Upper Kedron, QLD 4055

The newly established Ellendale area is very safe, pleasant, peaceful and quiet. The park there is well equipped and awesome. The urban landscape is modern where all houses are brand new which gives a nice warm feeling to the area. Most of the area at the estate are quiet small blocks, as expected at a typical new estate development areas. Thankfully, we got a decent size block.

The biggest downside is its location. It feels like we are living in a middle of no where and its too remote. It is extremely far from everything, from the coast, hardware stores, motorways, airport, public hospitals, good schools, Brisbane river and all universities. You name it. Cafe culture is also lacklustre. However, with the new development upcoming at the train station. This should improve.

Public transport is non-existent and it seems that council has forgotten about us.

Driving to the city takes about 25 mins with no traffic at all which is nice. As mentioned in the reviews below, travel to the city takes an excess of an hour or more. There are 2 ways to get to city. Either you take the quickest route via Samford Road or via Waterworks Road. Both options are terrible during peak hour and are heavily congested and clogged up due to thousands of traffic lights and the fact that we are living literally at the edge of the city.

Taking public transport (bus with an interchange at Ferny Grove station) takes more than an hour. Do not bother parking at the train station as you will not find a carpark. Note that there is no direct public transport from the Ellendale estate to the city.

If you are looking to retire here, by all means live here and enjoy the living environment. For families, I would say no. You will have poor access to facilities and fun activities (except for the playground) required for your children.

Myself and my partner bought a home here 2 years ago, and we absolutely love it.
l community to the city daily for work, and love that I can reach the city in just over 30 mins. The lanes into the city flow well due to having 2 areas in which you can reach the city and a train station at Ferny Grove!

I bought a beautiful home that backs onto beautiful private bush land surround by other young families. There is some amazing Cafes Dsol, Ferny hills Cafe as well as a beautiful family Pizza restaurant at Ferny Hills Tennis court! Samford is also a great day out for brunch/ dinner and is only a 10 minute drive away.
The local community is really supportive of one another, and there is a great community support page run by A local lady Kim you can join for any support you need settling into the suburb.

In terms of parks/ play areas, there is so many to choose from! There is a huge one for older children in the upper kedron elendale community. And the water park within 5 minutes. There is also the hills all abilities playground which is fantastic.
There is a small park with a creek you can often see turtles at.

Lots of young professional couples live here which is great for us as a family.

I honestly just love living here and I’m so glad we decided to buy here!

Having moved from inner suburb to Upper Kedron, the first thing I noticed was how peaceful and quiet it is. Beautiful natural surrounding. Leisurely 20-30 mins drive to city. Could use more coffee shops and a bit of ambience. Hopefully those will come as the suburb grows.

It is close enough to city (20 minutes drive non peak hour) yet feels a world away. The new estate is beautifully laid out with green, hilly views. The houses are all new and adhere to strict covenant. Best of all, lots of friendly young families and keen to get to know each other. Well established school and amenities at Ferny Grove is just 5 minutes drive away. Same to Keperra shopping centre. Perhaps the only drawback.. it is quite far from motorways network so you have to add 15-20 minutes to go to the coasts compared to journeys from inner suburbs. We can live with that.

In Upper Kedron, No School, No Shopping Centre, Very Little Bus Service. Upper Kedron Population is more than 4500 Residents and Still Local Government Ignore this Suburb.
There is still NO State School in Upper Kedron, No Shopping Centre in Upper Kedron, Worst Bus Service in Upper Kedron. Cedar Woods selling Land at very high rates. From UpperKedron it normally takes 40 minutes to City. Local Councillor Steve Toomey is Useless. There is still No Chances for Local School or Local Shopping Centre in Upper Kedron because Brisbane City Council more focused on Develop South Side and Western Suburbs . There is Park But No Lights and No Toilet Facilities in Park.

I have lived in my own place at Upper Kedron for 10 years , my area is more established near Selkirk Rd , houses are generally contemporary on 800 sq mtr blocks , certainly all houses are well kept and house proud , the streets are quite , we are about 12 Klm straight line to city , if you drive to city at peak you will get traffick on Kelvin Grove Road , But this is only weekdays , if heading to city on weekend it’s a leisurely drive to city sights iether iether Kelvin Grove rd or via the Gap etc, Upper Kedron is a green area part of BCC , Ferny Grove train station for city is a 5 minute drive , plenty of shops within 5 Klm to choose from , , Brookside , Arana Hills , Keperra Great Western , plenty of parks and dog options , I live next to a park walkway , never graffiti or undesirables bother coming to the area in my 10 years , as you have to drive to Upper Kedron albeit very short ,recently on news Upper Kedron was noted as one of safest ( no crime ) identified , some areas are new and the blocks are getting smaller as in everywhere so I like older established homes on bigger blocks , Ferny Grove High , And Primary are close , St Andrews Primary all seem like good schools , Samford not far away for short coffee breaks or drive out to country areas , Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast about an hour away , city drive 30 minutes , A good mix I expect of majority owners , some rentals , some pockets a number of DHA Defence Homes , I spent 20 years in the Army and have found Defence members are good neighbours , but the area has a good feel about it when travelling around , I can’t fathom some comments with a negative tone ,these comments seem to be from people who don’t live here ! I am pretty fussy on liveability and I think Upper Kedron is a great place that not to many people understand , house prices at this time mid 500 k to upper 700 k , still a good price to what they are paying to live in Western Sydney ! Great area

If you are looking for Nightlife and Eating Out look elsewhere, this is a great family suburb, close to the city with great schools, sized blocks and facilities for families.

A lovely suburb with a mix of new and 10 years old homes. Great for families.

Not enough ameneties and a lot of untidy yards

We looked at buying but it is beside the refuse tip and a bit far from the CBD, just felt a bit too remote for us. Great size blocks though.
