Sinnamon Park

"Sinnamon Park - South West's hidden secret"

Sinnamon Park is located 12 km southwest of Brisbane. It is situated between the Centenary Highway and Seventeen Mile Rocks. Sinnamon Park was originally part of Seventeen Mile Rocks and was detached from that suburb in 1989.

The history that is outlined under Seventeen Mile rocks, which was farmed by the Sinnamon family for over 100 years.

The Sinnamon Family erected a Methodist church in 1880 and in 1977 the Wesley Central mission opened the Sinnamon Retirement Village. In the 80’s the Jennings Industries built the Sinnamon Park housing estate. From this the Sinnamon Park Progress Association was formed.

Sinnamon Park’s doubled during 1991-2004. The Windermere estate that is situated east of the Centenary bridge has the most recent and higher priced houses. A linear reserve flanks the river’s shoreline.

Sinnamon Park has a local shopping centre as well as DFO Jindalee and Mt Ommaney shopping centre that is just outside its boundary.

If you want to try the best breads and Austrian cuisine then you must try K&K Bakery and Coffee house on Oldfield Rd. Wolfgang the owner has a great store that so many people love to visit.

If you like Thai, then try Baan Pad Thai restaurant on Oldfield Rd Sinnamon Park. The food is superb - fresh tasting and always right on the mark. The service is very friendly too. Try the stir-fry duck with chilli and cashew nuts!

  • Big wide open spaces, lots of parks.
  • Close proximity to the city

Agree with your sentiments Steven, however the "no train service" is a bit misleading. People who live on the southern side of Sinnamon Park have an easy walk or a direct bus (451) to Darra rail station. When I worked in the city it was pleasant 20 min walk each day through parkland to the station.

Mount Ommaney

"Mt Ommaney a hidden gem in the centenary suburbs."

Mount Ommaney was developed as part of the Centenary Project in 1959. It, along with surrounding suburbs such as Jindalee are known as the Centenary Suburbs. Mount Ommaney is located on the southern side of the Brisbane River and the majority of the properties are located on the hill itself. A relatively large section of Mount Ommaney is forest that is protected by the Brisbane City Council and will not be developed, this includes the area next to the river that was once a stone quarry. Many of the lots in Mount Ommaney are around or in excess of 1000 square metres. Mount Ommaney has one golf course/country club that offers dining overlooking the course and across to the hill and creek. The Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre is located on the outskirts of the suburb and is opposite to the Mount Ommaney Hotel. Homes on the top of the hill generally have great views either to the CBD of Brisbane, the suburbs, the countryside on the opposite side of the river or the river itself, Theses houses tend to be very expensive as spare residential land is rare in Mount Ommaney.

Not great for

  • Lots of traffic around the shopping centre
