Maroubra, NSW 2035

Maroubra is located 10 km South of the Sydney CBD, part of the Eastern Suburbs region. It is 15-20 minutes to the CBD in non peak hour. It is a very safe and convenient suburb. Very close to the beach, Eastgardens shopping centre, Bondi, UNSW, Coogee and CBD. I have lived in Maroubra all my life and love it!

I grew up here in the 90s through to the 2000s. Originally a Greek suburb, now has ppl from all over, mainly French, Indonesians, Brazilians, Chinese & Jewish. Socioeconomic background of the population varies too. Junction has students & families. Storey st & surrounds are mansions. Housing commissions are around the beach but surrounding apartments are gentrifying. Always felt safe growing up here. Close to city, Surry Hills, airport, UNSW, schools, beach. Some airport noise though.

5 months there and I left. BEAUTIFUL BEACH .Love the feral foxes and sunsets on rhe beach..Beware of the many public housing tenants on Portland Cres. And parts of Malabar Road. Private residential tenants are nice. Mostly young population... Expensive rentals in the private sectors.

Maroubra, been here for 18 years after moving from Randwick. Timing was perfect, family was growing up .....the beach , parks , coastal walks , 4 golf courses , plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance or a 5 minute drive , close to the airport, the list goes on. If you don’t know much about the area, it’s because the residents want to keep it to themselves ....a bad review is a good review, if you know what I mean.

We lived in Bondi for many years and moved to the Bra in 2018. Best decision we ever made. Maroubra is friendly, has a gorgeous expansive beach and has a super relaxed beachy vibe. There are a multitude of shops everywhere - and you can easily park at all of them! (This is unlike any other eastern suburb and actually reduces a lot of stress) and there’s space everywhere. There is a bit of a dodgy part (stay away from the American-named streets As they are housing commission) but that is just a few streets and the rest of it is families and oldies and young professionals. Transport to the city isn’t bad either (around a 30-45min bus ride depending on where you live). If you’re looking for an eastern suburb where you can relax by the beach and raise a family Maroubra is the go.

Wonder along the coast and have a nice walk, jump in for a swim and have lunch at the FeedBag its a perfect day out for families, couples and singles alike.

Great Beach, open spaces and consistent surf. Fishing is excellent around the area along the beach and rocks. Nice walks along the coast and headlands. Nightlife is not happening so you have to go elsewhere but that is a bonus. Superb Eastern Suburbs bus services into the city and surrounds. POW hospital is close by as is the Football Stadium, Cricket Ground, Centennial Park and Randwick Racecourse to name but a few. Easy access to the airport. Cheaper than Coogee and Randwick for Realty.

When you live at Maroubra, you only leave the area for work or holidays.

I must mention the reported poor reputation of Maroubra re youth and public housing. This has been a problem in the past but over the last few years, a lot of effort has been put into clearing up the mess and this work has paid off. The closure of the hotel at the beach has been a real bonus as well.

I own an apartment on Marine Pde. Have lived in Maroubra since 2005. Love it! The beach is my courtyard. Great during summer but can get quite congested. Beautiful beach which attracts many surfers, local & tourist.
Randwick council does a great job looking after the street and streetscape.
Could do with better shops down by the beach but the currents shops are good. Shop owners are very friendly.
I love Maroubra beach!
