"Home"

We moved to Oak Park in August 2017 from Brunswick West, only 10mins North of Brunswick.
Friendly neighbors, Quiet streets, easy/close access to freeway, 10 min walk to train station, bus stop 2 min walk, 15 min walk to Pascoe Vale Cafes and pub.
3 primary schools all in 5 min walking distant.
a great cafe is also 5 min walk.
Big blocks of land if you can get in before investors.. Townhouses are going up everywhere!
We love Oak Park.

"Oak Park vibe"

We moved to Oak Park from North Melbourne in December 2015. Oak Park is a quiet, pleasant family-oriented suburb. The suburb has a few different zones. West of Pascoe Vale Road tends to have bigger blocks and single dwellings. The zoning in this part of the suburb makes it harder for developers to build town houses. The south-east corner east of Pascoe Vale Road and around Devon Road tends to have smaller blocks, more townhouses going up all the time and more rental properties. The north-east corner close to Northern Golf Course has bigger blocks and more single dwellings than the south-east corner. The original housing stock is mostly 1960s and 1970s family homes, roughly half of them weatherboard and half of them brick. There is a long belt of parkland along the western edge, including a big public swimming pool on Pascoe Vale Road which the Council is planning to redevelop. There isn't much in the way of shopping, although Snell Grove (near the train station) has all the basics - bank, post office, supermarket, fish and chips. There is no nightlife to speak of, not even a pub. The little shopping strip on Winifred Street on the western side of the suburb has the area's first hipster café, called Frances Winifred. It is excellent - great coffee, great food. Childcare was surprisingly easy to arrange (a big shock for us after the long struggle to get places in North Melbourne) and people speak highly of the local primary schools (one state, one Catholic). Transport is very good. Pascoe Vale Road has easy access to the Tullamarine Freeway. The train station is on the Craigieburn line, which has services about every six minutes in peak hour. The train takes about 30 minutes to the CBD, and you can even get a seat in peak hour. All in all we're very happy we bought here, and I suspect property prices are only going to rise as more people discover it.

Great for

  • Great commumity spirit
  • Quality well established homes on large blocks
  • Well maintanied parklands, open spaces + bike track
  • Close to public transport and access to the freeways
  • Walking tracks and ovals.

Not great for

  • No secondary school closest Strath or Glenroy

"Perfect for new families"

Oak Park has everything we needed in a home. Close enough to any and all shopping, hospitals, transport, parks, ovals, walking tracks, public transport and everybody is so friendly.

It has been great to start raising our family in and it still has that neighbourly feel, with plenty of community activities to have the kids and me and my husband join in.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone that asked :D

"Perfect for Australian families"

Having lived in Oak Park for 36 Years I have seen many changes. A major positive of Oak Park is the well maintained parklands, abundent open spaces and user friendly bike tracks. Local primary school welcomes parent involvement and has first class facilities. The homes are mostly well established better quality homes on larger blocks. Many homes have undergone renovation to keep pace with todays expected standards. Fantastic community involvement for families wishing to enjoy a great Australian way of life.

""Location, Location, Location""

As a resident for 17 years, I've enjoyed living in Oak Park for it is a lovely place to raise a family. We enjoy all the lovely park land & bike tracks that surround us. The people are very friendly & there is always a community event to support & enjoy. We are close to major freeways for work, we are zone 1 for public transport, close to many quality places to dine out then afterwards return to our quiet homes & streets. All in all, it's a small friendly place to live where you can get to anywhere quickly, then return to a peaceful lifestyle at an affordable price. However, the secrets getting out & prices are booming.

"Small suburb."

Oak Park is your very small suburb where everybody knows each other. Houses with bigger plots of land are sold like hot cakes these days , BUT to be flattened and units are built,. It is sad to see all these units are built to an average standard and are more for the rental market. I have been living here for more than 10 years. It is nice to live here, neighbours know each other quite well but not so great for nightlife and entertainment. Overall Oak Park is a nice suburb.

"Nice place to rent"

It is nice to live here if you are renting. I have been renting here for almost 10 years but when buying here, I would hav esecond thoughts. although prices has increased recently, but there are no good schools around especially secondary schools. Streets in Oak Park has far bit of vandalism and graffiti, and especially at night you can hear hoons and screeches along the road. Overall, I like oak Park but not investing here.

"Perfect place to live"

Great access to city through trains or citylink with only one toll point.

Greate access for retail shopping to strathmore DFO or grocery shopping to Glenroy.

Live in Oak park for over 10 years and witness the property boom in the area. with only 11 km to city and similar price to suburbs with 20 km distance to city on the east side. No wonder more people are buying here.

"Great Location close to the city"

This is a great suburb which is close to the city and zone 1 for train travel. I lived there with my Grandma for a year and loved it. We had a great big block in a quiet leafy street with views to the city. After that, I rented a unit, which was great for travel in to university. The snell grove shopping centre was convenient for small items with larger shopping centres being just a few minutes drive away. The neighbour were always friendly. Prices seem to be going through the roof there at the moment with a lot of blocks being snapped up for sub division because of the great location.
