"Resident in a CBD Apartment for 7 years now..."

I'm a Sydney born, Newcastle youthed, 53 year old engineer with 2nd time around family. My day job has taken me all over Australia and I've visited/worked most parts of the world including having "homes" in South Africa, Canada, and Brazil. Having experienced a lot of locations I ended up in Brisbane as my first choice for a placed to call home for family. I think its a great place - though I'm a little unusual in Oz for having chosen an apartment over a house. I chose the CBD apartment to avoid the traffic I experienced when in living in the inner west. Its a beautiful climate 90% of the year. There's no shortage of things to do within easy driving distance (Southbank to Gold & Sunshine coasts). For mine the only drawback is the traffic (but not as bad as Sydney). Everything else is terrific. I like it so much I even made some ground level toilet & water stops time-lapse videos of my favorite inner city walks which are part of the large public "bikeway" network. You can see them, and get a taste of what the inner city is like on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi8Gd23AnHlUNiM5fWOw3M_aHtfT-GWsG

"Twentieth Century City with a Prehistoric Climate"

I lived in Brisbane for most of my life but I permanently relocated to a cooler climate because of the oppressive heat and humidity. Brisbane used to get by with two seasons, Summer and Winter, now it only enjoys one season - and I think we all know which one that is! Unfortunately, in recent decades Brisbane has become way overrated and way, way overpriced! Think carefully about the climate and make sure you earn enough money before you pack your bags and make the big move to Brisbane.

"Not so affordable anymore"

Hello everyone :)

I would like to start of saying that I think Brisbane in general has loads of facilities and things to do on weekends whether it be going out for a nice dinner or hanging out in South Bank.

Nightlife being a great aspect with so much to see and do, I found that growing up around Brisbane was a safe nice place to live.

"Village on City Fringe"

Live in a house in the city post code? No apartments? Gorgeous Petrie Tce is a tiny heritage precinct shouldering Brisbane's CBD just before Paddington. One of Brisbane's oldest suburbs, it's long and colourful history is reflected in its eclectic mix of architecture: Queensland workers cottages, mansions, terraces and contemporary design decorate its hilly laneways. Perhaps because it's name is also a street, Petrie Terrace is a bit of a secret, like its simple timber and tin cottages which turn out to be three storeys of luxury. You can walk to the City centre through the Roma St Parklands; cinemas, full-size Coles, specialty shops, cafes and restaurants at the historic Barracks, nightlife on Caxton St or a slightly longer 15 min stroll to GOMA and the Cultural Cente at Southbank. Roma St Station and City and Normanby Busways offer all the public transport you need to go without a car. If you're a family, state of the art Central City Library, Ithaca Pool and Skate Park, Petrie Terrace State School and Brisbane Grammar Schools are a short walk. Quick access to Brisbane's Bikeways network and sprawling Roma St Parklands offer recreation or 5 mins to highway heading to the Gold Coast, 2 mins to Inner City Bypass to the Sunshine Coast. Students can walk, bike or ride public transport to QUTs Kelvin Grove or City campuses. Royal Brisbane Hospitals are 5 min door to door via the Normanby Busway. If you love city life but want to tend a little garden, raise children, keep a pet or just enjoy gorgeous views from your verandah rather than an apartment window, check out Brisbane's best kept secret.
Pros
  • Close to everything
  • No need for car
  • Character architecture, beautiful hilly laneways

"A great locality in the 4000 postcode"

We are a wonderful undiscovered pocket with the convenience of a unit, but cheaper and with our own block. 190sqm is small but depending on where you live this does not feel small. You can paint the house the colour you want and have a garden, a pool, and a dog and walk to everything if required. A tennis court however woudl be larger than most house blocks.

Our family of four (2 young kids) love it and for us work is a 15minute walk away. There are a number of families, singles couples, owners and renters and such a good mix of people.

Unlike Spring Hill most of the suburb is preserved as individual houses with few units.

If we were to move we would move across the road.

And as much as we can not see the city, we live in the city with a 4000 postcode.

"There are worse places to live"

I actually lived in a free standing house in Brisbane - its not a fairytale, its true. Petrie Terrace is the best part of Brisbane. It's close enough to walk to the CBD, has restaurants and cafes. A new supermarket and cinemas.
Sure there are apartments in the city, but if thats not your thing, you can still found a house. I'm not sure if Sydney and Melbourne have free standing residential homes in the city. But Brisbane does.

Brisbane is very, very slowly waking up from a long, almost coma-like sleep. You can now find a decent coffee, walk around without the need for a car and they've even discovered bridges and tunnels to assist the capital of Australia's sunniest state to cope with the demands of 'growing up'. Often people think and refer to Brisbane as a big country town. But I don't buy into that. Its a city, with the traffic, noise, pollution and crime that comes with being a city.

If apartment living is your thing - then make Brisbane your home. You won't regret living in the river city.

"All round Brisbane is my favourite!"

Ok this is only my own personal opinion although i tend to believe if you want bang for buck you head to Brisbane! It just has everything! Not to mention entertainment Parklife festival and Brisbanes famous river fire.

SO many places to go for night life, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Brisbane City, Southbank or a big night out at the casino!

Prices for everything in Brisbane all seem lower than elsewhere on the East Coast. Come move here today and see what Brisbane can offer you.

"Sunny Brisbane - beautiful one day, perfect the next"

Famous for its perfect year-round climate, Brisbane is a very popular residential destination. It is the capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest city (with a population of around 2 million).

It is a picturesque city, flanking the Brisbane river offer modern high rises as well as a number of old residential buildings. There are some lovely parklands and lots of outdoor spaces. Apartment style living is popular in and around the city, and the sprawling suburbs most commonly offer detached houses.

Brisbane offers a cosmopolitan lifestyle, a thriving economy and lots of sun. Working can be a challenge - tearing yourself away from the glorious weather outside can be hard. There are a number of universities and tertiary education opportunities here, so it is a great place to study.

"Brisbane - Great climate, great city, great fun"

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and being a major city there is no end of things to see and do in Queensland's capital. Wander the city and visit the Museum, Art Galleries, enjoy the sights and sounds of South Bank. Spend the day at Lone Pine Koala Park or the Botanic Gardens. There are also many day trips to surrounding areas and attractions. As with any large city accommodation is your choice with Hotels, motels, backpackers and 5 star resorts. There are large shopping centres and around the CBD with malls and specialty shops in main streets. As with any large city, apartments make up most of the inner city living and priced above what you would expect in some of the outer suburbs.

"A city with so much to offer. A mix of old and new, pity the river is so dirty looking."

This is a city that has a holiday atmosphere. It is like an overgrown resort town. Being in the tropics, dress is a fairly casual and the design and restructure of the city centre focuses on the relaxed lifestyle. It should be called the city of outdoor 'cafés'. Just about every suburb has a range of cafés with outdoor eating. Brisbane locals just love to sit outside to dine.

It used to be a city of hats and gloves before it developed into the more relaxed lifestyle of today. It was a city where all the rural property owners arrived with all their refinery and treated it as 'the big trip of the year', but with modern transport all that has changed.

The city itself is some 25km up river and nestled both sides of it. There is a man made lagoon and beach on the southern side which is ever so popular with the locals and tourists alike.

Because the weather in Queensland is so accommodating, there is almost any outdoor sport you can think of available to do somewhere in or around Brisbane. There is something to do for all age groups.

Brisbane has in latter years, been attracting 'the younger professional set' as they have discovered that the lifestyle that Brisbane offers is better than most other capital cities in Australia.

Many Brisbane residents drive north to the Sunshine Coast, or south to the Gold Coast for their weekend leisure time.
