As far as crime goes you are probably as safe there as in other parts of Canberra. However, it is considered to be quite a seedy place as it is one of the only two suburbs along with Fyshwick that has legal brothels and a thriving adult industry. It is a light industrial area so there would be only one reason that you would be there after dark.
