"Great quality of life 10kms from the city."

We moved here from Teneriffe to raise a family... haven't looked back. We have a manageable mortgage on a house (with a yard!) near the Russ Hall Park and are thrilled with the area. People are down-to-earth and friendly; there's gym equipment in the local park; if you follow it through, there's a little strip of shops with a Dr., small supermarket, a cafe with great coffee and croissants, and a pizza place opening soon. You can take the kids to the park across the road, or friends for a "Barefoot Bowls" next door.

Salisbury is bordered by four main roads, but is remarkably quiet. The roads are wide and the architecture varies; alot of gorgeous old workers' cottages and more modern homes, with more units going in. There are two C and K Kindis, which offer excellent programmes. The local school is good, as is the local Catholic school.

Public transport is excellent - Express train from Salisbury Station is around 25 minutes, the bus stop is so close we were able to sell the second car, and the city is easy to get to if you go through Tarragindi to the freeway. The Gold Coast is less than an hour away and great for weekend getaways; theme parks around 45 minutes.

There's a supermarket at Moorooka, and the African cuisine along the Beaudesert Rd. strip is excellent. There's another good-value supermarket on Orange Grove Rd., and the Rocklea markets are excellent value for a grocery shop on Saturday morning, but one of the things I love about Salisbury is that there are no big developments within it. Garden City and Indooroopilly are about 15 minutes away.

Great for

  • Ainsworth Street cute shops!
  • Good proximity to city and freeways
  • Neighbourhood spirit
  • Quiet
  • Close to public transport train and bus
  • Good proximity to shopping centres/shops

It IS a FANTASTIC suburb. Come along to The Rally at Nyanda Salisbury High tomorrow Saturday 18th 11am-1pm for a free sausage sizzle & to sign the petition against the high schools closure. Also Monday 20th May is the community consultation meeting for Urban Development at 5 - 6.30pm at the school. It effects the entire community.

"A fantastic suburb"

Bought in Salisbury in 2020 and very lucky to have got in. Great location and access to the CBD whilst feeling a little tucked away behind Toohey Forest. Has everything you need and is in close proximity to good infrastructure i.e., shops, grocery stores, medical centres, schools (public and private), Griffith uni - ranked in the top 2 percent globally, as well as hospital, gyms, cafes, a major Westfield, ballistic brewing co, and more! It’s also a stones throw away from Graceville to the left, Holland Park to the right, Sunnybank to the south, and soon to be finished Yeerongpilly Green riverside precinct to the north. Should experience some more uplift & connectivity with the train station being completely rebuilt as part of the major Cross River Rail project. Can feel a bit industrial in certain parts but this could easily be offset with more trendy eateries, and studios/spaces for local businesses to flourish in. Could use a bit of a facelift to its parks and local shopping villages to make it even more appealing. Only regret is that we didn’t buy here earlier. A fantastic suburb with huge potential.

"Not very pleasant"

Driving through these streets aren’t very pleasant. There is a high rate of crime with rebellious Youth. People have a lot of junk in their yards and houses aren’t modern. Besides a sketchy appearance, Salisbury is generally quiet. I’m quite shocked to see a 9.1 rating!

"Everything you need in a burb’"

Just moved here and love it so far. Two cafes (one very new offering specialty coffee, single origin filter, brunch etc) craft brewery/bar, Aldi, parks, green space, antique shops, public transport and wide pretty streets. Also Toohey forest/ Nathan Campus is is within walking distance if you want to go bushwalking through some beautiful tracks.

Salisbury Station is getting an upgrade in the next 12 months as well apparently with direct connection into Woolloongabba via the cross river rail project.

"Great little suburb with great connections to city"

We recently knock down and rebult in Salisbury. We love it so far. Close to the city, great bushland to walk in, great near by schools. Next to sunnybank so lots of different asian resturants to try and a great brewery to boot. Theres buses every 15 mins from orange grove road to the city as well as a train station. Great investment and in the future its only going to get better. We will be happily raising our family here. Get in while you can :)

"James Kanofski"

I moved to salisbury about 6 months ago and It's the worst suburb i have ever lived in, the crime rate is up very high, and the local police aren't very helpful either, i can't wait to move back to ipswich, cause everyone is nice and easy going out, but nearly everyone is very rude and disrespectful around salisbury cause when I say hi or how's it going to the locals in salisbury they give you a very ugly look and some people will tell you to f off, so shame on you people in salisbury you people need to learn some manners and respect.

Recently moved from Salisbury to Wynnum West and greatly regret it.

Salisbury is quiet, clean with a great neighbourly spirit. Really underappreciated cafes and restaurants.

Pity about the troll accounts on here, seems to be people jealous of Salisbury and just trying to increase the ranking of their own suburbs.

"Hidden Paradise Emerging"

Just moved here from Greenslopes.

Very quiet neighborly community with a mix of large Queenslander blocks and newer modern houses.

Close to the city with many commuting options including trains and multiple bus routes, and easy access to main roads into the city.

Close to Sunnybank and Rocklea markets for great shopping and food. But lots of new cafes are opening up too in Salisbury itself.

Nestled amongst good schools and easy access to universities.

Affordable house prices at the moment especially being so close to the city, transport options and nice large sized family blocks. But the house prices are on the rise.

Overall an excellent suburb.

"Perfection."

I'm biased, I've lived here for most of my life. Salisbury has everything you need close at hand and the rest is minutes away in Sunnybank and Mt Gravatt. New cafes are opening up, including a great new Vietnamese place in Lillian Ave, the Salisbury hotel has good reasonably priced food, a liquor barn and trivia nights. Anytime Fitness is across the road as well as indoor netball and cricket. Two GP practices, Pathology, Chemist and Physio and a Vet. Regis low and high care nursing home, Baptist and Catholic Churches, kindy, primary and soon high school. Great public transport to the city, either by train or bus and Griffith University and QE2 hospital are just next door. I adore it.

"Salisbury is a charm"

Agree with other previous five star reviews, Salisbury is a great suburb. Have been here for 1.5 years now and really happy. Our neighbours are friendly, and there is an interesting mixture of old original houses, old houses being redone, as well as new homes. I disagree with the low score on fitness, there are always people with families and/or dogs out walking or running, and majority of the streets seem to have good footpaths. There is an indoor sports centre as well as Bikram Yoga in the area. A personal training centre opened near the local Bowls Club, and there are plenty of parks around + homes have decent sized backyards for kids. The local train station has just been repainted this year (2013) and now looks quite cute. We use Garden City shopping centre for clothes shopping or movies. Salisbury has plenty of options for meals, but it's not what I'd term as a glam restaurant area. Close to other restaurant suburbs though. If you wish for a few drinks over dinner, Southbank is only 20mins or so via train, and the city about 30mins via train. I'm glad that there is no nightlife here, but The Valley is only a train ride or $35-$40 taxi cab ride away (approximately). Moving to Salisbury has enabled us to get the best out of what South East QLD has to offer.

"Friendly Salisbury"

We have recently moved into the area and are loving it. There is a lovely neighbourhood spirit where everyone says hi and there are always lots of people going for walks with children and/or dogs.. The group of shops includes a cafe, a very well stocked convenience store, fish and chip shop, a gym, a bakery, barber, doctors, a nail shop, a second hand book shop. The bowls club is across the road and a park for the kids. BCC Tennis courts at the school can be hired as well. Across the creek there is a basketball hoop and some gym equipment. There is a mix of older homes, newer homes and lots of new houses being built.

ALDI, Hungry Jacks, Pizza Hut, Noodle box is only about 1 km away. There is also a petrol station, First choice liquor, McDonald's, Urban Burger, ATM, is very close. There are a number of outlet stores to check out as well. Transport options are good with the trains and buses and its only 10kms from the CBD so doesn't take very long if you are driving.

I think Salisbury is a lovely neighbourhood!

"Quiet suburb but close to other places"

We moved here 18 months ago from inner city Prahran, Melbourne, so it's quite different even though it's the same distance from town. Loving the 10 min drive to the CBD, loving that you can park in town for less than the cost of public transport (if you know where) , and loving Apples, the cafe down the road - our own very small piece of Chapel St. Not loving getting broken into for the first time ever last year, and our neighbours having a break-in this week. Otherwise, there's a few good parks, public transport is good even if it takes the long way into town (40 mins), the Aldi supermarket is better than a few Aldis I've been to up here, and I hear schools in the area are decent. People are friendly and there's not really any of that noisy inner city living to deal with - haven't had a loud party keep us awake yet. Train station is not pram or wheelchair friendly - need to go to Yerongpilly.

Great for

  • Apples on Ainsworth
  • Quiet
  • Good proximity to city and freeways
  • Close to public transport train and bus

Not great for

  • Public transport takes long route into town

"A little country town in the 'burbs"

I previously had a short stint in Salisbury where I basically went from work to home to work. I then ventured back almost 2 years ago and love it! Whilst I don't have any offspring myself, there are plenty around and they and their parental units always have a smile on their face while they walk the family dog or play at one of the local parks.

While Salisbury isn't the most modern and forefront suburbs, its not stuck in the 70's either. There are two sets of shops, both with a convenience store. Theres also a vet, two real estates, a cute vintage cafe, post office, bakery, nail salon, 2 barbers, 2nd hand book shop, newsagent, 2 take away shops, computer repair shop and a new fruit & veg/deli opening soon. Theres also the local bowls club which is where you'll find all the locals on a Friday night.

There are many different walks of life in Salisbury - singles, students, retirees, DINKS, newlyweds and families. And pretty much everyone is welcome.

"Ahhhh Salisbury....."

Where does one begin??? I moved here 13 months ago from a share house in Beenleigh. At first I found the low crime rate and lack of brothels a bit weird and had trouble sleeping at night. I soon worked out the differance between a possum on the roof and a crackhead at your door... The neighbours were more than welcoming and although I was not presented with a basket of muffins upon my arrival, I soon found qualities from all corners of the fence line. The blocks are big and the hearts are huge. I was taking a walk just the other day and I commented to my wife how it has a charm that reflects a simpler time. Families talking, BBQ's cooking and the smell of fresh cut lawn that only proves the pride of the community and its garden care. "The best travel options are from Salisbury"

Last week I drove to a friend's house warming party who recently bought 9km north of the Brisbane CBD. From the CBD centre to his house via all the traffic lights we had to negotiate, It took 30 minutes to drive. In contrast, I live just east of Orange Grove Road near Tooheys Forest, also 9km south from Brisbane CBD. It took me 10 minutes to jump on the freeway and direct to the CBD. The 30min to 10min drive comparison over the same distance was a sweet reminder why Salisbury is a great suburb to live in. It is not only the convenient and fast travel options (excellent busway, bus stops and rail) but this neighbourhood is a hidden gem. The streets are unbelievably quiet, the neighbours are private yet friendly, there are shopping centres, hospitals, schools and childcare all within a 5 minute drive. Furthermore, we were unaffected by the floods and we are never bothered by any flight noise or heavy freight rail noise. I love living in Salisbury.

Great for

"Hidden Treasure"

Salisbury is an unknown treasure so close to the city. It has excellent accessibility to public transport and it is easy to get to the gold coast in just 50mins. Salisbury is a charming suburb with great opportunity for couples and young families to enter the real estate market and gain a reasonable home with a decent sized block of land. There are excellent parks and recreational areas within and around the suburb. Even though there is industrial ares near by the suburb remains quiet. The locals say hello when you pass them in the morning and our neighbours have been friendly and engaging since we moved to the suburb 3 and half years ago. We wouldn't live anywhere else.

"Wonderful place to live!"

We purchased our first home in Salisbury 12 months ago and couldn't have asked for a better place to live. The community spirit in our street is amazing and we frequently have get-togethers with residents from several streets as everyone knows everyone. Salisbury is nice and quiet and has good public transport and accessibility. The lack of through-traffic is excellent. The suburb is undergoing gentrification with subdivision and development and many houses are undergoing renovation. Salisbury isn't shopping heaven, but has two supermarkets, lots of takeaway outlets and a gorgeous little fruit shop down by the post office. Sunnybank is just down the road for delicious dinners while Mt Gravatt is probably the closest for clothes etc. Salisbury has the advantage of being elevated out of the reach of floodwaters but Rocklea market is a short drive away for Saturday shopping. We think we have chosen a really nice place to live and look forward to raising our family here.

"Untouched serenity..."

Having moved to Brisbane from Melbourne a year ago, I really wasnt too familiar with the suburbs at all. Living in the Valley for a year was definitely an experience, but my partner and I decided to move to somewhere a little more open.

We were looking at areas around Mt Gravatt, we fell in love with the area, until one day we accidentally stumbled upon Salisbury. We instantly enjoyed the feel of Salisbury a lot more than the Gravatt area, as (in our opinion), it's far more green and open, and most houses in the area are absolutely surrounded in forest area.

It IS industrial, but we've had tips from developers and architects in the area that these areas are diminishing and should be replaced by residential.

Overall if you're after an open quiet hidden environment, with heaps of green, Salisbury is for you!

"a village in a big city"

Salisbury is within the 9km ring, with lots of local ammenities, local state schools aswell as two private schools. It has excellent parks and walk ways even a dog park. We have two strips of local shops aswell as close proximity to Aldi

"Hidden Pocket"

We moved from our townhouse in Camphill to our first house in Chalfont St 2 years ago.

Without knowing a great deal about the area we where a bit nervous about all the industrial areas to the West and North and the potential for a lot of traffic being generated by those industries (along both sides of Evans Road) but after a very short time where very surprised by actually how quiet and traffic free it is even on week days, most of the businesses close in the evenings and weekend the same as any other suburb.
We are relatively high and have a high set house which gives us sprawling Westerly views as well as Tooheys Forrest to the East, and is enjoyable to sit outside in the back yard or the front deck with a cold beer and enjoy the serenity

The surrounding area is, is leafy green (with the exception of the industrial areas) with several parks and ovals, Tooheys forest, reasonable street scaping and even a dog park. Getting around is easy with the M1 about 5 to 10 mins drive (it takes us about 10 to 15 mins to drive into the city – not peak hour traffic) Ipswich road about 10 mins away and Beaudesert road 5 mins away, Salisbury train station and various buses there is no trouble getting where you need to go.

Shopping isn’t bad, there are several local of shops, one group sort of centrally located opposite the bowls club and parkland within walking distance of anyone living west of orange Grove road and another group on Lillian avenue. At the junction of Tooheys road and Orange Grove road you have the Salisbury Hotel, a café, Subway and a Food works, with the closest Woolworths or Coles either at Annerley which is fast turning into a little multicultural hub, Sunnybank (Brisbane’s new Chinatown with all the food outlets, restaurants, cinemas etc) or Mt Gravatt (very hard to get to from anywhere)

Most of Salisbury is covered with post war houses some great and some not so great, and with a mixed population of elderly, fanilies and young people Salisbury has generally kept the status quo over the previous years however with the increasing number of younger people/families moving into the area and renovating these great old, solid homes (trust me I’ve tried to hammer a nail into a stud several times – they are solid) and some new developments, the area is starting to look the part.
(note: the adjacent industrial areas have almost everything you could want to renovate a house from cabinet makers to plumbers and furniture manufacturers & suppliers to kitchen appliances – a lot of which I will be making use of very soon)

Salisbury is a great pocket of green 10k’s out of the city, relatively unknown and for the most untouched since the 60s
