Is Victoria going to lose the Gran Prix?

I was speaking to a friend the other day, and he mentioned that Victoria was going to lose the Gran Prix?

Is there any truth to this? I personally think it is one of the best events we have!

I went to the Grand Prix in the early years, it was great. But if you are not into racing does it still continue to be great, years after. I don't care one way or the other. What about others.

I guess that if you lived in the area then it would be good to have it gone because of the noise.

Who knows?

But from what I heard, we are actually losing the gran prix in the next year or so?

Are there any facts about whether or not we are losing it definitely?

Night time racing would be excellent it would be cooler for both spectator and drivers and more people would go!

Melbourne has the GP until 2015. I was at Singapore for the first night F1 GP and it was amazing but probably not something Melbouren could do - the expense is immense!

Hey Brian, how was the noise in Singapore and what time was it on?

The first thing that comes to mind is that for Melbourne to have night time GP we could not have it too late into the night. People would complain too much about the noise. Was this a problem in Singapore?

People complained more about the street closures and the inconvenience of shutting down part of the cbd. Also the locals complained about ticket prices, whcih was ridiculous as by world standards they were so cheap.

While I'm a loyal F1 viewer; I don't think it'd be terrible if Melbourne was dropped from a race perspective. There are more interesting tracks in the calendar.

I've been to the Albert Park one a few times and honestly, I've gotten more out of watching the race on TV. At least then you actually *see* more of the race rather than watching mere flashes of colour go past on the sidelines!

You've got to know where to sit - general admission can be better than a grandstand seat.

I beg to differ, I've had General Admission tickets each time and scoured out different positions. I still maintain that watching it on TV is far better! Depends what interests you I guess; but I like to watch the different team strategies play out over the course of the race, which you only really get with the TV coverage. :)

I don't deny that actually going was an interesting experience in itself though. I just don't see any value in going each year.

The organisers signed a contract to keep the race at least until 2015 so it will be in Melbourne until then. Personally I loved the race more when it was in Adelaide, as the entire city embraced it, but now that I live in Melbourne its convenient for me. I've been to 18 Australian F1 Grand Prix's, and as long as there is one in Australia, I'll continue to go to it. I did look at going to Singapore last year, but circumstances didn't allow it, but want to go to an OS race, so Singapore or Malaysia seem to be the best options from Australia

I agree Adelaide was better than Melbourne. Singapore is an amazing experience, but I have heard that Malaysia is poor in comparison - no atmosphere, and the track is out in a wasteland near the airport, whereas the Singapore race in in the middle of the CBD and is so much fun.
