I have lived in Petrie for 11 years and intend to for may years to come. Surrounded by the north pine dam, lake kurwongbah and the north pine river, there are so many recreational options. Most streets off the main roads are quiet and there is a broad range of housing options from quaint cottages to large modern homes. Development appears to be well managed and has not stripped away the beauty of this suburb. Petrie village offers your convience shopping, post office, news agent, fast food etc and supermarket woolworths. There is also an IGA and other specialty stores in Freches Forest. There are a number of schooling options both in and surrounding Petrie. There are also good linking transport connections to the likes of Grace Lutheran, Genesis, North Pine Christian and st Paul's. Petrie is well connected to major shopping precincts like North Lakes and Strathpine. In fact few suburbs are so well connected. Petrie station is a 24hr maned train station and provides express trips to the city in 35 mins. Traffic congestion has increased since the January floods, but this is a short term problem being addressed by council. Future proposed developments to the railways and the Petrie bypass will when complete take additional traffic away from Petrie in peak times and further enhance this suburb as a great place to live. If you are looking at moving here, come out one weekend and walk around some of the streets, you will quickly see why it is that Petrie residents so love this area.

Love Petrie as a former Sydneysider we purchased our first home here in 2019 after falling in love with this and surrounding areas, what's not to love?

Quiet, leafy streets, big blocks and houses, fantastic public transport with express trains to the cbd, a new uni which is expanding, the mill project well underway and set to be amazing!

Not far from the gorgeous Sunshine Coast or even close to charming country suburbs such as charming Dayboro, Samford Valley etc.

Surrounded by rivers and lush greenery I love living in Petrie it's the perfect, private little pocket of peace outside of the rat race (but not too far) 😊😍🌟

It’s an affordable suburb but it comes at a price. It’s far from the CBD and you get a lot of flow over from the Deception/Sunshine Coast low socio demographics. It’s affordable for a reason

We have been here for 3 month and love it, the lakes are beautiful and we are close to north lakes and only a 35 min drive to brisbane cbd or 30 minute express train. There is heaps of wildlife too, koalas, kookaburra etc. Old petrie town and the new uni going in is great too. Theres a boat ramp close by un lawnton too.

We bought in Petrie as a young family a year ago. It is a beautiful suburb to live in that has all the charm of a small country town but close to amenities, especially north lakes. The area feels so safe and has many other young families near us. It has great highway access, or close to a quick trip to Sanford/Dayboro, our to north pine dam, lake kurwongbah or Sweeney’s reserve. Our only hope is for a few more funky cafes locally, but with north lakes so close by we don’t feel like we are missing out. We hope to stay here for many years to come, especially with some lovely local schools in the area!

We have lived here for 15 years and plan to for many more. We live in Petrie on Pine estate which is a lovely quiet area surrounded natural bushland. There are lovely areas to walk around such as Sweeney's Reserve and the Lakes which are so peaceful and green. It is close to schools and the train line as well as being only a short drive to Northlakes Westfield or Strathpine Centre. The North Pine Country markets are a couple of minutes drive which are also a nice attraction and somewhere to visit on a Sunday. Once the new university opens at Petrie in 2020 and with the new Moreton Bay Rail link it will only improve the area further.

I have lived in Petrie for the last 12 years. It is a great place to live. My children went to Kurwongbah State school and have thrived academically from their schooling. They now have easy access by bus to Grace Lutheran College. Walking distance to shops, schools, parks, transport. Easy access to highway to Sunshine coast. Lakes and dams nearby. Children feel safe. Trees and nature everywhere. Highly recommend living here.

Petrie is a suburb north of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Moreton Bay Region. It is located in the North Pine River section of its local council 24 kilometres north of Brisbane City.
The origin of the suburb name is from an early inhabitant by the name of Tom Petrie. The township was named Petrie after his death. Prior to this, the area was known as North Pine. Tom Petrie was a highly regarded individual in the area through his community work and his cooperation with the local Aboriginal inhabitants.

[2] Petrie railway station provides access to regular Citytrain services to Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast.
The residential estates of Frenchs Forest and Petrie-on-Pine are located in this area.

Attractions:
Tourism in Petrie is mainly focused on recreation. The North Pine Country markets operate each Sunday from 8:00am – 2:00pm on Dayboro road. Recreational activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, fishing and horseriding take place. Signage at Wyllie Park on the Lawnton / Petrie border provides information relating to tourism in the area.

Economy:
Large industries in Petrie include Boral Quarries and Amcor Paper Mill. The Gympie Road, Dayboro Road and Anzac Avenue roundabout junction and surrounding area encompass the town centre which includes retail, commerce and mechanical industries.
