Food makes up a huge part of living decisions. With people embracing food more in Australia than ever before, picking a house with a good array of cafes and restaurants to pick is essential. With the help of great sites like Urbanspoon you are bound to find some good restaurants, but today, we present what 500,000 + ratings and review from people have voted as the “Foodie Suburbs” – The places that go to the next level because of their fabulous restaurants on offer.

Victoria

Melbourne: Foodie suburbs; South Yarra, Southbank, Richmond

South Yarra: South Yarra has been a good mix of formal and informal dining options for a long time. With the exploding casual eating scene, South Yarra has been able to keep up with the additions of restaurants like Miss Chu and Pinocchio’s. Both are modern twists on their cuisines and in the middle bracket price range. Places to check out are:

  • Miss Chu (Casual Vietnamese)
  • Pinocchio’s (Casual Italian)
  • Two Birds One Stone (cafe)
  • France-Soir (Formal Dining)

Southbank: Southbank may get underrated and overlooked because people pick the city over it. However, with its positioning by the Yarra, there are some great restaurants here. It provides a little more nightlife than the CBD and is a big hit over summer for people looking to get out of the office or dine after work. Places to check out are:

  • Rockpool (Formal dining with great steaks)
  • The Meat & Wine Co (Great meat offerings)
  • The Bond Store (A great cafe to fill you up)

PS The Fat Duck is coming here, need we say more!?

Richmond: Richmond provides the best in urban eating. Without the pretentiousness of formal dining, Richmond offers some of the coolest dining options that the city has to offer. With a mix of cuisines and set ups, Richmond caters to the chic and also the upper class with taste sensations you couldn’t imagine. Places to check out are:

  • Kong (A great take on Korean with fantastic service)
  • Fonda Mexican (Something a little more casual but a great vibe!)
  • Friends of Mine (One of the best breakfasts you’ll ever have, especially after a big night!)
  • Pho Chu The (One of the reasons Richmond is great, some amazing Vietnamese food at sensationally low prices)

New South Wales

Concord: Concord has great reviews from the locals with its peaceful vibe and great offerings. One of the drawcards has been its amazing restaurants on offer, with a perfect mix of green surroundings to dine outside, and more traditional restaurants, Concord has it all. Places to check out are:

  • Venky’s Fine Indian Restaurant
  • Provence by Antoine (French inspired food)
  • Basil N Black Pepper (A little loud music but worth a try!)

Cabramatta: Cabramatta brings a great feel of Asian cuisine to this beautiful suburb. It’s been known as the suburb where $10 goes a long way to keeping you full, with an array of different dining options. A great array of people make up this diverse suburb! Places to check out are:

  • Pho Tau Bay ( For a great take on classic Pho)
  • Pho Viet Restaurant (A great place for a quick meal and cheap to not break the bank!)
  • Phu Quoc (Still on the Vietnamese, a great idea if you’re happy to get your hands dirty)

Woolloomooloo: Experiencing a little resurgence due to the new eating options, this is a great suburb to look at living if you’re really in to your food. Featuring some of Sydney’s best options and in a central location to everything in Sydney, this is definitely worth popping by for a few eats. Places to check out are:

  • China Doll (Some of the tastiest food in Sydney. Not known for their service but they are for their food)
  • Kingsley’s Steak and Crabhouse (A competitor for Sydney’s best Steak, you can’t go too wrong here)
  • Puntino Trattoria (Arguably Sydney’s best pizza, traditional and fresh)

The west has some good options Rachel. Check out Common Galaxia for a great coffee! Also Crowded house do some really good breakfasts, but they can get a little busy on weekends, so prepare to wait a bit!

Can’t wait for The Fat Duck!! Great options for over in Richmond and South Yarra. I love all of those places. Do you have any suggestions in the west?

Can’t go past Miss Chu. Love the Vietnamese there. Also worth trying Aangan in Footscray, Footscray has become a foodie suburb!
