Reviews of Spearwood, WA
"Up and coming family friendly suburb"
I’ve lived in Spearwood for over 10 years and within that time I’ve seen it change for the better- tenfold. Older houses are getting renovated or rebuilt on, as young families and professionals move into the suburb, particularly as Fremantle and surrounds become unaffordable.
Spearwood still has large blocks (600m2+) for a decent price, although I can see this will change in the foreseeable future, as land becomes more expensive.
Historically, Spearwood’s reputation is split between west of Rockingham Road (the good pocket) opposite Coogee and the east side (not so good).
I live on the west side and the area is safe, lots of green spaces, multiple nature reserves-lakes and paths, wildlife and a real sense of community. Neighbours are friendly and regularly say hello. Gardens are well kept and it’s a 5 mins drive to Coogee beach and 10 mins drive to Fremantle. The city on a good day is 30-40 mins drive.
The Eliza Ponds area has been regenerated and cafes such as Coco boho and local restaurants are now within walking distance.
Supermarkets such as Woolworths at Port Coogee are a 5 min drive away.
Best kept secret south of Fremantle.

"Awesome suburb"
Been here 2 years on Eliza Ponds section. Friendly suburb, excellent shops close, several quiet beaches 5+ minutes away, South Freo 10+ minutes away, off peak CBD car travel easy, good public transport choices, nice breezy climate. We love it.

"Depend on luck, do your research well"
There are some horrible tenants around, very aggressive and noisy at night. Calling police all the time and although it gets solved promptly but it happens too frequently. In the middle of exercising my right with legal power to evict some terrifying neighbours.
"Hoon suburb"
It is hard to believe that is ranked one good suburbs to live. We have been renting in two different areas of Spearwood and we always have to cope with some very aggressive and abusive behaviour from drunk or under drugs neighbours! Gerald street and Melun street are full of units with crazy, loud and violent people! We have to call police every weekend and we have small children! If you are looking for a nice place to stay forget about it

"Friendly, welcoming and quiet neighbourhood"
After moving here from Mosman Park we were slightly concerned about the neighbourhood but it turned out to be the complete opposite. People were very welcoming and actually talk to each not just say hello. I love the vicinity to Manning Park and Coggee Beach and Freo. I reckon it’s still very affordable for the good location.

We are in Newton Street and so far it has been great for us. No encounters with drunks or drug addicts. I cant speak of other areas though. I still find its a nice suburb considering its good location and the affordability.
Hi all we are interested in a house on sitwell avenue, do you guys know what the street or local area is like,
Is Newton street still good? looking at buying.
"Quiet Friendly Neighbourhood"
This is one of the friendliest neighborhoods I have lived in. It is a great place to bring up children and an evening walk with the dog will always create opportunities for a chat with the neighbours along the way.
The schools have created long term friendships for the kids and it is so easy to access both Perth and Fremantle with the sea breeze always reliable and early to cool things down. A great place to live.

"Much to offer and not far from the water"
Spearwood is a suburb located in the City of Cockburn and is south of Freemantle. Spearwood once grew to fame for its market gardens and was named for its Melaleuca Trees. There are good educational facilities here including primary and secondary state schools as well as an Alternative school. There are medical centres and many major hospitals are only minutes away. Stargate shopping centre includes a supermarket, butchers and fresh fruit and veges shop as well as specialty and boutiques stores and a food court. There are newsagents, chemist etc throughout the area as well as service stations with ATM and EFTPOS facilities. There are takeaway food outlets dotted around as well as hotels, restaurants and cafes. There is a large health and fitness centre which has courts for many ball sports, fully equipped gymnasium, aqua centre with both indoor and outdoor pool and many other facilities. There are parks in the area with playing fields as well and numerous sporting clubs and associations to join. Spearwood has a friendly caring type atmosphere and property prices are with reach of the average worker.
