Reviews of Telopea, NSW

"Beautiful area"

I have been living in Telopea since 2017. I met a few drunk people in the train station area or on Bus 545 before the construction. A little annoying but they are no harm. These days, more and more low income people moved out and I am looking forward to rebuild this area as council planned.
I never regret to live here. It is surrounded by so many private schools from very high end to the affordable range. The public school Cumberland High also got great HSC record recent years. North of Telopea even in the catchment area of Carlingford west primary school...
Life here is convenient. Tram construction seems as planned. We will have a cycle way soon!
Over all. It is much more than I expected. All my neighbors are so caring. It is good for bush walk. The best thing I like it is traffic. Kissing point is 10 times better than Penal Hill. Traffic to epping or eastwood during the morning rush-hour save me huge time compare with Carlingford. After we got tram, the traffic to the city will definitely within 50 min.

I've lived there since 1987 on the government housing side( main shops) You would not buy a property on that side if you knew better !!! Extreme. violence and crime due to drugs and alcohol, it has gotten worse over the years . The new construction might change things, but I don't know by how much. The other side of the train line is completely different, famiy friendly

Looking for a home in Telopea?

"What a nice suburb!"

My partner and I are young professionals and have recently bought a property in Telopea. What a beautiful suburb it is. With all the light rail and other council projects under development in Telopea, I’m sure it will have everything by 2023 that it is lacking now. Very glad to buy a property here.

"Last opportunity North of Parra River? Improving fast."

I am a genuine resident writing a genuine review. I have no affiliations to any agencies or likewise.

My partner and I recently bought a place in Telopea - yes, the IGA side of the rail - and we have zero regrets on our purchase. We scored a great deal in a beautiful suburb, and we believe Telopea may be one of the last opportunities for us to get our foot in door for the now quite exclusive suburbs North of the Parramatta River.

Parramatta Council's priority renewal project, the Telopea Master Plan, is what prompted us to take the leap. With the new Light Rail works moving quickly, we can also see new developments here and there in our vicinity. Can't wait for the new retail outlets! You can search all this up quite easily on the Parramatta Council website.

The public housing complexes appear to be getting cleared out and/or rebuilt entirely. Most of the "problematic people" that some seem to complain about are just older alcoholics, but they mean no harm. Most of the little brats appear to be gone. There may be a few eyesores like graffiti here and there, but it is safe. It is also improving in general very quickly.

I have bumped into many older Asian ladies going for walks with their pets around the local park each night, and see many younger professional couples in the area in general. My partner and I are one of these couples.

The area is very green, with lots of old trees left alone to flourish over the decades. Telopea itself is quite hilly, and we have fantastic views over the entire Dundas Valley, all the way to Sydney Olympic Park and the Olympic Stadium, on one side, then views to Parramatta CBD on the other.

It is also super quiet on our street at night - I don't know what other streets are like, but probably the same.

We love our place, and growing to love this suburb more and more. We are excited for the future of Telopea, and stoked to now be a part of the growth and development.

We really hope this area attracts more younger professionals like us.

how do you travel by public transport to cbd?

Hi amyl37,

The Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 is still in progress, so no rail availabile until early 2023.

My partner commutes to Sydney CBD via frequent 545 buses to either Eastwood or Parramatta stations both around 10-15 minutes. Eastwood and Parramatta both have frequent trains to the city, but Parramatta has express options - about 30 minutes. All in all, takes my partner about 45-55 minutes. Telopea to Town Hall.

Cheers!

Thank you so much. Its a bit tricky to travel to work. Hope itll be ok.

No problem! There is also a 513 you can catch from Telopea shops that goes to West Ryde station. This is not as frequent as the 545 service.

Your best bet would be 545 to Parramatta, then express train to Sydney CBD. As before, this total trip will take 45-55 minutes, and you will probably get used to it quite quickly.

Good luck!

I've lived in Telopea since 1987, a lot of violence from drug and alcohol abuse on the main shops side and family friendly quiet on the other side of tracks. The new construction will change things but by how much? By the sound of your review you must live in the highrise but that is social housing?

"Good and very bad"

One side of Telopea is a very nice there are lots of nice families. The other side near the station and IGA has a LOT of housing commission there are always drunk and drug effected people hanging around the shops asking for money. I have been in the area for 3 years and plan to leave soon as I have a 12 month baby.
