Glenroy, VIC 3046

I’ve been living in Glenroy since 2020, and the suburb is really improving. Since moving here, I’ve seen a lot of progress in the public spaces. There is a new community hub with a spacious library and playground, as well as new coffee shops around the golf course. Two new dog parks and two upgraded playgrounds have also been added. Housing construction is improving, and it’s said that the shopping area on Wheatsheaf Street will be upgraded soon.

I also enjoy the multicultural community, everyone seems friendly and chatty. It’s a place where I feel a stronger sense of belonging. Still, more needs to be done, which is why I’m giving it four stars.

Love living in the AnA estate. Very friendly and tight knit neighbourly community, largely comprised of young families and couples, with a mix of seniors.

Our pocket is conveniently located with walking distance of both the Oak Park and Glenroy train stations (20 min train to the city) and only 12kms drive (30 mins without tolls and low traffic) from the CBD. We regularly walk to the train station as well as taking the kids to daycare and its a nice easy flat walk, which has never felt unsafe.

We are also lucky to be a short walk from the park area (Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve) and Moonee Ponds Creek Trail. We love the greenery, playgrounds and parklands on offer - which has been great for both our kids and our dog.

While the area is a bit of a quiet and sleepy suburb - that actually suits us perfectly. When we are looking to go out, the surrounding neighbourhoods are only a short drive away with plenty being offered across Brunswick, Coburg, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, and Ascot Vale.

When we moved here a decade ago, it was still on the improvement. It has definitely come a long long way in recent years and will no doubt become the next Pascoe Vale (but better). Love the area, the people, and all the conveniences!

Bought a house last year to the lovely pocket between oak park station and the gold course. So quiet, peaceful and surrounded by lovely neighbours. Smell grove and local shops need an upgrade which will no doubt happen soon. Great little cafes like george jones, spade, Dairy Queen. Nice primary schools and childcare centres around. Cons are only one High school which hopefully improves in the coming years. Area around Cole’s is a bit rough but with the new station being built should improve too. Crossing the rail line from Waterloo road is awful - council need to do something to remove the level crossing.
Other than that, close to the city and still affordable to find your first family home. Lots of young professional couples with kids moving in, including us!

We bought here in Jan 2021 a few streets away from the golf course. The more we get to know it, the more we find it has to offer. It has safe green areas to walk our baby and dog in, cafes popping up, mother and baby groups etc. We’re very happy here.

I’ve lived in Glenroy for 2 years now. I’m a single professional and I chose this suburb as it’s affordable, has a train station within walking distance and is not too far from the city. At the time my other choices were Fawkner and Reservoir. My neighbours are quiet and generally keep to themselves. I haven’t felt unsafe walking the streets or being around the train station at night. One the negatives is the rubbish I see on the street verges that have been blown out from the bins.

Majority of my time has been working from home during the lockdowns. The suburb has all the basic services and amenities you need. During lockdown I rarely left Glenroy as everything is in walking distance. There’s range of grocery stores, restaurants/cafes, pharmacies, bulk bill medical centre, pathology, op shops, bargain stores, barbershop, nail salon, library, etc. I go to RedRock Natural Therapies on Wheatsheaf Rd for remedial massages, Chris is the best! For everything else you need it’s probably in a nearby suburb.

There’s some nice parks around and I really like walking the Moonee Ponds Creek trail. I don’t play sports, but I’ve seen people play social tennis at the club on Melbourne Ave and the Northern Golf Club looks nice for a swing. You wouldn’t expect to see a golf club in an average suburb.
I know there’s a couple primary schools and a high school in Glenroy, but can’t comment as I don’t have kids.

We moved to Glenroy last September and so far it's been great. We have everything at our doorstep - multiple supermarkets, restaurants, library, great shopping options in Westfield Airport West and DFO Essendon and many more. There are many small parks around and the valley area which is closest to our place is pretty and fabulous. It takes less than 30 minutes to reach city by train and also have the convenience of driving into city via either citylink or freeway. Quite a few cafes and restaurants have opened up in last few months which is always a good sign. Also a lot of properties are changing hands recently with an ever increasing median price. We are yet to explore the school situation as yet and hope that Glenroy West and Glenroy Central will be good options. All in all very happy with our move so far.

We recently moved to Glenroy, (Pascoe vale road) and can't believe the value for money and proximity to so many amenities. There is the Pascoe vale Rd Market and shopping strip within 2 mins walk, lots of takeaways, restaurants, and coffee shops. And 2 very big indian grocery stores within 2 minutes walk. There is 2 petrol stations on pascoe vale Rd, we are 2 mins walk to the train station, 5 mins walk to coles, 6 mins walk to glenroy library, 5 mins drive to both broadmeadows central or Westfield in Airport West.
Glenroy is a multicultural, diverse community. The local primary school, Glenroy west is a great school. I love taking my daughter to the Glenroy library after school. Although there is lots of traffic in the area, parking is not usually a problem as the streets are wide and there is plenty of car parks. Most of the homes are built with off-street parking, our apartment was built in 1980, so has ample parking on site, unlike older period apartments in some suburbs built before cars. We find it much better than the overpriced southeast suburbs where we lived previously!

Extensive shops walkable from most parts of Glenroy, zone 1 train station, plenty of places to eat. Level crossing removal over next year or two will ease the only major issue I have with congestion at peak hours. Never had any issues here.

Good

We bought here in 2016 in the ANA estate. This is a suburb in transition, however, it is a long way off still. Where we bought is clearly the better part of Glenroy with access to the Moonee Ponds trail right behind us, a new park down the road (on the way to the aforementioned trail) and what relatively friendly neighbours. The station at Glenroy has great parking and is reasonably short in the distance to the city. On the flip side of that - it doesn't feel safe, in particular around the station precinct. There are a lot of homeless/beggars around Coles and the station. The Hadfield side of the tracks and above the Vline tracks are not places I'd like to be after dark. We prefer to drive the additional 10-15 minutes to go to Coburg North Coles rather than the Glenroy one because A) the quality of the store is better and B) the clientele in Glenroy Coles is just riff-raff (in the main). To put it bluntly, Glenroy will eventually be another story where middle-high income earners price people out of the area (similar to what's happened all over Melbourne), however, it's still a long way off that.
