Thornton Court

"Urban hideaway."

Very quiet, well maintained area, neighbors are respectful and quite well off, so no riffraff and young "Whippersnappers" the lawns and gardens are well manicured, not a blade of grass out of place, Newspapers and letters are well tucked away in neat designer garden ornaments called "Letter boxes" the paths and roads are sterile enough to almost eat off, and in some areas near there, the roads are not made of bitumen, but they are actually paved, (yes with actual individual pavers).

The place is so clean and sterile the it feels like an open air hospital, Street sweepers clean and wash the road regularly, Residents will, given half a chance, amble around their front yards with household vacuum cleaners to make absolutely sure there is no chance that the lawn mower didnt miss a few blades of grass,

During Christmas season, the lights abound in the area, trying to out do one another, And there are no rusty wrecks called cars getting around there either, they must have the latest Mercedes or BMW to impress the underlings that cannot afford the pleasures of such exclusive motoring luxury,

And the best thing of all, in that area, During Hard waste season, They throw out the best stuff in the whole town, i mean its just amazing what they dont want anymore, its just awsome, i furnished my whole house from stuff they threw out on the nature strip, i didnt have to buy a thing, from knives and forks to right up to the tv, Such lovely awesomly nice people there, even left a Microwave out for me, AND it still works,

So, if you have lots of money!!!! please move to Sale, Oh, and if you have any spare household goods you dont need anymore, i will be needing some coffee mugs and a toaster soon,

Thanks!!!!

Great for

  • Good pickings during hard waste
  • No ferals!
  • Oh So Clean,

Not great for

  • Hard waste bargain hunters.
  • Silly eccentric reviewers, haha.
  • They missed a bump over there, on the road,

Ruff Street

"What can i say? FORGET IT!"

Long reputed as one of the WORST streets in Sale, Watch your kids like a hawk, Lock all your doors and windows at night and when you go out, Sleep with the light on and a baseball bat at your side,

To the powers that be,,,,,you told us as subscribers to be honest, when we do you remove our comments and ignore the problem

Its there, its real, fix it.

"Great, But do your homework,"

As a rule, I HATE living in town, i detest it with a passion, but due to health reasons i am left with little choice,

Dont get me wrong, Sale is a great place to live, i have been here for a number of years now and i have no intention of leaving anytime soon, I may still be here even after i pass on!!!!!!

If you want a particular item, and it is not here, it will be obtained for you in no time at all, some things here are cheaper than Ebay, so it pays to shop around,

There are a lot of streets here that are absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!! If you want Melbourne quality, but at a quarter of the price, LOOK HERE, 200-300K will buy you a very nice house, but i will warn you, the traffic here during the holiday season is Absolutely MENTAL, so watch out for that

I have found that MOST of the locals are willing to help you if need be,

BUT, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, if you are looking to buy of rent here, ask the locals where, DONT ask the real estate agents, they will tell you anything to get a sale, Door-knock the area that you are thinking of buying or renting, Scope out your potential neighbors,

Double check the street you are interested in, Some have quite a few undesirables who will defaecate on your front lawn without a second thought,

The unfortunate thing is that the local Police will treat you differently depending on where you live,

for example, if you live in Inglis,Brand,Hutchinson, streets, you be treated with respect and dignity,

If you live somewhere like Ruff, Ray, Picton, Rossetti, you will be treated like the scum of the earth, regardless of who you are,

If i could afford to sell my house and buy in one of the new housing estates, i would be gone in a flash,I try NOT to be racist or discriminatory, But its real difficult with the type of neighbors i have, I am tired of having a knife shoved in my face and racial taunts delivered by persons of original descent, not to mention the alcohol, We as subscribers of local voices are encouraged to be truthful when we offer our opinions, but if we are TOO truthful, our comments are removed and the problem ignored,

I am saying DO buy in Sale, its an awesome place to live, just do your homework,

Great for

  • Progressive and vibrant, lots of variety,
  • Too busy?escape to the great outdoors in minutes.
  • Want do you want or need? its here!

Not great for

  • Flat out busy shopping areas (Madness)
  • SOME streets should be bulldozed
  • Braindead, blindfolded drivers,

There certainly are areas in town that people don't find favourable. There is a great benefit to talking to locals to find out the area. It is like any town, there are great areas and some not so great.

Ararat

"First impessions are deceptive."

Ararat is a good place if you are only there to visit, There are a lot of people who pass through and think it is a great place, but, if you only try living there for a few years, Shocking employment, unless you want to be a prison guard, Left the place 7 years ago, had to break my neck to do so, once that place has you, you may never leave,

at least half of that place seems to be a dumping ground for the socially unacceptable,
be real careful where you buy in that town, Avoid the lower end of town, "The Other Side Of the Tracks" is not a place for the meek or feeble minded, You will be chewed up and spat out,
make sure you have a good psychiatrist, you will need it after a while, Oh, and keep your lawyers card handy,

When you are there next, go up to One Tree Hill at night,(if you are game enough) take a look at the way the street lights are arranged, see if you can spell out the word "HELL"

Great for

  • Looks good in rear view mirror
  • There will be a by-pass built soon,
  • Very forgettable, Easy to get through town

Not great for

  • Local Prison expanding
  • Stuff all personal privacy or space
  • Same people EVERY day,boring.

I guess it's like any place - you get out of it what you put in.

talbo9

Im guessing your trying to sell your house?, Good Luck,,and as far as getting out of it what one puts in?,,,Oh how you are mistaken!

Highonlife

I have to wonder at the unhappiness that drives you to make this comment a year after my post and suspect it has very little to do with the town and more do do with personal dissatisfaction with your own life. However, you've made your point and arguing against the opinions of others won;t change theirs.

If you are looking for an Awesome Little town,,Quiet and Really nice people!, Go have a Look at Apsley, Not far from the SA border, and still within striking distance of Horsham, (Fuel is cheaper in SA), Narcoorte is a strange place till you get used to it,,But a lot more there than Ararat,,,Less the Prison,,

talbo9

Highonlife, It has EVERYTHING to do with the town,, and the Morons that keep carrying on about how GOOD the place is,,Hence the comment a year after yours, and as far as ones life is concerned!?!?!,, it has improved insurmountably since leaving, The Quality and hence Longevity has increased, Leaving behind the poor excuse for a "Town" and its excessive population of Humanoid Scum has to be the Best life choice i have ever made, In Short,, i am VERY satisfied with ones life,,,and arguing against My personal opinion,,,Sadly for you,, wont change mine,,Besides this is a Public Forum,,If you dont like the variety of differing opinions,,dont post your thoughts publicly!

Highonlife

Maybe Ararat is a more pleasant place to live since you no longer reside here with your negativity and need to blame a place for your previous unhappiness. Incidentally, I'm not arguing against your opinion, which you are entitled to hold, I'm merely trying to bring balance to a baseless negative view. - such is my right in a public forum.

I'm always a little bit nervous about moving to the country as there does seem to be a darker side to it that can be quite worrying. Also I've read that people want to know everyones business and if you don't fit into the local culture then you're given a hard time. Unemployment, druggies, crooks, baddies, crazies .. some areas seem to attract more than other areas..

talbo9 - when you say the lower end of town, does that include the end of Barkly St where the overpass is going!

York St

"Very busy during the day and often dangerous!"

If you want the hustle and bustle like that of Melbourne, then York st is the place for you, If you enjoy the stupidity and impatience of motorists that not only live in Sale, but that of holiday makers that pass through, then come on down!

If you are a pedestrian, Keep your wits about you, People here have tunnel vision, they look directly in front of them, if they dont see you then you dont exist,

When the annual motorcycle ride goes through here to and from Phillip Island, forget about common sense and courtesy,

If you live here, you are treated like dirt by tourists, Buy a truck to drive here in Sale, they may see you at the roundabouts, if you are lucky they will give way to you.........

Great for

  • Easy to navigate through town, ,
  • Plenty of fuel stops
  • Easy to find,

Not great for

  • Too many idiots think they own the road
  • Speed cameras, Cops, Morons.
  • Only quiet at night, Bored Cops
