Napperby

"Quiet lifestyle with plenty of wildlife"

Napperby township is a small area nestled beneath the Flinders Ranges with great views of Spencer Gulf. All around are farms, hobby farms and rural living blocks of land, all of which are no smaller than 5 acres. The township has a Primary School (with swimming pool), a large play park with toilets, barbecues, town water and plenty of shade. There are also school buses which run from Napperby into the various schools in Port Pirie. The only down side is that there are no shops or services except for a public telephone.

Around the township up towards the ranges is the Old Scout Camp which is also part of Napperby Gorge. It's a national park with an easy track along the creek which gets a bit harder towards the waterfall. Going the other direction you are only minutes from Port Pirie and many beautiful beaches and fishing spots.

If you travel north you will come to Nelshaby Creek Reserve which is an excellent place for walking and also finding bush tucker. There are loads of quandong trees throughout the area. And if you keep going north for a few more minutes you will come to Telowie Gorge National Park. A stunning place to bushwalk and watch rare and endangered yellow-footed rock wallabies. Napperby is very close to nature.

My piece of land is just off Gulf View Road and has Napperby Creek running through it. My husband and I have owned it for over two years and have made some improvements to it. We would try to get there over the weekends to get away from it all. There are lots of really big, old river red gums lining the creek providing plenty of shelter for local wildlife. Through the area are many different species of parrots, plus owls, magpies, emus and the occasional kite. We also have kangaroos come through and loads of different kinds of lizards all through the land. The sunrises and sunsets are really beautiful and the views of the Flinders Ranges and Spencer Gulf are lovely. One problem is that it can be windy at times with the gully breezes, but they usually cool things down.

It is a very quiet area, great for retirees, families and couples wanting to start something really special in their life. A truly beautiful area to get away to, with friendly neighbours, but still very close to all the services you could possibly want or need.

Flinders ranges is semi arid, harsh yet beautiful. Several small areas in Flinders Ranges are protected as National Parks. There are many unique features here including gorges, ramparts and the dry creekbeds.

Rau Avenue

"Ahhh, peace and quiet"

Very quiet and leafy street. I have stayed at the cul de sac end and found it to be very quiet. Little traffic noise from main north road, you wouldn't know it was nearby.

The neighbours are friendly and quiet and like to maintain a community spirit in the street. Everyone looks out for each other, so it's a safe place to live. It's a great street if you have kids as it's walking distance to kindies, child care, primary schools and high schools and you can choose whether to go public or private with your kids' education.

It's also walking distance to public transport, shops and restaurants, so it's a convenient place to live. Also nearby are sporting venues so the kids can go and kick the footy or practice in the cricket nets. If you have a dog, there are plenty of places to walk him/her.

Overall, a nice quiet neighbourhood with everything I would want if I were to buy there.

Evanston Gardens

"An established and friendly area"

I have visited and stayed with relatives in Evanston many times and have found the area to be very friendly. With nice neighbours who keep their houses and gardens well maintained, everyone looks out for each other and helps out when they can.

It's an area that is family friendly, pet friendly and in a convenient location. Walking distance to kindies, child care centres, primary schools and high schools make it easy for parents to walk their children to and from school. Also being walking distance to public transport and shops is a bonus.

Overall, a quiet and caring community spirit is alive and well here.

Evanston is not Evanston Gardens. Evanston Gardens is a great place to live, mostly. The only downside is there are a large number of people renting, many from Housing SA. The bulk of the renters are fine, the have good community spirit and maintain their properties. Unfortunately a few are ferals who don't deserve to be there; some are foul-mouthed mutons, they don't maintain their properties and bring down the tone of the whole neighborhood.

King Street

"Walking distance from beach, central part of town, schools, very quiet, very friendly"

King Street is one street behind Main Street and is located in Solomontown. Not far from the beach (it is only two minutes walk) as well as being only a few minutes walk to the local kindy, Solomontown Primary School and John Pirie Secondary School. It is also walking distance to the main part of town where you will find the Post Office, Library, Council Offices, Service SA, various other services like the pool and TAFE, various shops and the Woolworths Mall.

This location currently has a mix of young families and retirees, so it makes for a very friendly neighbourhood. Housing in this part of Port Pirie is affordable (I can't speak for other parts of Pirie). Also, to listen for, is the singing swimmer. When the tide is right, you can hear him sing his lungs out as he swims off Solomontown Beach. He gets a bit quiet when he's a long way away, but you can always hear him coming (I think it's marvelous anyway!). Also nearby are deli's, cafes, pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets, so if you don't feel like cooking, there are plenty of places nearby for dinner.

There are school bus services operating from Solomontown Primary School which take students from there to other schools around Port Pirie, so if your child does not wish to change schools, they can take the bus instead. You will need to make prior arrangement through John Pirie Secondary School beforehand.

If you like sports, there is a soft ball training field nearby as are the football oval and cricket nets all in easy distance from King Street. So if you are active, there is plenty for you to do, and if you are inactive, there are always nice neighbours to talk to over the fence.

Most of the houses along this street are in good to reasonable condition, the street scape is pleasant, there is little traffic, little noise, some dogs along the street and a few cats, but they are pretty quiet as the owners seem to be responsible regarding their pets. Altogether a nice street to live on.
