"Never buy a home here"

At First I thought that its a quiet and good place to live but then one day my driver license got stolen from my letterbox. Then i put a lock on it. I don’t know who the junkie is but he/she then put a needle in my letterbox and after some days the lock was broken & was not there. Finally i had to install a security camera on my front for some security. So this is a place full of druggies.
Beware of such junkies!

"A quiet little place with lots of friendly people"

I have lived in East Devonport since 2011. It is a quiet little suburb of some 4,500 people. It has some of the best examples of the houses of old Devonport still standing , parks, beaches and good walking tracks. Our local primary school is considered one of the better ones in the general area, we have the best bakery by a country mile ( and it is open 24 hours a day), a good medical practice, chemist, the best butcher in Devonport and no parking meters in the shopping village. The little ferry is a great way to head across the river, and the cost is about what it costs for parking your car in town. Unfortunately we are stuck with an old myth that crime is rampant here and it is a dangerous place to live. Why people have to perpetuate such rubbish is beyond me. That there are who wish to denigrate their own town and their fellow Tasmanians is also beyond me. I think they should go and try living in some of those suburbs in the big mainland cities where is real concern about serious crime.

East Devonport is a great place to live !

I agree with ScottK1 about what a really nice place we have here the stupidity of the reputation that East Devonport has been labelled with by people who do not live here. As far as I can find out it got branded back in the 1980s and 1990s . It was said to be crime ridden. I think it just was given a bad name as so many of the houses were public housing residences and for no other reason than that. The dirt just stuck and ignorant people just keep feeding the myth even though so much of the public housing was sold off nearly 20 years ago and we have some of the oldest and finest homes in Devonport here. Our crime rate here is lower than Launceston, Hobart and any city on the mainland, the weather is the best in Australia and the people pretty friendly. What more could you ask for?

Rentals in East Devonport

"a good lifestyle"

I lived in East Devonport in 2002-2004 in Elanora Place and found the people in that street to be a very friendly, helpful and quiet neighbours. If you needed help they were there to help. I have lived in 2 different states since then but still visit our ex-neighbours and the street is still as good now as it was then. The walking tracks are ideal for exercise and even though there are only a handful of shops they are adequate. The buses are good and if your energetic it is a good walk to the CBD. Yes there are some less than desirable people in that area but they are few and pop up everywhere even in elite areas. I found it a wonderful place to live overall.

"Coraki Street"

I have lived in Coraki street for over 20 years, and I have to disagree totally with johnnyboi. He portrays this street and the area in a very bad light, and it's not like that at all. The street is quiet and safe. Yes we have the odd hoon that leaves skid marks on the road, but doesn't most areas have that these days, with stupid young drivers on our roads thinking they are invincible? Apart from that the street is safe and quiet, and the neighbours are lovely. It was a housing commission area in the past, but that has changed. Apart from the odd rental, most of the houses are now privately owned, and quite a few of the homes have been renovated by the new owners.

I agree with you. East Devonport is a great place to live. Much quieter and friendlier than across the river in Devonprt which is still a nice place. I don't know why some people have to keep old myths going and by doing this badmouthing their own town and people.
