Reviews of Gertrude Street, Fitzroy
"A growing fashion precinct"
Gertrude St is becoming a fashion precinct and also an entertainment area along with nearby Smith St (at least the eastern end of Gertrude St). The western end is mostly shabby and full of the hopeless and homeless. It's also a major street for art galleries in Fitzroy and has its own projection festival - see http://www.thegertrudeassociation.com/.

"Great street but can be an eye opener"
There are some fantastic places to go out on Gertrude Street. The burgers at Little Rebel are amongst the best in Melbourne, plus they only cost $10 including a beer. Enoteca, Birdman Eating, Ume and Arcadia serve up great coffee and food as well.
But if you're not used to seeing the local drunks on the turps by 10am or kids occaisonally chroming on the corner with brunswick street then you might be in for a bit of an awakening.
