"Stafford an undiscovered gem"

Surprisingly close to everything from choices of shops, schools, hospitals, the city and transport. This makes this suburb so easy to live in and get around. Neighbours are friendly and breezes always cool warm summer days. The area is full of character houses from the 50's, 60's era with some modern ones popping up and still relatively affordable considering your only about 8km from city.

"Robbed 3 times in 2 months"

Do not move near Garde St in Stafford, I have been robbed 3 times in 2 months. They have broken down our door to get in and climbed in windows 4m high. There are pockets of housing commission between Stafford State School and Stafford Rd, they hit up the local houses. Do not buy in this area. We have been driven to move. If you do decide to move into this area, get CCTV.

It is such a shame because our neighbours are absolutely lovely.

I'm so sorry to hear you've had such an awful experience! I live in Stafford Heights also, and love the area... although we are fortunate enough not to have been broken into. We have lovely neighbours and a great little community. There are certainly pockets of housing commission in the suburb, however gradually they seem to be being sold up. The suburb is still really affordable, and has some amazing city views.

"Stafford and Stafford Heights"

I've lived in the area since 2001. I have lived here single with cheap cab rides home from the city and nights out, and now am raising my family here. The local state schools are great and we are very happy with the teachers and small schools. I have never had a bad experience here. No break ins, no muggings, my car has never been stolen. It's got a great community spirit with school fetes and great neighbours. The Stafford. City shopping centre has movies, woolworths and yesterday aldi opened its doors. Great medical facilities with GPs at Stafford. City and the RBH and Prince Charles hospitals nearby. Everton park has a great maternity hospital (Northwest hospital) too. Yes there are public housing pockets but there are also homes over 800,000. It's quite a large suburb and has a bit of everything. Many reno's are happening along with knock downs for rebuilding. There are some gfeat cafes if you know where to look (try bite my biscuit or urbano). restaurants we are lacking but chermside and wilston are close by.

"One of the tougher parts of north brisbane"

choose carefully.

Most of the reviews have been favourable or neutral, interested in why you think this is one of the tougher parts of Brisbane's north? I also hear of pockets within Stafford that arent great, does anyone know where these pockets are, going out on limb here and assuming they are public housing. I say this having grown up in houso's. Looking to move to the area but want to ensure I move to a home and community and not a house in a suburb. Cheers

If I were you I would ignore any reviewer who gives a one line review of a suburb. Indeed, someone who bases their one line review on having only 'visited' the area is unlikely to have a clue about community, amenities, facilities, schools, or really anything particularly helpful at all to a prospective buyer or renter. In addition, any researcher will tell you that someone who gives the same low rating to all questions without any deviation is not paying attention to the questions. It's unlikely that Stafford's schools deserve the lowest possible rating available - if this were true I imagine it would have been on the news. Further, it is unlikely the cost of living in Stafford is so high as to deserve the lowest rating, or that it is an incredibly loud neighbourhood (it's actually quiet), or that it's full of rodents (I think the council would have had something to say about that if it were true) etc etc.

This guy has not given an accurate suburb rating in my opinion and therefore I doubt anyone will find it helpful.

Agreed thanks, I also noticed this reviewer also commented on Ashgrove saying it was perfect. Maybe a vested interest or one bad experience. I am still interested to find out about these so called pockets that are mentioned more than once. I see the area as value for money particually in this market. Have friends in Stafford and their area seems nice enough and have lived on the northside since moving to Brisbane in 2001, compared to Sydney their are no rough area's that I can see.I just dont want to find myself in what is considered locally as one of the bad pockets and thats why i need some guidance. Cheers

Personally, I take more interest in the low rating reviews rather than the slew of 5 star-ers that most suburbs on this site always get. I strongly suspect that most 5 star reviews are from real estate agents trying to spruik sales, so am more likely to believe a low scoring review. And before you ask, I live in the area and know what it is like and happen to agree this is one of the tougher parts of north brisbane! Oh, and to answer the pockets question - yes, it is the housing commission areas (of which there is a large amount in Stafford and a further 96 housing commission houses planned acording to Stirling Hinchcliffe the MP for the area).

budgie69

Oh, and Talbot - you appear to live in Inala, so I don't see you as qualified to comment on Stafford either by your argument...

Hi Budgie, I was commenting on the unhelpfulness of extreme ratings that accompany one liner reviews made by people who can't be bothered to construct a true and useful review. If you read my comment you will see I was referring to the statistical unlikelihood that Stafford would qualify for the extreme rating on cost of living, noise, or presence of rodents - which was what the reviewer had scored for it. I have family who live in Stafford so I am familiar with the area, but of course can only comment as a visitor rather than a resident. Having visited many times I have not ever (not even once) found myself driving through swarms of insects or rodents, deafened by loud noises, or unable to afford to buy groceries due to a high cost of living. Please, as a resident, feel free to correct me if that is your experience.

JohnS5

If you only want positive reviews then only read the 5 stars. Plenty of people will give give stars because they live there and have never had any particularly bad experiences. Personally I live on the border of Stafford and there are plenty of dodgy bits. Sadly it's bit anyways obvious which parts are housing commission... but like another review said, spend a bit of time in the Stafford shopping centre and you'll get an idea of the cross section of humanity involved

Hi everyone. What do you think about Armfield street? We found a comission house on sale and quite liked the street. Does anybody know if it's safe there and around this srea? Thanks

This is one of the better starter suburbs around Brisbane. It is reasonably close to the city, and the schools aren't too bad.

"The Hidden Gem"

I've lived in stafford since 2001 in 3 different streets. All have had good neighbours, been close to parks for fitness or the kids and all have been excellent for resale. Moving from the darkside (south side) I found the ease of getting to the city for work great and only a $20-$25 taxi ride home after a night out in town. Bordered by Gordon Park, The Grange, Alderley and Kedron, there has been heaps of top class renovations and the suburb is realy on the way up with out being overpriced. I highly recommend the suburb to all young families and young couples and like minded professionals as it is central to everything you need without living in your neighbours backyard due to the decent block sizes.

"Lovely area"

I spent some time in Stafford as a young girl. Love visting the local park.. I'm amazed at how much it has changed. But a lot of it is for the better. The people are still friendly, and there is plenty to do in the area. I love the bakery on Webster, it is good to see that Mary's girls are now running it. Wonderful area. Strongly recommended.

"suburb with character"

Stafford has an interesting mix of old and new houses, some absolutely amazing renovations and city views and most blocks are at least 600m2 which is a refreshing change from the tiny blocks some of these new house and land packages offer.
Get in quick - prices continue to rise - so convenient to schools, parks, shops, CBD and airport....great for people with dogs and kids with heaps of parks.
