Castlemaine

"Great country town, loved by locals and 'inner north' migrants"

After living in Fitzroy for 6 years we recently made the tree change and settled in Castlemaine. It could still be the honeymoon period but we absolutely love this place. There are some great coffee shops and restaurants to meet the needs of a foodie, fantastic markets to buy locally grown produce and arts, and the cycling around here is outstanding. Whether you are into road, gravel or mountain biking, its awesome. Oh, and not to forget about the great two local breweries and friendly pubs. I commute to the city by train, which is super easy. The train ride is a bit more expensive than I thought, costing about $4000 for an annual unlimited commute. The drive into the city is also quite easy, but I prefer the train. And yes, the supermarket is expensive, but the range is really good, not too dissimilar to Piedemonte in Fitzroy North.

Hi, I plan on staying in Castlemaine for a month or two as I have started a new job. Is it a safe place to live? Commuting to Kyneton and city? As I will be working in Kyneton. If all goes well I plan on staying permanently in Gisborne, Kyneton or Castlemaine.
