Reviews of Malanda, QLD

"Malanda is a great place to live or spend your holidays"

My wife and I love Malanda, it is only 1 hour from Cairns but never gets as hot and muggy. You'll love it too, there are more waterfalls to visit within 1 hour of Malanda than there are anywhere on the planet, yes a big claim, but wait until you visit some of them, even we have not seen them all.
Malanda's climate is naturally air conditined all the time, there is beautiful rainforests and parks to explore, hot springs only 1 hour away, infact every imaginable tourist attraction is within 1 hour, many only minutes away. Living in Malanda is quiet and safe, the locals are friendly and you will feel at home in no time. There are nice cafe's, chocolate, cheeses, and teas all made locally. The crater lakes of Eacham and Barrine are only minutes away where swimming is completely safe with nothing to bite you or sting you while you are in the water.

Great for

  • Things to do and places to visit
  • Naturally air conditioned
  • Friendly, safe and quiet

Not great for

  • Limited night life
  • 10 minute drive to Atherton for major shops
  • Limited work prospects if not self employed

Looking for a home in Malanda?

"Great Place to live"

We had the best experience when looking to move to the Atherton Tablelands. We found the most honest real estate agents in Queensland at Raine & Horne in the main street of Malanda, who gave us all the information we could want, and then continued helping after we purchased by giving us trade and other peoples contact details. Their knowledge of everything from the environment and water issues to cattle and livestock to tree planting to the local theatre and arts scene was so impressive and unbelievably helpful. Our property has everything we could want - trees, water, grass, nice house and a shed! We felt welcomed from the minute we walked into their shop, and will be very happy to call Malanda home for a long time to come.

"Malanda - Varied home, prices good for first home buyers."

Malanda is in Nth QLD on the Atherton Tablelands. Famous for its milk and cheese, Malanda is said to have the longest milk runs in the world transporting milk all over far north QLD. Malanda falls has a very informative Environmental Centre in which you find the Volcano Room, a touch and learn rainforest Room as well as the Cultural Room of the Ngadjonji people. Accommodation is varied including B & B's Motel and self contained units and the property market is just as varied with home prices ranging from end of the scale to another, but there are definitely some good bargains around for people who want to live in the tropical haven.
