"Sleepy & quiet town close to everything!"

I have been actively selling property in the Lowood area for over 12 months now and the experience has been awesome! The town has everything on offer, from grocery and medical needs to fuel and hardware!

The location can't be argued with - major shopping in Ipswich is just 32 minutes away (25 to Brassall) and you've also got Fernvale and Plainland under 15 minutes away!

The people are friendly and the majority of the homes are well kept. Highly recommend considering a purchase @ Lowood.

Looking for a home in Lowood?

24th January 2022

"I thought I was settling for ."

I work at Wacol . 30 minute commute even in peak hour .
Houses are cheap compared to Brisbane and Ipswich.
There is a large primary school and large high school.
The large medical centre bulk bills . I have my own excellent doctors.
Drakes supermarket and the mitre 10 are great services .
There is a proactive citizens group .
Let us say we are ensuring that better quality of tenants come here .
My unit settled in 2020 .
It is brick and tile but was cheap .
I find I have an excellent outlook over the neighbouring paddock and dam .
Prices have risen a little . But for $250k .
You will get a less than 10 year old brick and tile .
Near the Brisbane River.
The drive up over the panoramic hill to Glamorganvale. Only ten minutes. But what a view !

"The town itself is ok but avoid the estate"

Okay was looking at buying here, thank god I dodged a bullet. (Spent a few months not just a novice review) The town itself is worth a drive through and some very pretty houses. Do not skip the bakery, I swear they make the best sausage rolls from far and wide. Unfortunately the estate has totally ruined this piece of rural paradise. Full of druggies and scum, looked at a few house to buy and, oh just no. I cannot understand how the investors of these properties make any profit after repairs to the house when the tenants move out. Look at Laidley or Plainland, very up and coming, and the shops dont have almost mad max protection to stop break ins. Great to stop in and give the local businesses some help, but if you purchase would suggest other side of town far from estate and have security.

Rentals in Lowood

"OMG! DO NOT BUY IN LOWOOD!"

We were attracted by the low house prices in Lowood. In the so called "Eagle Rise Estate" you can purchase recently built 4 room, one level houses from 230k, would you believe it?
Well, there is a reason for that. When we went there to meet a real estate agent to take a look at a house, we arrived early. So we thought we chat with lady with a pram who obviously lived ther. We asked: "In hindsight, would you come and live here again?"
she said, "given the affordability, probably yes. We just learned to keep to ourselves. When ther is a fight on the road, don't get involved. Same for the usual domestic violence, drug deals or burn outs. Don't go out, don't get involved. Lots of theft. Dont leave anything outside. Lock your garage from the inside. Get a dog. Watch for needles on the playground. And then, during the day, everything is ok. Even if they tow unregistered or stolen cars, just dont get involved."
Well, good news that! Keep to yourself, get a dog, lock everything up and your'e safe, basically. Since we made the appointment, we met the agent, went into the house which was rented and occupied by six or seven young people, which basically met the criteria to be the people not to get involved with. The house was a smelling mess inside. On the way out we drove past two police cars, straegically parked and at the exit to the estate waited two large tow trucks. In Lowood itself we learned that it once was a lovely community, but the last years nearly every business was broken in to, many more than once. Apparently the Eagle Rise Estate was mainly bought by investors who rented out to bogans. Take a look ate crime rate.
In our opinion, don't buy here. We are taking a good look at Plainland area and Laidley.

"Beautiful and quiet"

Live in the outskirts of town. Quiet town. Everyone is kind. You will only have a tough time if you surround yourself with bad people as in every town.

"Low socioeconomic town"

Low socioeconomic town but easy access to drugs 😂

Since the housing crisis, it’s not even cheap to rent in Lowood now so the only positive to living there is now gone.

  • Very nice scenery

"Trouble trouble trouble"

At first before we moved here we hummed and harred about moving into the eagle rise estate. I should have listened to my gut.. its bloody horrible!!

Full of bloody junkies and bogans!! The day we moved in our back garage door had been tampered with and we found knives in the brick work.

Our house has been broken into 7 times in 5 years. Thankfully we have only been here for nearly a year and im done.. fed up and ready to leave..We have had to invest in a security camera system because our neighbour is a psycho. We have had someone arrested on our front lawn and our garden searched for drugs cuz the guy who was arrested threw them in the garden, we had a massive punch up on our front lawn on halloween .. we didnt even know the bloody people!! Not to mention the idiots doing burnouts and im waiting for a car to come through our house..

I have also been told by the lowood police that the parolees from the prison get discounted housing when they are released from the prison. That is also why the police are pretty much constantly patrolling the estate. .. so i was told.

The coppers from down north came up and just to go and get a lettuce from fernvale my husband was breathalised 2 times, the car searched inside and out on the way to and from fermvale (twice), drug tested just accross the road from our house .. which is fine as we dont do any of that.. but it certainly makes a quick trip a long trip!

the internet speeds are appalling too!

I liked lowood when we first moved here, but this last month and a bit has been hell and I can not wait to leave next july!

Word of advice is DONT DO IT!! We even kept to ourselves and know know one here thinking it would help us avoid trouble... it didnt..

Sure rent is cheap but this is why.. if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.. and now we have to fork out and move again and pay for our big mistake of moving here!!

Great for

  • Nice houses reasonable prices

Not great for

  • Slow internet
  • Keep to yourself
  • Crime and trouble
  • Not a good environment to raise children
  • IGA a rip off

"Town full of nice people & a lot of Bogans."

Being the cheapest place to live its attracts all the wrong king of people. Development companies have built 2 estates for Investors comprising of poorly equipped houses & they do not do repairs. If you ask for repairs you get evicted. Most tenants are in the lower socio economic class. Police always in your street. Schools no better. Shops expensive especially IGA, its a rip off. No Public transport or 24 hour Police station, its not even an 8 hour station. I wouldn't be here if I worked but being disabled pensioner I have too. Most people afraid to go outside at night, with good reason. Great place to buy a farm or outside Estates but don't rent in the Estates if you can avoid it.

Great for

  • Cheap rent
  • Quiet, peaceful countryside
  • Very nice scenery

Not great for

  • IGA a rip off
  • A little drive to the shops
  • Not a good environment to raise children

I happen to live in one of the estates. Never had a problem. I go out at night etc and feel perfectly safe as a female.
As for reapirs and being evicted, thats your realestate not the actual suburb which is unfortunate. We have had our hot water sustem repaired, our taps replaced, 1 air con replaced and the other one fixed a million times. I do believe the owner is also in the process of replacing the second ac unit.

The houses do go up fast but that is just the way it is these days. It happens everywhere. I know of people in the inner north brisbane suburbs in the fancy estates who have more problems then most do here.

I do agree the IGA is under stocked and over priced majorly. However we find a drive to fernvale woolworths saves a lot of money and Aldi isnt too far if you head out gatton way. The drive seems faster than going to Ipswich.

I know there are some so and sos in this estate, I happen to live next door to one. She cant mind her own business and her dog never shuts up. So she started spreading stuff around about us because we asked her to reduce her dogs noise. But hey, that kind of child like attitude is everywhere you go.

We came back to the area from stanthorpe/killarney and warwick.. You think Lowood is bad.. spend a year or so in any of those towns and suddenly lowood looks like paradise.

We love our house, it has everything we need. We were lucky enough to be able to get a port for internet at the exchange which I was told is very rare at the time of us moving.

Best of all our house has no gas.
we have a satellite dish
heaps of cupboard space in the kitchen ( i kotice a lot dont have much)
dishwasher
2 aircons
6ft fences
tanks to help reduce water costs
remote double lock up garage
security screens and blinds on all windows.

For the price its about the best equipped house we have ever found.. I am in my 20s and lived in over 25 houses.. These houses are the best bang for your buck..

Have a look at prices in fernvale. They are so expensive and the Honeywood estate has an even worse reputation.

Alot of the troublemon Tawney street also seems to have been moved on. Thankfully!

I am sorry to hear your move to Lowood wasnt as good as ours and that you have had problems etc.

My first rule when we moved here was keep to yourself. Which for the most part worked.. except for the neighbour.

What your realestate is doing if they are trying ro evict you for asking for repairs is illegal. Dont be afraid to stand up for your rights!

all the best!

oh how i am eating my words.. this town has really gone down hill since i wrote my review and the above comment.. the town is literally falling apart and no one gives a toss! The crime has gotten so bad and its such a shame cuz the houses are great for the price. We have decided to leave in july when our lease is up!

"Small rural area with limited services"

I'm confused about the reviews here. Lowood was both our childhood homes and we lived there up until 5 years ago .. and while some locals were lovely, some definitely weren't nice at all. While the scenery is spectacular (in my opinion), this is not a town you would want to bring up your kids in. The primary and secondary schools have reputations that .. haven't changed much in 40 odd years. There was a 'rail-link' bus that left for Ipswich early in the morning, returning late in afternoon (Ipswich around 30 minutes drive away), but no public transport apart from that (tore up the train tracks around 20 odd years ago when they thought it too expensive to maintain the wooden bridges). Fair bit of crime, but get that everywhere. And it's a good place to retire, if you like the quiet life and like to keep to yourself, but it's definitely no place to raise kids. That would be Fernvale, a short drive from Lowood.

"Quiet semi-rural family friendly neighbourhood"

We moved here 3 years ago to escape the suburban 'rat race'. We have three young children and we would like them to live a childhood where they can safely run and play and not be glued to the television or computer (although we do have broadband for work and study purposes). We like this semi-rural area as it is quiet but not too far from major services. Acreage blocks are good for a horse, cow, goats, chooks, ducks, large vegie garden, etc (which we have). The area is fantastic for primary school aged children - lots of space to run and play, ride their bikes and for a swing set, trampoline, etc (we do not have a Playstation, Wii, etc). There doesn't seem to be a lot for teenagers to do around the area. There is only one high school but there is the option of travelling by bus to private schools in Ipswich and surrounding areas (only 35 mins away). We have nice neighbours who help each other out. The main thing this area is missing will be remedied over the next 12 months - an Indoor Sports Centre which is to be built at Fernvale (10 mins away). There is a good variety of outdoor sports to play and a nice golf course in Lowood (4 mins away). You can swim, canoe and fish in the Brisbane River which is only about a 10 min drive from here.
