How do I get to the MCG on public transport from Box Hill?

You can take a tram ride into the city form Box Hill straight up Whitehorse Road. The best option is the train into the city and get off at Richmond station. The ,line that you can take is the Belgrave line or Lilydale line.

Train is the best bet.
Lilydale/Belgrave line from Box Hill to Flinders Street Station.
But from Flinders Street Station, you'll need to either walk past Federation Square, past Birrarung Mar and over the bridge to the MCG, or take the tram east along Flinders Street (Tram 75 goes all the way; others you'll need to change), to Jolimont (you'll see the Hilton Hotel on the left) - the MCG parklands are opposite.

Take a city bound train to Richmond and follow the crowd. Very easy and direct.

Wattle Park 70 tram takes you all the way to the MCG not dealing with bogans on the trains.
