"Amazing spot to live in Melbourne"

We moved here a few years ago after living in Prahran for 9 years. I thought it would be a hard transition but it wasn’t. We found we have;
Easier and quicker access to the city
Ride our bikes to yarraville, Williamstown beach, north Melbourne, port Melbourne and city (via punt is fun) and can’t wait for veloway. I run at Newport lakes (usually pass 2 people max) and it’s amazing nature with the lakes.
Vernon street, Grazeland. It’s a tiny pocket no one knows about with an amazing community!

Looking for a home in South Kingsville?

"Getting busier everyday"

Recently moved from South Kingsville after living there for 14 years.
It has quite a bit going for it in terms of proximity to the city, good public transport links, shopping and amenities. It's also close to Spotswood, Newport, Yarraville and Williamstown, which have far superior café/dining options. Altona Gate, Borrack Square and Yarraville Coles are the nearest grocery and retail options.
The traffic though the suburb is an ever growing concern and residents from outer suburbs like Altona North, Altona, Altona Meadows and even Point Cook use the local streets as a rat run to avoid the feeder roads in their suburbs which join the congested West Gate Freeway. It makes Hudson Road and The Avenue choked most days if using them after 8AM.
The 2,000 new dwellings being built in the Precinct 15 estate on Blackshaws Road will make this even worse as there appears to be little in the way of public transport improvements and bike paths.
The Vernon Street strip is adequate, but apart from Indian Flames and Motorino, there has been a constant stream of transient cafes and restaurants which struggle to maintain a foothold. It has so much potential but it never lived up to it despite being a cool little strip in 2005 when we arrived.
Our family was happy there, but the traffic, the Precinct 15 development, and limited education options in the west helped us to make a decision to move elsewhere.

"South Kingsville convert!"

We love living in South Kingsville - not many know about it but it really is great. We've got two young kids and its perfect, we live on Paxton St so we've got the park, community centre/kinder at one end of the street and Newport lakes at the other. Quiet, great neighbours. Everyone looks out for each other and most have been there awhile.

Vernon Street has all the basics - milk bar, fish and chips, cafe with playspace, Indian, excellent pizza place (Motorino), art classes for kids, but the thing we love most is Westgate Health Co-op, you join for a small fee and get bulkbilling with great consistent drs, free dental check, skin check etc. So helpful having that service within a walk, esp with little kids.

I walk to and from Spotswood train station to get into the city every day, it's just down the road. As are the increasing number of good cafes (Candied is our favourite), wine bar even! There is a great new coffee bean roaster to grab a coffee from which has opened up on Blackshaws road too. We stop at Altona Fresh for pastries and yummy deli goods on the way back from swimming at Bayfit. If we want to see a movie Yarraville is 5 mins the other way. Willy nearby, the beach, but a bit easier for a family to get into than those places. A terrific little pocket of the inner west.

"Hidden away secret, but close to everything"

It is a real up & coming area. It is a small quiet suburb between Yarraville and Newport, really close to so many things. It is very handy to the CBD. There are good cafes around and some great multicultural shopping options. Several great parks, including Newport Lakes, in the area.

"Best In The West?"

I moved here from South of the City 7 years ago. It has a laid back feel but 15 minutes from the city and under 20 by train. The Vernon Street shops are all friendly and the suburb is 5 minutes from Williamstown and 5 minutes from Yarraville if you are looking for more variety. I love where I live.
