Reviews of Wallan, VIC
"Nothing to see here. Move along. Move along"
Lets be honest, its not a great place to live. Nothing here apart from new builds and soulless roads to nowhere.
Kilmore, Heathcote Junction, Broadford, Wandong, even Whittlesea all have more.
Also, how long until Hidden Valley tries to become a separate place?
On the positive side, its close to Melbourne and a train station nobody can walk to.

"Good pub, but not much else"
The town lacks any real character. It is effectively just a suburb of Melbourne now.
Also, how long until Hidden Valley becomes its own town?
Broadford and Heathcote Junction are far more characterful and liveable areas.

"Wallan is an OK suburb"
Wallan is OK. Safe and with a good pub. That’s about it. A bit boring and stale if thought of as a town. OK if viewed as a suburb of Melbourne.

"Safe, easy to commute, but not the prettiest town"
Wallan is a mix of old and new builds. Not the prettiest of towns, with Heathcote Junction, Kilmore and Broadford being more attractive towns. However, if you want a suburban life on a decent-sized block, Wallan could be for you.

"Best outer Melbourne suburb."
Wallan is a great country town away from city rush yet not faraway from the city. If you like country life style and still need commute to work in the city every day then this is it.

"Beautiful area with great community spirit"
A great community.
Ideal for those who enjoy regional Victoria but, work in the CBD. Be spoilt with day trip choices to King Lake, Whittlesea, Kilmore, Heathcoote, Woodend, Lancefield and many other places to enjoy visiting and spend time at say a farmer's market or two.
There are many schools to choose from in there area and development continues to grow to meet the future needs of the community.
Cafes and shopping is suitable for weekly needs and there are plenty of shopping centres within a 30minute drive, with more to come closer (Donnybrook road etc.)
There are also many wineries and even small producers of Honey, Cider and Cheese very close by.
Historical groups and community groups are actively working hard to ensure the community is stronger than ever.
Public transport is very strong for such a small suburb population and signs of strong proactive community leadership. Three busses service Wallan and the train is a very efficient way to travel too and from the CBD. Cost is the same as metro rates!

"Great semi rural town, increasing in services rapidly"
Moved here about 3 years ago and it is a great little town for a number of reasons. Very friendly community feel, fresh air, little traffic in town itself, fab market every month, lots of local sports and community groups, affordable housing, close to country areas yet only a short drive down Hume toward urban shopping such as the new Craigieburn Central complex and Epping Plaza. Central streets can be a bit less desirable, mainly just a few local kids, noise etc but away from the inner roads there is plenty of space and quiet to be found. Easy drive to areas such as Hanging Rock and Woodend etc which are lovely. VLine service direct to Melbourne from Wallan station. Good choice of state, Catholic and Private schools if you include the town of Kilmore, a ten minute drive north. Many residents commute at least 30 minutes upwards for employment.
Great for
- Fresh air, easy to reach scenic areas
- Community small town feel
- Access to freeway for travel, commute etc
Not great for
- More decent restaurants and cafés would be good
- Not enough talk about how good the area is

Hidden Valley restaurant has now opened for drinks and bar meals. Formally opening g in Jan 2019.
Wallan is horrendous seriously.
There is zero to do there unless you want to drink your life away and enjoy isolation or red neck mentality.
It's cheap for a reason and it will cost you in other ways living there in the long run if you are from elsewhere.
I'm sure it was once a decent little country town but it has been a hole for a long time now.
After 2 years of owning a home there it finally got too much and my family sold up and moved back to Melb to rent and couldn't be happier.
Honestly I'd rather stay renting than have a mortgage there.
If you like slow pace quiet it may be for you..... if not-dont do it!
Shocking place for entertainment, but if you like greasy takeaway you'll love it. Overun by ferals.
Oh, and the up keep of the estate is non existent....if you have a choice go somewhere else
