"Just moved to Monty"

We just moved to Monty (Montmorency) and my what a change! Green space, lots of trees, lots of families. It feels safe and clean. Nice big blocks. Train station not far away and Were St shops for groceries, coffee and dining. Many schools to choose from and only 18km from the CBD. We got a free standing house on a large block and are looking forward to raising our family in the area for many years to come.

Looking for a home in Montmorency?

"One of the Best Places I've Lived"

I lived here for a shorter term than I would have liked. It was quiet but not silent. If you're near the main strip of shops that leads to the station it's a prime area. Also not too far from Greensborough plaza with varied forms of transport around. There's even fun events every now and then along Were St!

"Montmorency - home to the besotted"

I've lived in Monty for nearly 10 years now.
It has a lot going for it, but one thing I've certainly noticed is that many of the original locals here are so smitten with the suburb to the point where they think it's the best place of all. I call it the Montmorencian self-deluded syndrome. They rave on about the local services, eateries, schools, real estate agents, and amenities like nothing else compares. My advice to new / prospective residents is to please take everything the so called locals tell you with a grain of salt and don't let them lull you into a false sense of reality.
Monty is a nice place to live but its local services aren't anything special.

Do you think the bordering streets classified as lower plenty, although just a street a way from airlines road. Will they sell as well? With the same amenities access to Monty? Or ppl just wanna buy postcode Monty?

Any thing on or near main Rd para rs or Bolton st def will be less sought after (lower priced) than an equivalent house closer to the station or around Buena Vista for example. Is this for an investment?

"City Convenience with Country Charm"

Monty is that little slice of country just 18kms from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne. Such a wonderful place to call 'home'. Transport is well catered for with train and bus links to the CBD and airport. Another great thing about this suburb is the amount of 'green' spaces with walking trails and parks dotted everywhere. The real advantage of Monty though, lies in its location - to visit the hub of town (Were St), one must divert off the main roads and go searching for it. Its not a place that you can just drive through. The shopping strip (Were St) is an ecclectic mix, with numerous food options and essentials on offer.

"A country vibe, but still close to the city."

I have lived in Monty for 31 years. It is green, hilly and feels like living in a small country town. Were St has great cafes, restaurants, a bar and shops. I have always felt safe and secure, our neighbors are lovely. It's central to the city, airport, hospitals and large shopping centres, but not too close.

"Monty - the suburb with the country feel!"

Monty is a small suburb with a great little shopping village. Hilly, Gum trees & peace and quiet are notable here. Whilst there has been development the land is affordable for families wanting to build within the burbs.

"Gangs moving in, crime rate goes up."

Northeastern side used to be good but nowadays, increasing crimes as gangs moving in. Police presences used to be enough but no longer. Such a pity.

Are you being serious? What gangs and where's your evidence? Peaceful subdued with a great main street with cafes, shops, a handful of restaurants and other shops. One of the quietest suburbs in Melbourne and great for families.

The RACV insurance group have compiled crime statistics for every area in Australia. If you look into it, the average for burglary in Victoria is 1 in 46 homes average per year. In Monty it is 1 in 195 homes, making it one of the safest areas in the state. Complete rubbish, there are no gangs in Monty.

"Fabulous gem 100% happy"

Large blocks, surprisingly close to everything.
Kids playing with neighbours like the olden days. Roller skating, bunnings, cafes, train station (eltham TS is equally as close), water parks, miniature train rides, bushwalking.

"Like a small country town, with a train station and easy commute to the city"

Monty is a great family suburb with great primary schools (both Montmorency South Primary School and Montmorency Primary School) and friendly local shopkeepers who learn your name.
A very leafy area, with lots of local birdlife and trees makes for a great country atmosphere - like Mount Dandenong, but without the bushfires! And only a 40 minute train ride from town.
The only small complaint would be that the footpaths are a tad small and uneven (probably due to tree roots) - but that's nitpicking!

"My favourite suburb!"

We looked at many different suburbs when we relocated to Melbourne, but decided that Montmorency was for us and we don't regret settling here. It's a beautiful area with a lush green canopy, great views, lots of parks and green spaces. Were Street has great little cafes, restaurants and delis and is really bustling in the evenings and at weekends. Parking is easy and plentiful at the station with a 40-odd minute run into the city. Shopping at Greensborough or Doncaster is just round the corner, but it's easy to find peace and quiet; the Yarra Valley is close too. Property prices aren't the cheapest in the outlying suburbs and Monty is a small suburb with fewer properties coming to market, but it's prices seem comparable to Eltham or Greensborough. Older and less well-maintained properties are being snapped up for redevelopment but there's local resistance to over-development. The recent expensive and high-density apartment block near the station is a sign of the way things are going to go in Monty I fear!

"Melbournes best kept secret!"

Montmorency has the unique blend of leafy streets and a bustling little community centre where you can do all of your weekly shopping and enjoy a latte with people going by that you know. We have a great mix of people, its a very progressive suburb. It is an easy drive into the countryside to enjoy vineyards or the yarra river and an equally easy commute to the city.

"Monty, Town in the City"

Montmorency is like living in a small town, just with the convience of a large city next door. Were Street has awesome cafe's, pet shop, clothes shop, take away's, supermarket, butchers, deli, travel agent, accountant, dentist and hair dressers galore to mention a few of the traders packed into one street. At the bottom of the street is the train and around the corner are the schools.
Being an Ex country dweller this is the perfect city address.

"Country feel in the city"

I live amongst a canopy of green trees on a hill tucked in a quiet street that only people whom live in the street know it. (Gordon Grove) Close to cafe and shops and a great feel of "connection" which is lost in the "URBAN SPRAWL" A uniqule stylish, with a chic feel. To think that I bought in Monty 6 years ago because I could not afford Doncaster. I would not buy in Doncaster if i had all the money in the world.

Calm down buddy, Doncaster is the better suburb. Don't get all high and mighty because you didn't have enough money.

"Quiet and out of the way, yet still right near everything"

Montmorency seems to be a suburb many people just drive right by and never notice. The good thing about that is that it's quite often peaceful and quiet. On the other side though, theres plenty of schools nearby, post office and great fresh shops near the very safe station plus it's only a 5 minute drive to Greensborough Plaza or a 10 minute drive to Doncaster Shopping Town. Very affordable and relaxing place to live.

"A rare jewel of a township, tucked away from the busy streets"

I occassionally visit 'Monty', which I would know about except for a resident friend whom I meet for coffees in the middle of town (many great cafes by the way). I'm only aware of two suburbs which have the shopping strip located away from the busy streets so that only the locals know about it. And that Montmorency and Brighton. The view down to the leafy train station is splendid.

""Monty' - the only place to live!"

I'm from Oakleigh originally and when given a choice by my new husband to stay in Monty or sell and move more over my side of town I chose Monty! It was the best decision I ever made, the community feel, location to shops, kinders and schools and the best friends I have made through the Kinder and School. My husband has grown up in Monty and I have never regretted settling here. Even if I won Tatts I wouldn't move!

"A great-value suburb that is experiencing a resurgence of new families"

Monty is a relatively small suburb, and the main shopping street (Were St) is tucked away from general traffic. It's hilly, green, and generally has mainly a post-WW2 to 80's housing stock. There is a substantial amount of development going on, but most is relatively sympathetic to the surrounds. The primary schools and preschools are good. It takes about 45 min to get to the city on the train. There seem to be lots of new families moving into the area - as older families downsize.
