Relocating from VIC - Townsville or Mackay - which is a better place to live?

We are relocating from Victoria, and looking at Townsville or Mackay. Just want peoples views on both and which is a better place to live. Work isn't an issue. Just looking for the whole package for the lifestyle.

Have lived in both. TOWNSVILLE IS THE SECOND LARGEST CITY IN QLD. better hospital, university, sporting _ motor racing and rugby, Thurston town, good theatres, the suburbs don't flood much...cyclones are rare but when they come they can be savage. Mackay is much wetter. My asthma played up dreadfully there. The people are friendly but you should be in the upper echelon as the cane farmers are almost another culture.
Townsville has the better hospital and the people are friendly and laid back. Plenty of activities for the kids, good schools. I taught in both towns.

I don’t think Townsville is the second largest city in Queensland. There is the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Logan and Ipswich which are bigger unless Townsville has really boomed in the last 20 years since I lived there lol

Since I’ve started writing I’ll add that I personally would choose Townsville over Mackay. I haven’t spent much time in Mackay at all but I love Townsville and I want to move back there. Mackay never gave me I want to live there vibes lol
