"Honestly, dont recommend for families"

To many outsiders Colyton looks like a lovely family suburb but that is so untrue. There are too many renters of low socioeconomic/migrant background around and many of them are so rude. As the parents often out for work all day and do not spend money on proper childcare, some of their kids are completely out of control: my teenage kid was bullied by a group of them on a number of occasions and refused to get out of the house. Also, it’s common to see a group of dangerously looking people hanging around.

While we only lived here for a few years (moved to another suburb a month ago, north west of St Mary’s, which by the way is much better) I honestly don’t recommend living here especially if you have kids. The suburb is just too close of Mt Druitt and St Mary’s and so the bad people do hang around the area.

Is the entire suburb unlivable? I can see you mentioned St Mary's as well. Please could you share what areas of St Mary's is good. Thanks

"Decent place in Sydney's far west (beyond Cumberland and inner west) but aircraft noise could become an issue"

Colyton is a primarily residential area, with very few major distributors running through. It is idyllic for family living, being very family oriented with many centres in neighbouring suburbs being rich with amenities. The atmosphere is rather tranquil compared to the near hotspots of Blacktown, Penrith and Parramatta, so definitely somewhere to consider if you don't mind the aircraft noise that may be induced as a consequence of development of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.

"Great place for young families"

I grew up in Colyton from the age of 9 and lived there till I was 26. My elderly parents still reside there and my siblings and I still visit the family home. We all live close by and I live in Penrith now. We all went on to further education through university despite going to local public schools. Yes the area has become busier over time mainly due to developments and infrastructure. I’ve personally renovated two older style homes which are now rented out. Colyton is a great area to invest for the future due to the size of the blocks and everything is close by with motorways, universities and tafes, health facilities etc. Colyton will always be home to me.

"Cost saver"

I have lived in Colyton since 99. It's a great area overall. Family orientated and people are friendly, great for sports, schools are close, shops are close in every direction and same with public transport. Close to M4 or M7 plus there's alot of infrastructure and employment You dont need to go far to get virtually anything you need and general living cost in the area is cheaper. I have saved at least 20k in the time I have lived here in comparison to somebody that lives in St Ives. I am a grown man and i feel safe anytime or day walking the streets. I hardly lock my house and car and have never experienced theft. I have lived in Baulkham Hills and Parramatta and i find Colyton more safer going on my own personal life experiences. Yes bad things have happened in Colyton but they happen in every suburb in Sydney. Drug uses in every suburb in Sydney and if you think Colyton has more drugs, uses and dealers compared to ex Inner city, Eastern suburbs, Northern Suburbs your a fool. I have read other peoples comments and you all have the wrong perception of Mt Druitt. Its the far back suburbs of Mt Druitt which is struggle street which is actually closer to newer estates like Plumpton or Ropes Crossing or even suburbs on Richmond road and is all apart of the Blacktown Council where Colyton is apart of Penrith Valley Council. I accept peoples opinions and there experience but we all see and accept social living standards and behaviours different. The stats will be correct from real people living in area for a substantial amount of time and would be more of a correct description. It's all about standard of living. If you like living the Bondi life with glitz n money, gourmet side walk metro cafes with rich people and pricey scarfs around there necks well Colyton is not for you but if you live and can live in Colyton you could live anywhere just about.

Great for

  • Where else in the world can you get a Hamburger snack pack for $5.50 with a can of coke.
  • Schools, public transport, roads, employment
  • Sporty family orientated area

Not great for

  • To bloody hot in summer and cold in winter

Its terrible place to live. No one mows there kawn. I often see drunks walking home from pub with mullet. Schools there are terrible. Shootings. Murders etc even a black guy trued to kidnap a school girl in broard daylight. Then mate you have the classy Colyton shops....both shops are terrible. Ewww ewwww

"A happy & content resident"

I have only lived in the area for 8 months after moving from Minchinbury. It was the best decision I have made. I have noticed that there is no graffiti in the area or groups of kids walking the streets late at night asking for trouble.
It is such a quiet area & the people are so friendly & reserved. I highly recommend Colyton to anyone, young or old.
I'm not sure what planet other people have come from to disagree but, each to their own I guess.
Who cares if it's near Mt Druitt, it's what you make of it that counts.

Dear Yep, I have lived in Colyton since 2003 and must say I disagree. I live in the part constructed 75-85, the Huddleston St area. Quiet, family oriented suburb. I reside on a corner block and like to work on cars every now and then on weekends, flex days from work, etc, but out of respect to my neighbours, I don't use any rattle guns aka impact wrenches, but only hand tools, and keep idling my car engines to a very very minimum.

BillB4

Lived there for 20 years. At the start it was a good suburb with decent working class families. Now it is just a satellite suburb of Mt Druitt. Drug dealers, neighbours that have no respect for others and a place where graffiti is just normal. Too many single mothers with feral teenagers on the dole. Give this suburb a wide berth if you are thinking of buying there.

Really Colyton NSW. It has classy shopping centres. Includes a bottlo and TAB and takaway shops that i wouldnt let my dog dine there. A pub where you get alot of drunks. The schools are great not. You have to send your kid on a 20min bus trip just to go to a decent school. Bennett road is full of fibro houses which include classy lounges on there porches and i dont think they know the lawn mower has been invented. Murders. A few house fires homicide. And kidnappings. Countless times the kids get a note in there bag to watch for a white ford or a van seen around schools. To not approach these vehicles. Scary if you have kids. If you work in Parranatta or City. You get to go to St Marys Station or Mount Druitt station lucky you..... And park your car and hope when you catch the train back on a 30 min to 60 min communte one way your cars wheels are still detatched. Remember that the train station in on Queen Street handy if you like Methodone or Asian brothels or even a tattoo. I would never recommend living there if you have a family and you want the best for your kids. Remember you 2 mins from Mount Druitt aka struggle street.

Add a comment...it a worse suburb to live full of durg addicts will not recommend to anyone its a place that human does not belong to live its shame on the council to waste millions on tax payers money its time the Penrith council takes action shame on council fir not doing anything best to make the community safe shame on local government and planning the suburb cannot walk alone after 6pm after dark safety issues.
