Moving to Mackay from Canberra

Mackay (Greater) Region is located in the state of Queensland.

We are a family of four with two kids ages 6 and 4. We home school and I teach piano on the weekends. Husband works for government. We are looking at relocating to Mackay. Just wanted to know if it's a safe place for kids and what the employment opportunities are like. Husband is applying for a job at the council. Thanks.
