Do you hear the freight trains at night in Point Clare? How often do they run?
Point Clare, NSW 2250 is located within the Gosford local government area, part of the Sydney (Greater) Region in New South Wales.

There is some noise depending on where exactly you live in the area but in my opinion nothing compared to living anywhere within 10 km radius of Sydney airport for aircraft noise or along any railway line suburbs in Sydney. One of the many upsides to Point Clare is a great waterside suburb with a number of nearby railway stations and close to the M1. Imagine a house on a quarter acre block in a harbor side suburb with a railway station such as Kirribilli what would you expect to pay? Depending where you buy at At Point Clare you could find a really nice home from about $600-700K with potentially great views over Brisbane Water.
I am in 15 Kurrawa Avenue and I can tell you the freight trains run several times a day and night and the noise is horrendous. The traffic is only increasing. Wearing ear plugs helps a little. There has been complaints to Parliament as the noise reachesd 90 decibels but nothing has been done.
update government gave eligible properties noise attenuation modifications including double glazing. There were conditions. such as 7 years ownership... Although entitled ,the owner of my place didnt bother to apply.. $30,000 worth of free modifications and adding value to property.. Hard to understand. .
Hi Claire, we are planning to move from Sydney to 1/ 15 kurrawa av, on a rental property. The inspection is due upcoming weekend and we were planning to put the application for the property after the inspection, but just realised the train line is very close to the property. That's when I searched online and found this thread on the issue in point Clare. The property manager says the unit 1 has the double glazed windows and doors, do you think that would be sufficient enough to block the noise of trains ? Or will reduce the impact if not block it completely? (We got 2 little kids, 1 year old and 4 year old). Kindly suggest if the double glazed window and doors are enough remedy? as you are living the area already. Waiting for your response. Thanks in advance.
I think Unit 1/ 15 Kurrawa avenue sits on the waterside of the block of townhouses so IMO the noise should sound a bit more muffled. My wife and I have been living in the area for many years and it's been terrific. We've been accustomed to hearing freight trains but nothing like being in an inner Sydney suburb and aircraft noise. You not only have a station that you can use but Aldi and nearby shops. The area is a little gem.
Thanks for the prompt response. Unit 1 is actually the first from the kurrawa av, and the property manager says the unit got double glazed window and doors installed. We are going to inspect the property this Saturday morning, I hope some train would pass by that time so we could experience inside the unit about how it feels. I am only concerned about our little ones, otherwise I'm absolutely excited about this property already. Thanks for your response mate
Not from Sunnyside Av we don't!
I lived across the road from the tracks a little further down- and I heard them ALL NIGHT LONG. Passenger trains were barely noticeable. There was one freight in particular that used to come through at just before 2am. If you're a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend.
Coral Tree Place , Point Clare really peaceful area for living . Friendly neighbor . No through road . Close to M1 , train station (NO NOISE from the train ) , School , Park , Coles , Restaurants , Bunnings , BCF , and Office work etc. Close to the water . We really happy we paid extra 20k for the property . Worth it ...
Hi Claire, This is really useful info, thanks for posting. we were thinking of buying near there. Do you think wed get used to it, would double glazing help... or should we look elsewhere?
