Reviews of Mittagong, NSW

"Highlands Gateway, Convenient, Peaceful & Green"

Lived in the highlands for 20 years in a few places and Mittagong is my favorite. The people in Mittagong are great and helpful; I've never had a problem with anyone. They are pretty down to earth and dont judge or worry about where youre from. Its a relatively active place as its a thoroughfare town to the rest of the highlands and still a beautiful place to explore. sJust around the town there are lots of trails around the Gib or Mt Alexandra which Mittagong sits between. You do need a car here as the shops are far apart and things are pretty spread out depending on where you live but Mittagong has the biggest variety of shops and industries in the Highlands. Good place for primary school kids but high school you have to go Bowral unless you can afford Frensham, one of Australias top girls schools. Its convenient to get onto the freeway to Sydney or Canberra and it has a good train station. The only issue with the Highlands is the local council's mismanagement of funds coupled with high rates. Mittagong gets less attention on roads and infrastructure in general compared to Bowral as they all live around there. Hopefully the Administrator that has been brought and kicked them out will be able to bring in new people that know what they're doing.

"Best town in the southern highlands"

until recently i had lived in the southern highlands all my life, mittagong was the place to go, the only downsides are the train station location and getting around without a car, the transport is horrible! and the shops are spread to far apart.

"Fresh Air and Beautiful"

Our family moved here four months ago and we love it. There is a beautiful lake which is walking distance from our home and there are always families and couples old and young walking their dogs or taking a leisurely stroll.
The streets are very clean with wide roads. Traffic is mostly heavy on the main highway into Mittagong.
The cafe's are okay but we prefer going to Bowral to eat out which is only a 5 min drive. We have all the facilities needed. The only thing our teenage daughter complains about is that there isn't a proper mall like Westfields. The schools down here are great!...especially the private schools, and no I'm not a snob.
Mittagong is very affordable especially when you compare it to the rest of Sydney. I personally think it's worth the sacrifice to live in such a beautiful place and to travel by train to Sydney.

Rentals in Mittagong

"Very pleasant"

Mittagong is a very attractive area. It is handy to the freeway and there is access to most amenities i.e. shopping, medical, train. It is not pretentious and is as beautiful as any of the other small towns and villages. I love the mountains that surround the area. There is a wide variety of real estate for every budget. Most people I know love it here.

"Great place for antiques"

Mittagong lies at the top of the Southern Tablelands in New South Wales and is situated before you get into neighbouring Bowral and Robertson. This town is far less built up and glitzy as Bowral is and has a nice garden next to the train station for you to sit about and enjoy your surroundings. There are a few antique shops in the area that will occupy antique fans and the international piano competition is held at the local hall. The International Piano Competition is quite an event for such a small town. There are your usual fish and chip shops and other cafes to eat but nothing special to make you come back for them. Mittagong is a nice place for a pit stop if you are on your way to Robertson.
