I live in the same estate, This would be one of the best estate to live for every age group. we moved in the area in 2019 but we have always visited this area from 2016 since my friend started living there. This review is totally incorrect. We have 2 kids as well, my kids love this area. It has lots of open spaces for the kids and community is superb.

I've lived in Watervale parade for the past 10 years and I have never had the same experience you're talking about. It's completely incorrect.

"The perfect combination of tranquility and location"

A 5-10 minute drive in to Manly and direct access to main roads into the City, Wakerley is a suburb not to be missed especially for its family friendly ambiance and high-level living.
Wakerley is close to local amenities and only a ten minute drive to Westfield Carindale. Yet you can still happily lose yourself in the tranquil surroundings and parks that weave their way between the houses whilst catching the sea breeze that blows gently over from the Coastline and neighbouring suburb of Manly.
As a property hunter, you will find Wakerley a veritable treasure trove, brimming with options!
If you seek being close to the coast yet still on the main City and shopping routes or if you are in search of a peaceful, relaxed and family friendly locale, then you must add Wakerley to your hotspot list!

"Quiet Living .. Family Friendly"

I live in Gumdale just next to Wakerley. It is the perfect neighbourhood for Families and mature aged couples.
There is a high rate of owner occupied homes, everyone takes pride in their homes and the neighbourhood.
Being only 10 minutes from the Manly shore we get the beautiful sea breezes coming off the ocean.
There are cute restaurants and shops at the Gumdale Village and Woolworths is located at the Manly West Shopping Village only 5 minutes away.
Westfiled Carindale is 10 minutes down the road and the gateway is 5 minutes. We wouldn't choose to live anywhere else!

"Quiet and friendly suburb"

I find Wakerley to be very peaceful with friendly neighbours and safe streets for the kids to play. There are lovely parks and very good private schools just up the road. There is some aircraft noise but it is bearable and nothing like Seven Hills/Norman Park area. The only downside about living here is the internet is so incredibly slow. I'm from the UK and I find it ridiculous that this lovely new suburb has the internet speed that the UK had ten years ago!

"Lovely Family Friendly Suburb - shame about the planes"

Wakerley is a lovely green leafy suburb that feels like its away from it all yet close to the city. Fantastic schools and wonderful community spirit. One thing that's becoming more annoying is the airplanes that start flying over at 5am in the morning and continue till late in the night. They do occasionally have a day off however if you live anywhere near the Wakerley Park/ School forget about a sleep in or quiet night in.

  • Air traffic noise
  • Lack of nightlife

"Prestigious bayside suburb"

I have lived here for 7 years. Wakerley is close to Moreton Bay, yet is only a short drive to the shopping hub of Westfield Carindale. If I had to recommend the suburb, I'd say it appeals mainly to families and couples. That's because it's leafy, quiet, has great walking/cycling tracks - and boasts 2 great private schools and a couple of very well- regarded state schools. Our estate, Mossvale-on-Manly is very tightly-held, as it was master planned in great detail by Mirvac.

The suburb is adjacent to Gumdale which has some cute local shops. The other main shopping strip is Mayfair Village.

For boaties, Wakerley is a short drive to RQYC and the Manly and Lota foreshore. It's 45 minutes' drive to the Gold Coast and well- connected to the Gateway Motorway - handy for those who work in Brisbane cbd r the "Goldie".

There are koala corridors dotted throughout the suburb and it is a safe and pleasant place for kids and teens to grow up in. I wouldn't live anywhere else - it's gorgeous.

"A great place for young families"

A lovely, friendly place to live. Wakerley is only 5 minutes from the bay. Every weekend you have the choice of 2 excellent markets to attend which are only minutes away. There are many great schools close to wakerley. So many young families already live here. Wakerley has a fantastic community spirit.

I would like to know whether internet access/speed is a problem in Wakerley? Also I want to know whether any streets had flooding during the recent January floods?

Debello
Debello

We've had no reports of internet access diffuculty from our tenants in Wakerley, the only reports of water damage came from properties on the other side of Manly Rd, & they were those that had existing building defects...

HouseInOz

May I aks which streets might be on the "other side of Manly Rd" as I am very new to the area? I have also read here about aircraft noise and break ins??

Thanks for the reply

lpa

We have experienced no Internet trouble in our area. Only problem is optus doesn't service our area , so you will have to go with telstra on explore the options of another service provider. We have had no issues with crime, however I do recommend you get a dog. Planes do fly overhead, but I have never had an issue with it. One other thing - make sure your mobile phone works in your house before you buy a particular property.

MPP

Internet access is a real issue in this area. Mossvale in particular. It has taken us over two years to get ADSL. Telstra wireless internet works ok, but is not the cheapest.

Are there still heaps of those exclusive bretheren sect in Wakerley? They're used to be quite a few houses where they used to practise communal living.

Internet speed is atrocious during peak times, slower than dial up!! There is a spate of break ins from time to time (as with most nicer suburbs) it pays to be friendly with your neighbours, we all look out for each other's houses when someone is away on holidays

Internet speeds can be poor in the newer estates due to the developers installing pair gain lines to an MDF at the entrance to the estate...ADSL2 but with contention if that helps and Telstra is the 'backbone' so you need to be with Telstra or one of their re-sellers, which in fact can give you more issues. Aircraft noise is not an issue but depending on the stillness and flight paths, you can hear them from time to time. Flooding is not an issue but BCC plans should be checked before buying as standard practice. The Exclusive Brethren love Wakerley as it is close to their private school and halls, we have neighbours who are practising Brethren and they are great neighbours...although when they do regular home gatherings the street fills up with cars quickly... Clean area with good parks and close to shops, amenities, bayside, good schools, and not too many Asians or Indians or muslims (yet) so it is a good white middle class suburb.

Hi, we are looking in moving to the Western suburbs and I came across Wakerley. I have two young boys (aged 9 and 12) can anyone list me the great schools (public and private) close or near in the area so I can enquire regarding availability. We are moving from Europe. Thanks in advance.

joannev2

Hi elenik3 - Wakerley is in the bayside area (so south and east of Brisbane, not in western subs). There are multiple private schooling options in the area for high school (Moreton Bay Boys College which is boys only, Ormiston College, Redlands College, Sheldon College are co-ed). These are the ones I can list off the top of my head, all within a short drive of Wakerley. Perhaps google those to get a feel and arrange for tours, and enquire as to enrolment process. The local public primary school for Wakerley is Gumdale State School, which has an excellent reputation and is highly south after, an option for your 9 year old. Good luck with your move.
