"Waterways - the home of Kiara"

Has a massive lake, but no oval.

Celebrity Kiara speaks fondly abt the oval in it.

"Resort living in Melbourne south east suburb"

Close to the beaches, good schools. Very nice park and lake at Waterways. Open space area, relax living, peaceful, great for families especially small kids, kids love to play outdoor and enjoy the nature (park, water, birds). Friendly neighbourhood.

"A gem in bayside!!"

Having lived in Waterways for 4 years, it cemented the fact that we made the right choice then about making this our home that we are proud to live in. What's not to like? It feels like you're living in greater part of Melbourne and not 40 mins away from CBD. There is a wonderful bird life, the lake and the great amenities at your doorstep as well as amazing schools around. This will continue to be the best suburb in Melbourne in many years to come!!

"A great gem"

I have lived here for more than 10 years. I have no intention of moving. Why would I? The lack of traffic, wonderful bird life, walking tracks at the front door, friendly neighbours, great sunrises and sunsets. Waterways is a suburb that will never fall to over development due to our planning guidelines and BC rules. There will never be apartment buildings or over crowding in Waterways. Waterways is an amazing suburb to live in.

"My ideal suburb!"

Having driven past Waterways for a few years on my daily commute, I always thought how nice it would be to live there! When I finally got the chance I snapped it up with both hands. I can honestly say that it is the best decision I have ever made. This suburb has everything I treasure including friendly neighbours, lots of parkland, walking tracks, many lakes, wildlife, peaceful and finally but most importantly, very quiet. While Waterways is only 30km from Melbourne and 3km from Mordialloc, it feels like you are out in the countryside. There are shopping options in every direction with Southlands, Parkmore, Dingley Village and Aspendale Gardens shopping centers very accessible. There is a bus service that goes through the suburb and a cafe on the lake if you want a coffee and snack. Outdoor activities are plentiful with a children's playground around the lake and fitness equipment being installed (incomplete at this point) and lots of walking and cycling tracks. But for me the best thing of all is that it is only a 5 to 10 minute drive to a host of Melbourne's best beaches (Chelsea, Edithvale, Aspendale, Mordialloc and Parkdale), and 20 minutes from the Mornington Peninsula. The only downside is the cost of living in the suburb. We not only pay our full council rates, but we also pay a body corporate fee for additional works that the council won't do. On dealings with the Kingston Council I find that they seem to ignore Waterways residents thinking that we have their own body corporate that can do it all and they don't have to bother. It was very disappointing they don't do much for us considering we don't get a discount on our actual council rates. Overall this is a great place to live and I'm glad I got in when I did.

"Peace and Quiet"

The first thing you notice about Waterways is how neat the suburb is. The second thing is the peace and quiet. There is lots of water with surrounding parkland. Its 30km from Melbourne but feels like 100km away. Even though I have driven past it many times, I never knew the extent of the suburb as it is hard to tell from Springvale Road.

"Open space and clean air, wow!"

This is Melbournes hidden gem! Quiet and friendly, just the way it should be with plenty of water and parkland. Close to beaches, shopping, schools and public transport. Lots of shopping being close to DFO, Parkdale and Southlands. What more could you want? Maybe quicker internet but that will be fixed with the arrival of the NBN. Prices here are sky rocketing and its very easy to see why.

"Lovely Place"

A total gem of a suburb hidden off the main roads. It's quiet and private but with an abundance of nature at your front door. Prices continue to climb as the suburb is landlocked, which is a good thing. New bypass roads should also reduce traffic nearby. Take a relaxing walk around the lakes and a coffee at the cafe. NBN to be installed within the year which is a huge bonus.

"Bird heaven"

The first thing you notice in the Waterways are the homes and gardens kept in top shelf condition , birds walking along the parklands ,black swans swimming in the lakes ,rabbits running free in the mornings and dusk.
Great place to live and walk my dog along the many routes in the estate without a doubt living with a lake in your backyard enjoying a bbq or spa is as good as it gets.
Close to shops , schools , beach , transport , work ect for an estate which is around ten years old values have soared and will continue to rise as the last vacant blocks of land are snapped up.
l have built five new homes and this by far is the best suburb l have lived in.

Hi CB3195, not rating all the options has no effect on the scoring. Only when you rate things negatively or positively does it affect the rating.

"Peace, quiet, lakes and parkland. Kakadu of the South"

As the title says, Waterways has it all. The suburb is 40% lakes, 10% parkland, 5 minutes from many beaches and is a nature lovers paradise.

It is nestled between Braeside Park and the Edithvale wetlands so the area bustles with wildlife. There are also around 20km of walking and cycling tracks to explore the entire area.

The waterfront Birdsnest Cafe is situated on the main lake and is an ideal place to enjoy a meal or coffee.

Waterways is a fantastic family environment and the lifestyle suits the outdoors types.

The downsides are the lack of public transport with the nearest trains being at Mordialloc or Aspendale stations. Buses travel up and down Springvale Road but the bus shelters are exposed to the elements. Governor Road can also be a traffic log jam so people tend to use Waterways as a 'rat run' at certain peak hour times of the day.

Update (2012):

A bus service was added to the estate and goes to Mordialloc station. This service is very well used.

Waterways is on a list of suburbs to get the NBN in 2012.

A new road was added (Bowen Parkway) which provides easy access to Aspendale Gardens shopping center.

A lot has changed in Waterways since I wrote the initial review and the place just keeps getting better.
