Hamilton

"Fair place to live ( updated )"

Pro's- Good sporting facilities
- Lake Hamilton, Botanic Gardens, Cheap houses, Cooler weather, Great Art Gallery, library. .

Cons - It may have improved but it has no Oncology ward, forcing people to go to Ballarat or Warrnambool. I had to get a mole cut out and in Hamilton, I would have had to wait two months.
New Mayor - good luck

Please add yourself to the list of cons on this list and reason why the town is not progressing, another person whose sole focus is to dwell on the negative.
School facilities in this town at THAC & Monivae College are the best in the state, more educated and professional people are relocating to this town and vacating the city. As a town and district the town is screaming out for these people to come and call our region home and to help create positive change.
Well done on turning them away with your negative post.
If you have nothing nice to say (let alone making defamatory comments toward two named locals in this review please save your breath and run for council to create positive change.

* facilities among the best in the state

Well done for your dose of cancel culture and disallowing free speech. It's an open forum and I post my opinions, not yours. Secondly there is evidence provided both positive and negative. But you decided not to comment on that. That's your choice. And by the way, I assume you must be talking about the same Monivae college in this article. https://www.standard.net.au/story/1320791/monivae-college-sex-abuse-victims-to-sue-catholic-church/ You don't defame someone if you post information in the public domain.

No thank you Glen. I solely only commented to state that in order to encourage people to relocate to our great area that we should be providing positive reasons to do so, not dwelling on negatives. The town is filled with many brilliant people who are progressive and we should be welcoming individuals and new familys to the area not giving them reason to seek other small regional areas.

First of all this is not a PR website for the Southern Grampians Shire and Tourism centre. This is a review site and people don't HAVE to post positive comments if they feel, with evidence and in fairness, they should comment on something negative that might concern others. If Hamilton gets an oncology service, as Portland has, it will really assist those affected by cancer.

sallyf4

The best thing about Hamilton is the nature - Botanic Gardens, surrounding access to Grampians, art gallery, and lake.

Come on Sallyf4 slow down a little, I know covid19-eternity has had a negative affect on you but as a regional centre with a poulation of approx 10,000 residents Hamilton has got everything you need to live a great lifestyle. Name me another regional town in Victoria with a similar population that you feel is better and you can win a prize.

sallyf4

No worries. . Just have my slot and I give my view. That's what it's all about. If you think it's a great place and many do, for sure welcome your points. Since you asked, I will reply. In my view ( only ) Ararat has access to Ballarat on the train. House prices the same. Population similar.
In my view, Portland, the beach obviously, and oncology services, better hospital with air services. Passengers to Hamilton Airport not running. Dan Tehan, can't think of any major achievements in his time as member. I'm not having a cheap shot, I just can't think of any. Welcome to disagree.

Sallyf4 I agree Dan Tehan is a waste of space his best friends live in Glenthompson :-) thats why they got a telstra cell tower. Ararat full of Pedos, and too far away from the beach, Portland wouldn't even recommend it to my ex wife lol BTW why aren't you living in Ararat or Portland if you think they are better towns than Hamilton???

sallyf4

I think a few people on here take any negative points personally. People have a right to point out some negative aspects of living in certain regional areas. All towns have pro's and cons. Mount Gambier, great new internet project there, but very cold. Portland, amazing coastal scenery, can be very windy. Hamilton, Gardens nature, art gallery, but lack of transport connectivity, issues of distance and issues with hospital. Ararat, image from local corrections, positive is corrections provides employment. BUT.....this is the HAMILTON page and people are allowed to write what they think freely. Where I choose to live and my views of a town I know like the back of my hand are two different things.

sallyf4

And yes Glen, Dan Tehan is as you described. Well put.

Well then Sally Hamilton wins hands down, you can also let the public know how long you and your family have lived in Hamilton i am sure they would love to know the answer.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-29/obesity-epidemic-community-based-solutions-key-to-success/11902898 Yes everything is fine if you bury your head in the sand. But if you identify issues and try to fix them, that's what generally attracts people to your town. Well done with the hard work in the above link and excellent improvement. Glossing over issues generally gets you nowhere. And I don't see how long anyone's family has lived anywhere stops them from forming a valid opinion.
