"Old area, but quickly developing!"

Enfield is an inner northern suburb located in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. It is located a short 10 minutes away (or depending on the traffic) from the city and boasts so many potentials that could make Enfield the next inner boom and is developing very quickly!

To start off, the neighbours in this area are friendly. I have a very friendly neighbour and we're almost like family-friends! We see each other for visits quite regularly and sometimes a chat over the fence is enough to consider my neighbours friendly. I've bumped into many friendly people in the street and make small talk. Enfield is generally peaceful and neighbours aren't loud people. Most days, it is very peaceful and quiet.

On summer evening strolls, you could see quite a few others taking a nice walk as well once dusk hits. In my opinion and based on experience, it's safe to go for an evening stroll but at times it does feel sketchy.

Shopping destinations here are all in close proximity to Enfield, with only 10 minutes to the CBD, Tea Tree Plaza at Modbury only 20 minutes away and Northpark Shopping Centre in Prospect literally only 2-3 minutes away, with lots of eateries also available. You also have the choice of O'Connell Street in North Adelaide just a 5-minute drive. However, in regards to Enfield, the closest and probably popular eateries would likely be Villis on Main North Road, Blair Athol. I remember in March 2015, I decided to walk to Villis since it was a beautiful night and guess what? It approximately took 15 minutes! So if a nice night comes around, leave the car at home, save gas and take a lovely stroll to Villis!

Enfield offers a few parks and recreation, with a good park located on Wilkinson Court, the slightly more modern part of Enfield. That park offers a big-ish playground, swings, benches, shade, a walking trail and of course, large green spaces to enjoy the soccer or footy, and even for the little ones and teenagers, frisbee. 20 minutes from the beach are the popular Metropolitan beaches of Glenelg and Henley Beach!

Nightlife isn't that great specifically in Enfield, but O'Connell Street in North Adelaide or Prospect Road in Prospect boasts a great nightlife. You could even head out to the metro beaches for a great nightlife, only 20 minutes away. Internet access in the area is rather great but has ADSL2+. The NBN is coming soon, however (NBN UPDATE: Should go live in this area between November 2017 and January 2018). 5-6mbps download speeds and 1mbps upload speeds are what I receive. Of course, it isn' the best, but the NBN is coming soon as stated before so it should improve. Overall, accessing the internet in Enfield is associated with no problems whatsoever.

The cost of living in Enfield is cheap, with the average home costing $380k. Speaking of homes, however, Enfield has become a relatively old area but many new homes have been built and upgraded footpaths where new homes have been built. Even though homes do need renovating and rebuilding, in the future, Enfield will become a place for the modern lover like me. I also rebuilt my home.

Schools in the area are good, with two primary schools, Enfield Primary School and St Gabriel's Primary School, both offering an excellence of education (both are co-educational) so perfect for families wanting a close-by school with both schools located in Enfield. Other excellent schools are also located in surrounding areas. There is an excellent childcare in Enfield called Folland Park Kindergarten, and that offers amazing support in the growth of early learning toddlers.

Overall, with quite a few renters and old homes, Enfield is a gem of a suburb waiting for good to happen. It is located 10 minutes from the city, surrounds plenty of shopping options and eatieres and it's averagely safe, peaceful and cleanish. Any questions or comments, please feel free! I will get back to them as quickly as I can!
Pros
  • Safety has increased
  • close to town
  • shopping
  • Lots of big block properties

  • Lots of new homes
  • Niceness and friendliness of people in the area
  • Quickly developing!
Cons
  • Oddly uncomfortable taking a nice summers evening stroll after 9pm
  • Needs renovating and new homes need to be built
  • Not as comfortably safe as other suburbs

sanjitchahal HI
I am planning to purchase the property near Watt street, York street and Wilkinson court. Can I please request you to please advise me how is the area like it self. As I am aware that there are some community houses, aged care and retirement units there. I will appreciate your honest response.

thesuburbreviewer25 Hi Sanjit,

I apologise sincerely for my late response. As you could probably tell, I have changed my username, but just so I can reassure you, I was AnnaT2.

Yorke Street, Watt Street and Wilkinson Court is the more slightly modern area of Enfield, which obviously means there are very few housing trust homes in and around those streets. The aged care retirement units are located on Bradford Court, which doesn't situate or connect to any of the three streets you said, as well as community homes. The houses in these streets are generally tidy, and, judging people's homes, it's a pretty quiet and safe estate of Enfield. On Wilkinson Court, there is a fairly large park (as said in my review) that includes a playground and swings, a walking trail and grass spaces.

That's pretty much said about what you have kindly requested to ask me about, and thanks very much for that. I know it's been almost a year and I've responded you with nothing, I hope this helps! Also, any more questions regarding these streets, feel free to ask me more! Thank you.

"Excellent family suburb - quickly developing"

I've lived here for ten years and seen this suburb lift dramatically. Took a chance in purchasing here and it has paid off. Development in the suburb is rapidly happening and the place is rejuvenating with young families. With facilities like northpark shopping centre nearby and Churchill centre a short drive away there is excellent retail. The coopers ale house is brilliant and there are so many restaurants around to eat in. Enfield primary school is a lovely little school too as I have recently discovered! People and neighbors are friendly. Well worth considering buying or living in the area.

Buses are running regularly into the CBD. We have never had any issus of crime here. Again, its very safe. Well, Ely is wrong. I have seen that Safe and Sound for him/she is one star. Impossible! What side of Enfield do you live on??? Enfield is incredibly safe!!!!! He/She must be living on the Broadview side.

AnnaT1 Well, I can tell you. I'm very familiar with that street. If your investing, you might have to wait for a while if you want to invest. I think that there isn't much there, but I think RealEstate will have a couple. Hope this helps!

"Bad experience"

Well I moved to Enfield in a rental a month ago and since then my car has been broken into, water wash shut off for 12 hours, rev heads screaming past my house all hours of the night, and someone has come into my yard and let our dog out!

Wish I could leave but signed a year contract and cant afford to move, totally don't recommend this area I don't feel safe at all!

"Nice area to live"

Enfield is an old area but growing up, more and more houses have been devided into 2 , that means more people live here soon. It would bring some problems about safe, who knows.
In fact, it is too convenient for shopping public traffic, close to city just 8km, quiet as well.
I like this suburb, for living with my family.

"Nice area close to all the shops"

I have lived in Blair Athol for many years. I love how close it is to the amenities and very close to town. For a suburb that is only 15 mins drive to town the prices are very reasonable. With the recent addition of the Gepps cross homemaker centre all my shopping needs are 5 mins up the road. Public transport is excellent with Go zones on both Main North and Prospect road. Port Adelaide Enfield council is a very good council with one of the cheapest rates in Adelaide. The services they offer are very good such as a free Hard rubbish collection service by appointment all year round and free green waste disposal at wingfield dump. In conclusion I am very happy living in Blair Athol.

"Convenient, friendly and full of character"

Blair Athol is super convenient with Northpark shopping centre and prospect road precinct within walking distance. North Adelaide is a 5 minute drive and the CBD about 10 minutes away. There are some lovely character homes and parks with playgrounds. It is way undervalued with the same types of homes only a street or two away in Prospect selling for an extra 100000. Get in while you can.

"Not the suburb I once knew"

I hold fond memories of Blair Athol - this is where I grew up. However when on occasion I return to this area I feel that it is gradually declining.

It is wonderfully located, just 20 minutes from the city using public transport. There is also a lot of new development in the area. Many old style houses have been demolished and two new homes have replaced it.

It is close to Prospect and therefore only a short drive to the Prospect precinct or the Northpark and Sefton Park shopping centres. There are also schools, supermarkets and churches within walking distance.

When I say the area is declining, maybe I am looking through nostalgic rose coloured glasses. However the reason I believe this is that the neighbourhood's gardens are not maintained like they once were. I see more "interesting" looking individuals in the streets and gardens than I once did. And this may seem an odd thing to say, but I feel the vibe of community that once existed in this suburb is disintegrating.

This is a great place to invest, because of the suburb's proximity to the city you would never lose. However I feel the charm of Blair Athol as a great place to live is slipping away.

"A older area yet to boom"

North of the city in an older area there is a bit to like about Enfield. It is a bit further out than expected but there are some beautiful older houses around and the streets are quite nice as well.

Enfield is a bit like prospect except it hasn't really taken off yet. It will and is in the process of doing so.
It is quite well serviced by public transport, especially if you can get to the main roads.

It’s not far from Prospect shops and the shops at Sefton Plaza and it really isn't too far to North Adelaide and the city.

The proximity to the city makes it appealing to young families that don't want to be too far out.
