Chermside

"Buyer Beware"

How interesting that realestate.com.au has selectively deleted the comment I posted about living in Chermside. The reality is, we cant wait to leave this dive of a suburb. We have lived here for the past 10 plus years and have seen its decline into ruin during that time, with it all beginning with the introduction of Gillhooleys. Ever since then, we have seen a marked increase in the population of undesirables. The final straw for us was the introduction of paid parking in the shopping centre. Ever since then, everyone seems to be using the surrounding streets as their own private car park. Do yourself a BIG favour and give Chermside a WIDE birth, otherwise you will regret it. "Fore warned is fore prepared".

Great for

  • Close to everything
  • Community garden
  • Great parks with free fitness equipment. Top aquatic centre

Not great for

  • Drunken louts
  • General social deterioration
  • Development has killed the general feel of the place
  • BBQs and lights in local park would make it perfect for summer

Who lives here?

  • Singles
  • LGBT+
  • Trendy & Stylish

Hi there - we are from Sydney and are moving up to Brisbane and I thought Chermside would be great as on a train line and not too far from friends who live in North Lakes. We have a little boy (4 yrs old) and after reading your review, I do NOT want to live in this suburb. Where could you suggest is a nice place that is not too close to Brisbane city and is friendly neighbourhood, parks, schools and on a train line (so that when I start work) I don't have to travel for 30 mins to the city. Your help would be really appreciated as we have no idea where a child / family friendly area is (and of course, if its not too expensive to rent) - we are looking at paying up to $650 in rent if that helps (and want a house with pool) - thanks a lot for your help.

Hey cbdgal :) The sad reality is that my wife and I used to love living in chermside, and oddly enough i do miss certain aspects of the place. $650 pw is HUGE rent, so you could pretty much choose your suburb for that rent. I am not certain what suburbs are best on the northside as we have only lived in a few places. However, we did live in St Lucia back in my uni days. Its a nice leafy suburb with good schools and reasonable shopping options etc. It hasnt been ravaged by high rise developments that has befallen chermside. You do get a lot of students there, but we never had real issues. You do have a nice walking path along the brisbane river, just dont go there at night. There are some playgrounds for kids as well. Anyways, thats my pick. If I had the money to buy, ide buy there in a heartbeat. Hope that helped you out :D

Thanks for your reply, I did look up St Lucia and the hilarious thing is the pic that shows up on this site is one of the street flooded !! whoops! Unfortunately I don't want to live too far away from my friend which is why I am looking North rather than South. Living in Sydney for 11 years I have great friends here but only 1 friend in North Lakes so I know it is a bit of an upheaval to go into a new area and not know anyone and its nice just to have that support until we get to meet other families. Thanks Hegatron appreciate your reply : )

why do you say such bad things about an Irish pub? That can't be a bad thing. Loutishness is annoying to live near though. Is there crime from the pub? You also say it's trendy and stylish. I would write to the council about the parking and just try to help in that way. Thank you.

I have lived here 12 years. Live about 2 k from the Westfield, where this infamous pub is located!! I dont get it. Are these guys living right next door? You cant blame the suburb for that. There are more beautiful suburbs but Chermside is too convenient to leave. Love it
