What Vic event would you hate to see get dumped...Grand Prix? Melb Cup?

Hi guys,

This started as a StateShout by cinnamon, so I thought I would make it a topic.

What event would you be most dissappointed to see leave Victoria? Melb Cup? Grand Prix?

My vote goes for the Spring Racing Carnival. It's a great event that leads up to summer, and is a fantastic social event. It would be sorely missed.

I know that it is not a huge event but I would not like to see the Myer post christmas sale leave Victoria......

No seriously, I like the fireworks on the Yarra at New Years Eve. I would like to see them put more into it by including some of the city buildings. The fireworks that went with the commonwealth games proved that we could put on a great show....

Fireworks on the Yarra? Not too sure we really can compete with Sydney NYE though.

Melbourne Grand Prix -we got so much international exposure from these events. Great having people overseas know about Melbourne instead of just knowing Sydney.

Would have to be the Grand Prix - When you are travelling overseas, and mention you are from Melbourne, everybody knows where that is now becuase of the Grand Prix. The amount of hidden $$ that this brings to the state of Victoria, far outways the amount that the Grand Prix board claims it looses. Think of all the hotel rooms that are booked, taxi fares, food and drink spent in and around the city. Even smaller things like extra jobs that get created around Grand Prix time, it all adds up.
