Glendalough, WA 6016

I moved into Glendalough a year ago and since then I have been very pleased with this decision. The suburb is superbly located with Lake Monger for nice walks, nearby train station with a 5 minute ride into the city and a nice small shopping centre. I find the biggest issue living in a complex is there isn't much parking available however this will obviously vary based on your housing type. Living in a large complex I found the neighbours were mostly quiet and friendly families or retirees however some of them with young families can be quite noisy in the adjacent complexes.

I lived in Glendalough for 6 years and for the most part I absolutely loved it. I don't drive so having a close station and bus stops close by was great. I worked in the city and in Fremantle and never had problems unless the trains were down. Five minutes drive to everywhere ...Subiaco, Leederville, Mount Hawthorn cafés and shops a short distance. Fast bus to the beach or a quick 10 minute drive if the traffic is off peak. Montessori School and Lake Monger Primary are in the area. I think the closest high school is Churchlands.
The IGA is good, chemist good, Lake Monger and Herdsman Lake parks are awesome. I lived with my partner and a child in this area. I was so happy to live only a 5 minute drive from the King Edward Hospital when I was pregnant, especially as we had an emergency delivery! Harborne Dental is great too.
The one downside is there is not much on street parking if you live Harborne St way like we did. In some ways this is good because there I noticed it stopped people from having big parties. Our complex was so quiet at night it was surprising.

Nothing to say...if you want to live in a noisy and industrial area... I recommend for low income people....OMG

I lived in Como 2 years, Cannington 1 year and now in Glendalough half year

Como quiet and beautiful but difficult shopping if you want to walk

Cannington quiet and good for shopping but no park no lake no views

Glendalough a bit noisey but I like, I sleep even better here than Cannington. Easy shopping, Easy Beach, Easy Lake and Easy everything

yes there are some industory here, but who cares? think about Cannington......even more industory there

Affordable area to live with good potential for property value growth

Having lived in Glendalough for the past 2 years I'm happy to say that the place is great and safe. Location is excellent with the freeway being close.

The other lady bagging the place must have been evicted and therefore has some grievances to voice... maybe she’d been better off paying her rent on time instead of getting angry in the net.

Being next to some excellent suburbs, Wembley and Mt Hawthorn I feel adds some real value to the area as it's somewhat undiscovered.

5 minutes to the city
8 minutes to the beach
7 minutes to Wembley Golf course
Walk around the lake to leedervile for a coffe on Sunday morning.

Crime... I'd say it's no worse than anywhere else, I certainly feel safe here.


Glendalough.... you'll love it!!

I'd just like to point out that the previous review isn't founded on any hard data. I don't know much about Glendalough but I know the crime rate isn't high. In fact it's one of the lowest in Perth.

You can do the research for yourself by using www.police.wa.gov.au

Using an entire year to sample I'll compare with Mosman Park.. for anyone that knows a fairly wealthy suburb.

Lets start with Mosman park, it had the following crimes reported:

27 Assault
71 Burglary (Dwelling)
22 Burglary (Other)
10 Graffiti
3 Robbery
24 Steal Motor Vehicle

Glendalough had these:
19 Assault
34 Burglary (Dwelling)
1 Burdlary (Other)
6 Graffiti
5 Robbery
11 Steal Motor Vehicle.

That's sampled from January 2009 - December 2009, directly from police records.

To give a fair comparison, a suburb with bad crime figures looks like this:

217 Assault
238 Burglary (Dwelling)
72 Burlglary (Other)
266 Graffiti
21 Robbery
68 Steal Motor Vehicle

That's gosnells for anyone interested. Glendalough didn't even hit 100 crimes in total, and had half the crime of one of the wealthiest suburbs in Perth metro.

I don't need to make biased sweeping statements, the figures talk for me.

Though the last review was correct it does offer excellent rental returns. There's posts in the forums that detail it's one of the best suburbs in perth to buy an investment property.
