Cairns is in far north Queensland and has an airport. Places like Port Douglas, Palm Cove are within 30 km distance of Cairns. Port Douglas is bit expensive compared to Cairns. From Cairns boats depart every hour to the great barrier reef. Cairns has a sandy beach area developed by city council and is good for all ages to relax and have a dip. The sandy beach also has a saltwater pool. Has the toliets, BBQs, etc and the shops and restaurants are just across the road.
There is a boardwalk along the Esplandae and is good for morning and evening walks. There are some gym equiments alongside the boardwalk. Also some kids play facilities, BBQs, shelters. Cairns has a biggest indoor multi-storey zoo in the city. You can literally walk to all places around the city.
Train journey from Cairns to Kuranda and back in the sky rail is a highlight. It is one of the scenic and ancient railways. The water fall on the way is really beautiful. The Bird park in Kuranda, aboriginal art galleries in Kuranda, eating places are worth visiting. We got down in each train station on the way and enjoyed the nature. There are few stops on the way back in Sky rail and is worth getting down and having a look around.
There is a beautiful butterfly park on the way to Cape Tribulation. Cook town is only 200 kms from Cairns and is a historical town. Hartleys crocodile farm is one of the best.
