The Gap

"The Gap (Shh keep it a secret so we can maintain our lifestyle)"

Having lived in the Gap for 8 years (in 3 different houses) I feel that we are in a reasonable position to talk about the place.

Bottom line, it is fantastic.

We live in Walsall St (Cul-de-sac) that nearly every afternoon has kids out riding bikes, kicking footballs or jumping in each other's pools.

The local schools are fantastic, and especially the Gap State High, has a great reputation for academic achievement.

Public transport is great, 6 separate bus routes (380-385) service the suburb, with the 385 running every 10 mins during peak, and every 15 mins off peak 7 days a week.

Shopping is OK for the basics (Food/Petrol/Alcohol) but not a lot for the shopaholics. Brookside and Indooropilly are only about 15-20 mins away and Chermside is 25 mins away if you want "real" shopping.

For Foodies, there is not a large range, the basics are covered with McDonalds, numerous pizza outlets, Thai, Chinese and the Gap Tavern resturant.

We were living in the Gap when the 2008 Storms hit, and to say that pulled the community together was an understatement, there were strangers help each other that have gone on to become friends as a result.

Through our kids we have found and maintain a number of friendships with other parents and it is the first time we have experienced this type of "community"

One downside of the Gap is the heat and/or Cold. We generally sit between the Brisbane and Ipswich temperatures (Mt Coot-tha blocks some of the breezes), but if you have air con, then this isn't an issue, only when you want to get outdoors is there an issue.

House sales in the Gap are regularly to existing Gap residents that are looking to upgrade. Overall, we love the place and will probably be here for many years yet.

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
