Reviews of Wavell Heights, QLD
"Overpriced"
I can't understand why this suburb is selling so well. The street aesthetics aren't great. The school catchments are poor. It isnt even within 8m of CBD but is selling for 20-40% more than Evertone Park and Enogerra. I don't understand it but I also think Ascot is overpriced compared to Wilston/Windsor and Gordon Park.
"Some nice city views but a little too pretentious and lots of run down unkept properies"
If you are a luck one you might get a city gimps. Driving through the suburb its a bit overrated yes it has some really beautiful properties but I can assure you 3 doors down is a dump. Traffic can be hard either Sandgate or Gympie rd to get anywhere as there are so many sets of lights.

"Boring, lack of public transport, close to nothing but parks."
Lots of park area at Shaw Rd but not much else going for it. You have to drive to get to any decent shops, it's lacking public transport options and is now veined with rat runs to and from the city and heavy, noisy traffic. No restaurants or entertainment areas in walking distance and the lower areas are very flood prone. Parts of Edinburgh Castle Road was flooded with sewerage water in the last massive downpour in 2013 and Shaw Rd parkland was inundated cutting off the road and causing traffic chaos. Kedron Brook is a flood liability. A boring, bland, suburb. Looking forward to finally moving out of Wavell Heights to either Chermside or Nundah which have really cleaned up, are more happening, have better access to public transport and infrastructure and have a lot more going for them. Will leave Wavell Heights to the oldies.

"Little trendy cafes now"
A safe neighborhood. Not many units. Friendly people. I like the way there are 2 suburban cafes near me. One on main Avenue and the other on bilsen Road. They are cute and not surrounded by a shopping centre. That is unique.
Good cycleways. Close to Chermside Mall.

"Great place to live with kids"
we've been living in wavell for more than 2 years now; we like :1 the quiet,no noise life,2 very nice neighbours; 3 good parks; 4 nature like; 5 there are 2 schools that are quite good: a lot of extra curriculum: drama, chess, sport etc You don't need to bring your child far from home. Close to Chermside Shopping centre-the best and many medical facilities.
Negative: it is quite expensive to buy a house in this suburb

"Interesting Information About Wavell Heights"
The area of Wavell Heights was originally known as West Nundah. In 1922 West Nundah consisted of approximately two houses, built along Edinburgh Castle Road. One was on the corner of Shaw Road and Edinburgh Castle Road. At the time the road was a dirt track leading to the Edinburgh Castle Hotel, which was the stopping place for the coach travelling along the Old Northern Road to Gympie with the mail. Next to the hotel was a leather goods business of A.S.Dewar and Sons, He lived in Power Street for many years. Many early families gave their names to Streets and Roads in the district. The Shaws lived in Shaw Park in a house across the road from the present day hockey field. The house was demolished in the war years. Other early families were the Pfingsts, Rohdes, Gohdes, Horsfalls, Westwoods and Rilatts. Rode Road was named after the Rohde family, but the spelling was changed.
In 1940 the Postmaster at Nundah decided the area was too large to handle, and it was decided to set up another suburb. It become necessary to find a name for the new suburb, and submissions were called for. Some of the suggested names were Inala, Gavin Hill and Wavell Heights. Wavell Heights was a popular choice polling 366 votes to Gavin Hills 218 votes. Field Marshall Wavell was contacted and gave permission for his name to be used. To inaugurate the new suburb a Patriotic Concert was held in the Imperial Theatre Nundah on Thursday 9 October 1941 in the presence of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Brisbane (Aldermand and Mrs J.B.Chandler).
Just a slight difference. I believe the vote held at the Chamber of Commerce was between Wavell Heights and Avon.
"Great neigbours"
If you love a quiet family atmosphere - Wavell Heights has it. There are plenty of parks including access to the Kedron Brook Bikeway and local wetland we call "the pond". This also creates a beautiful green outlook. Shopping is convenient with Toombul, Stafford and Chermside all in easy reach. There are also local shops, cafes and restaurants at neighbouring Nundah. Access to the city and airport are also handy and travel time is less than 20mins.
The elevation provides vistas of city and suburbs plus access to cooling breezes in Summer.
There are plenty of schools, both public and private, to choose from. All offer quality programs and many specialise in academic, music and sporting pursuits.
The best part of living at Wavell Heights are the fantastic neighbours. People are friendly, helpful and look after each other without intruding.

"Trendy and tropical"
I love Wavell Heights because it is so close to everything. The cul-de-sac end of Bilsen Road is delightfully tranquil and safe. Every summer day I could enjoy the cool afternoon sea breeze. So close to major shopping centres, and the city.

Sea breeze?
"close to everything"
Wavell Heights Rocks!!! Every time my husband and I have to go somewhere we always comment "I love where we live". We are so close to everything (work, shops, city, airport) and if we have to drive further afield we are always in awe of the poor people that sit in endless traffic every day.

"Wavell Heights just to far out from CBD"
Welcome to Traffic Heights, imagine getting caught in peak hour traffic coming home form the city of Brisbane. It could take you 40 minutes or so. With that and the cost of fuel being so high i would be living closer toward the CBD

If you work in the CBD and are locked into a 9 to 5 work period, then I can't think of any suburbs which would have much less traffic. Wavell Heights is no worse for this than anywhere else, and moving closer in will mean a more expensive house. Use public transport! there are plenty of train stations nearby (Geebung, Virginia, Northgate, Nundah, Toombul, Eagle Junction)
I live in Wavell and my son goes to school in the city so I travel every morning in peak traffic, avoiding sandgate road the longest it has ever taken me is 27minutes to get from home to city and the slowest part of that journey was from the windsor to city (15+min) which is less then 4k from city so the closer doesnt always mean less travel time. One of the joy's of Wavell Heights is the amount of alternate roads that you can take that take you directly to the city without the bumper to bumper fuel consuming traffic.
What? WAVELL HEIGHTS is close to everything. The airport is only 15 mins away and Chermside Westfield only 7 mins away and with the tunnels you can be in Chapel Hill in 20 mins way on the other side of town. The north side of WAVELL HEIGHTS is perhaps better than the other side. What's wrong with lots of parkland? You prefer Chermside with its jungle of apartments? I live on the north side of WAVELL HEIGHTS and I have a city bus stop 30mtrs from home. There is no pleasing some people I guess.
