Cane Toads

Hi, we are looking at moving to your area, and being from Ireland myself and a hubby from WA, we know nothing about your wildlife, namely cane toads!! We are just a little concerned about our dog, so wanted a bit of info from the locals!! Whats the situation like in Karana Downs? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but its one thats important to us........thanks

We lived in North Queensland with all the cane toads and our dog never had any problems. Down here there are a few around and the dogs leave them alone. I guess if you have the kind of dog that likes to chase things then it could be a bit of a problem. The worse thing is that they seem to like sitting near the front door of the houses I have lived in 😖 lol

Hi Lulabell,

There are quite a few cane toads in Karana Downs thanks to Colleges Crossing waterway nearby. If you are concerned, try somewhere a little further away from the water. There isn't really anywhere that doesn't have any cane toads at all but we don't have anywhere near as many as they do in North Queensland. I have lived here all my life and had dogs in backyards and never had a problem. It does happen, but not as frequently as you would think.
