingers burnt. I love the place but it's the last place on earth I would be investing in.

"Lovely town, nice seafood, beaches, tropical feeling, friendly people"

Close to all - Proserpine, Airlie, beaches, fishing. It has all the facilities we need when we travel there for business. Internet, Good accommodation options, car hire, meals, seafood, movies, bbqs, swimming areas, good supermarkets.
We love going to the beaches, cafe on top of the hill/ look out, good meals at the Sailing club, friendly decent people. The town has a very positive vibe and the people are very welcoming.

"Bowen - Tropical Qld Getaway"

Situated at the northern end of Whitsundays is Bowen. This is a tropical climate area where the winters are wonderful, unlike the cold of the south, summers are balmy with usually good rainfalls. At Bowen you can visit the Big Mango, the Summergarden Theatre or just relax laze on the beautiful beaches. Excitement plus at the rodeo and fishing comps. There all manner of water sports and plenty of bushwalking and bird watching opportunities. There is something for everyone at Bowen. There is plenty of shopping facilities and property prices are quite affordable considering the location. For the visitor choose from backpackers, hotels, resorts and farm stays accommodation is your choice.
