"Pretty safe area on the outskirts of Geelong"

I've only just moved here. I used to live in Portarlington. Despite its closeness to Newcomb and Whittington, it feels like one of Geelong's safer suburbs. Still, it'll take you an eternity to commute to Melbourne which is what I like doing because I'm a youngster who needs excitement. Even though I'm just a tenant, my neighbours seem to mean well. They don't seem antagonistic at all. They got little kids who still rant and rave regularly. I can walk around in the evening without feeling threatened too.

"Quiet suburb with inadequate public transport"

I lived here for six odd months while my family were moving house. It doesn't have a train station, nor does it have trams. The bus service is unreliable, but you really don't want to drive a car into the CBD, do you?

No trains or trams is a selling point , public transport in Melbourne is not safe and brings crime , no thanks .

"This town keeps getting bigger than Texas"

My family chose to leave this place 2 years ago when I finished university, but it's not really what I hoped would happen. I had a lot of friends here, but there were some idiots as well. And although me, my brother and my mum protested against it, council allowed McDonalds to be built here in 2012! No good. McDonalds is disgusting. If you think it's a great place to live then try living here for a few years. I lived here for more than 15 years. It does get quite hot in summer and cold in winter but I love cold weather. You can always put on more layers. But my family had had enough when the town kept growing. They were desirous for a sea change, and I couldn't stop them. I had to come with them or else! That's why we all live in Portarlington now. The schools in the Gisborne area aren't really great, though.

"A tiny place which is still pretty far from the Big Smoke and not really close to Geelong"

I dislike living here but have reluctantly been doing so for several years now because I had no other options. My family did move away from Keilor in Melbourne where they (my parents) were renting. I don't care how refreshing the sea air is. There's nothing to do here really. Furthermore, there's an abject lack of footpaths. If you like fishing then it's different. Neighbours are alright but some are quite quirky. One joked how unless you're born under the pier, you're not a Port local. Only an inbred would say that. The plovers often scream at night, but I try to smile through their noise. I do not like the two story house I live in, for it gets quite hot in summer. I will move out when I have enough money and stable
work. Want fast food from a restaurant such as either Red Rooster, Dominoes or KFC? You will have to travel (unless you're prepared to eat what the locals offer) because the closest locations with them are respectively South Geelong, Newcomb and Drysdale. Gotta visit a hospital? You'd better go to Geelong Central - or further.
