Reviews of Queens Park, WA

"Up and coming suburb"

Queens park is an area that does not get enough publicity. As affordable land and houses closer to Perth city become rarer, this suburb will really start to shine in the next few years. In the past year I've seen roads resurfaced, roundabouts cleaned up, footpaths placed and new housing developments pop up. It's good to see older derelict homes getting knocked down.

Times are changing. A younger, diverse and more professional demographic are purchasing homes in the area and quickly gentrifying the bad reputation it once had as a "shady" suburb. 10km from the city with direct access to major arteries and a train line plus a shopping centre that's getting a 235 million dollar upgrade means this is a place to keep an eye on.

Queens Park is mainly houses and parks so it means you'll have to make a trip to Victoria park or Cannington for eating out. There are no clubs or pubs which is bonus or negative depending on who you are. I think the area could use a cafe strip near the train station and there's potential for it too, but for now Victoria Park is closest place for a coffee.

Planes have been mentioned a lot here and it's worth noting that since 2015 Perth Airport changed it's flight path strategy to reduce the frequency of planes flying over the suburb. If you live in a newer double brick house with insulation and modern windows, the planes do not disturb you.

Getting to work in the city is good and you have a selection of three roads to use. For those who FIFO, the airport is near.

Great for

  • Close to the city and Victoria Park via roads and train
  • New houses attracting young professional and young family residents
  • Close to the Airport
  • Nearness to shopping eg. Westfield Carousel
  • Close to transport
  • Multicultural

Not great for

  • No trendy cafe strip.

"Well Located, Affordable Suburb"

Queens Park is definitely a changed suburb of years gone past. The Quattro development has massively overhauled the image and presentation of the suburb, with some stunning homes and estate style living.

The air craft noise seems to be an issue with most people, but when you are living 10kms from the city, with great access and great facilities and amenities, it presents an unbelievable value for money. With the rental market being really strong, it makes great for first home buyers, investors and renters all looking for their piece of the pie close to the city for an affordable price.

The transport facilities are great, with Queens Park Train Station, Cannington Train Station and numerous bus routes to and from the city and around Carousel making the suburb super accessible. As with a lot of night time public transport, I would personally avoid Busses & Trains at night, and take the safer option of a cab or driving to avoid any trouble makers - as sad as that is, I would rather not have to deal with any confrontations.

Overall I believe the people I have helped to buy and sell property in Queens Park, in that it is safe, family oriented suburb great for first home buyers, renters and investors - especially those trying to stick to a particular budget, but also wanting great facilities and accessibility to the city or airport.

Great for

  • Near the city.. accesible thru Albany highway, Welshpool road, etc
  • Close to transport
  • Nearness to shopping eg. Westfield Carousel
  • Multicultural
  • Up and coming suburb due to that development in Quattro.

Not great for

  • Airplane noise as it may disturb you at times.

"Very under rated suburb"

Moved here a couple years ago. Would never have thought about doing so 10 years ago given the area's reputation, but got to know the area a few years back when a friend was renting here. Queens Park now is in redevelopment phase with many new homes being built. Most of the housing commission places are gone along with the old Coronation Hotel and the trouble that went with it. It is now mostly a peaceful and serene suburb with many multicultural and decent young families. Great public transport and road access. The main downside as others have commented is the plane noise, though it is not as bad as some make out and it really depends on where in Queens Park you live. Apart from that it is a very quiet suburb with lots of green areas. This is one of the few suburbs in Perth that has consistently risen in property value since 2008, which must say something. It is also one of the few suburbs left where you can purchase a home 10kms from the city with a reasonable sized block for under $500k.

Great for

  • Up and coming suburb due to urban renewal
  • Near the city.. accesible thru Albany highway, Welshpool road, etc
  • Close to transport
  • Nearness to shopping eg. Westfield Carousel
  • Multicultural

Not great for

  • Airplane noise as it may disturb you at times.

Earplug land! Imagine rumbling aircraft noise every 5 minutes... Planes flying so low above the houses. Please read other reviews for Queens Park that are available in the web so you wouldn't risk regretting that you bought one here.

Rentals in Queens Park

"Everything under on roof"

This is an affordable place to live in with close distance to the city. The new recreation center will certainly a new add-on to this suburb. 5 mins to Carousel shopping center, 10 mins to Victoria Park and 10mins to Belmont shopping center. The only main thing to let it down is the airplane noise. We have been recommended to put glazing windows by the builder and that's what we did. We hardly heard any noise with the glazing window.

Agree with you Ken, definitely an affordable place to live, and with the developments going on in the area it is definitely improving. All amenities are close, with great access to Carousel, Vic Park Cafe/Restaurant Strip, Belmont & even Freo straight up Leach Hwy. Airplane noise can be a downer, but many people do get used to it and dont see it as much of an issue. Great review!

"Moving"

So near the city and near Carousel for your shopping needs. Airplane noise - disturbing to us that's why we are moving out.. Totally can't stand the loud humming sound and we don't love airplanes... As of this writing, thursday night they pass by every 5 minutes starting at about 7:30pm and it's already 9:30pm! You can't even relax and just have one hour of uninterrupted quiteness at home.

"Close to everything"

I have been living in this area for more than 7 years. This place is close to the city with public transport and big shopping centre. The new recreation centre in Cannington will certainly increase the house value for this area. The only cons is the aircraft noise but you won't notice it anymore after a while.

Great for

  • Near the city.. accesible thru Albany highway, Welshpool road, etc
  • Close to transport
  • Multicultural
  • Nearness to shopping eg. Westfield Carousel

"Up and coming area, close to everything!"

All in all, I love Queens Park. It's mostly quiet, apart from the occasional bogan straggler, that think they own the street.

I must warn though, that if you're particularly pedantic and anal about aircraft noise, then this may not be the suburb for you, hence some of the reviews! I myself, have grown up with a passion for planes, so I often (when I even notice the noise, that is) go outside to see what airline it is. It has become quite a family 'thing' haha. Most of the time though, I don't even notice the planes going over, as we're not as close as most think and the noise is not at all offensive. I would rather that than traffic noise anyday, believe me, having lived on a busy road prior! If you don't mind slight rumbling (that you won't even hear after a while) or are not suffering with terrible nerve problems, then you won't find the aircraft noisy, or worrisome at all!!

The things I love about Queens Park, are its multiculturalism, access to ample transport, its closeness to shopping...in particular Westfield Carousel, its amount of lovely parks and ovals, the Quattro subdivision, its relatively quiet streets.

The comment about traffic being worse than airplane noise is so true. I'd rather hear a plane go over once every few hours than have cars beeping and hooning down the street all day.

Wow!! I don't know what street you live in, but I live in Donaldson Street and I barely hear the planes at all! How about, instead of making your nerves worse stressing about it and trying to turn people off an area that is pretty great, take an interest in the planes...they're amazing things to watch! I've lived here over 3 years now, but have always lived within close proximity to the airport. Double brick and tile, with normal insulation is just fine! Double glazed windows??? Really??? No offence, but that seems like a slight overreaction to something that doesn't warrant a rating on the Richter Scale.

I am building on wharf street close to the centre street, I have noticed it sometimes but not all times. Don't know how it is going to be these days, lived in mills street about 10 years ago and loved it. (Except the plan that flys by at 4am ).My builder have recommended double glazed windows but its costly. Thinking of taking up their advice.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe these reviews lol. Heaps of earplugs? They're not needed, as the aircraft noise is but a rumble and is barely audible most times. It has never affected my, or my family's sleep. I just can't understand all this overreaction to something so minor! We lived for many years on a busy street, with trucks, semi-trailers, buses...the lot! I detested that, as it was constant, offensive and it disturbed all of our sleep! We couldn't afford to go anywhere else, until this house came up at a great price here in Queens Park. Quiet streets, families, multicultural...with the occasional slight rumble of a plane. Bliss!!

Maybe take an interest in the planes...they are fascinating! Or de-stress some other way, as nothing needs to be done about the 'noise' at present!
