"Beautiful leafy tree lined suburb with Lush Parks"

Travancore is full of charm and character. It has streets lined with Elm trees and period homes filled with character running across the huge lush parks. Its a great location that feels like your lost in green leafy suburbs although you're only 7 minutes from the City and only 12 minutes to the international airport.
The Melbourne bike trail also trails through Travancore if you want to safely get around with a bike.
The Zoo is just a stroll away behind more lush parks in the adjacent suburb in Parkville with one of Melbourne's only inner city natural vegetation parks.
The tram stop is also conveniently on Mt Alexander road that comes right past Travancore for all the public transport lovers and a train stop near by too.
And for the dog lovers out there it has a huge off lead dog park too.
I cant believe this little Gem suburb is so close to the CBD. Perfect for inner city lifestyle but wanna feel like your living in the leafy suburbs.

Looking for a home in Travancore?

"No character lots of apartments and traffic"

It doesn’t have personality or charm. Lots of new apartments and rather concrete jungle, but in saying this it’s much cheaper to buy or rent here than more established suburbs with trees and character homes.
Only 7 mins by tram into the CBD and a fantastic base for anyone working or studying in the city.
Not so great for lifestyle if you like the outdoors.
Have a look at google maps and see mount alexander road Travancore. Lots of traffic/roads/apartments.
Not my cup of tea but perfectly suitable to CBD interests and for the cheap rent/buy.

"A niche suburb on the edge of the CBD"

The suburb of Travancore shares its 3032 postcode with Ascot Vale but was until quite recently a part of Flemington (3031). The history of this unique pocket goes back to the 1800s when Travancore House was built. It took its name from the former Indian state of Travancore. The large estate was partially sub-divided in the 1920s and these newly created streets were given distinctly Indian/Asian names (Lucknow, Mangalore, Cashmere, Madura and Mooltan). This up-market sub-division spawned the construction of the area’s finest Deco-influenced homes and apartments – most of which stand today giving Travancore its unique architectural flavour. Sadly, the grand residence was demolished in the 1940s leaving only the front gates which survive to this day as the entrance to Flemington Primary School. Other highlights of the suburb include Travancore Park and Delhi Reserve along the Moonee Ponds Creek, the popular cycling trail, specialized Travancore School and the significant new residential development on the old Lombards site on Mt Alexander Road.
