Looking for a home in Coogee?

"That beach though!"

What an awesome location to live. With the beach that has it all, white sand, fishing, diving, swimming and a dog beach where your poocies can also enjoy the surf. Coogee is a great place to live. Neighbours are nice and friendly. You'll often see neighbours having a yarn out the front or at the parks. I especially love the big beautiful off lead dog park, powell park. Its not far from Freo, but it off the hustle and bustle, and has some great local cafe's and restaurants. Its also safe and clean :)

""Best suburb in Perth and better still it's at the beach!""

Coogee is amazing and has it all! Including a great beach, restaurants, cafes, and coffee. Also the locals are all very friendly as well, I know as I live here.

"Pros and Cons"

We live in the 'older' part of Coogee with our 2 young children (we lived here for a year back in 2011 and then moved back again in 2017 after working up north). The good parts is the local primary school has a very good reputation (if you are in the small boundary as some parts of Coogee aren't included!) It seems quite safe, other than a neighbour having their car broken in to one night there haven't been any issues. It's good that there are nice dining options near by, a few good cafes and of course Freo and South Freo. The major negatives I find are the distance to the Freeway and airport, the crappy suburbs you have to drive through to get most places (close proximity to Spearwood / Hamilton Hill / Cooby etc) and the rubbish shopping centre - Phoenix, it is honestly terrible. Port Coogee Woolies is much better but there is no post office and limited other stores at Port Coogee. The other down fall is there are no good high schools near by and due to living on the hill it is too steep to walk with the pram a toddler (and dog). If you are a big beachy person who only shops online or is happy to drive to Garden City you would probably love it...

"New to Port Coogee"

We moved in 4 months ago and absolutely love this area, it is so quite and peaceful as well as being safe. Many well kept parks and play grounds for kids plus walking distance to the beach and Marina with safe barricaded swimming area to keep sharks etc.. out. Currently a new shopping centre is being built that will have Woolworths and 17 retail amenities outlets, apparently with Bakery Chemists News agent and small cafe's and retail stores right next to the Marina and water areas.

Coogee beach is amazing and we now prefer it to the northern beaches as it is protected by garden island it does not have any waves and in fact is like a lake in the mornings, much more pleasurable to swim at as there is not rip/currents or waves to contend with. Water is crystal clear and beautiful radiant blue.

Many new quality 2 story homes and luxurious apartment buildings constantly being built even when a lot of other areas in Perth have stalled or stopped building indicating it is a high demand area.

With Large established trees and manicured verge gardens and stunning architectural house builds this area has a aura of successful residents who pride the place that they live in. My wife and I are happy to never leave this area.

Great for

  • Quite
  • Safe
  • Successful peolpe

Not great for

  • Building sites for the next few years
  • Expensive entry price

"Holiday life every day - coastal lifestyle under 30 minutes from Perth CBD"

I've lived in Coogee for about 6 months, having lived in some great suburbs (Wembley, Manly NSW, Hunters Hill NSW) - and it takes the lifestyle award. On our second day our neighbour passed 2 live crayfish over the fence, we went for a run and jump off the wharf the following day and almost landed on a great big seal. 8km square of parkland on the beach, and a pleasant 30 minute coastal cycle to Fremantle. Traffic to the city is generally good - about 25 to 30 minutes, and the local primary school is excellent. The only opportunity is eating out and shopping, this should improve with major facilities planned in the Port Coogee marina by 2014.
